Abstract

Purpose – This study analyzes the relationship between work engagement, avoidance coping, and burnout among nurses. It specifically investigates the mediating role of avoidance coping in the pathway from positive work engagement to reduced burnout. Design/methodology/approach – A quantitative, explanatory cross-sectional design was used. Data were collected via questionnaires from 59 inpatient nurses at a private hospital in Surabaya and analyzed using the PLS-SEM method. Originality – This study clarifies the specific behavioural mechanism (avoidance coping) through which a positive psychological state protects nurses. This confirms that engagement prevents burnout through a dual pathway: directly, and indirectly by reducing the adoption of maladaptive coping strategies. Findings and Discussion – The results show that work engagement significantly and negatively predicts both burnout and the use of avoidance coping. Avoidance coping, in turn, was a significant positive predictor of burnout. The key finding is that avoidance coping significantly mediates the relationship between work engagement and burnout. This implies that engagement's protective effect is not just psychological but also behavioral. Conclusion – Work engagement prevents burnout through a dual pathway: it acts as a direct psychological shield and, indirectly, it reduces the adoption of maladaptive coping strategies.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to analyze the effect of job insecurity and job satisfaction on turnover intention among contract employees in the technology division of PT. XYZ. The research seeks to understand how perceived job uncertainty and levels of job satisfaction influence employees’ intention to leave the organization. Design/methodology/approach – This study used a quantitative survey of all 48 contract employees in the technology division of PT. XYZ. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) to examine the relationships between job insecurity, job satisfaction, and turnover intention. Originality -  This research offers new insights into turnover behavior among contract-based technology employees in Indonesia, a group often overlooked. Focusing on a project-driven tech division, it highlights the unique psychological and organizational challenges faced by contract workers. Findings and Discussion – The results show that job insecurity significantly increases turnover intention, especially threats to job aspects, while job satisfaction reduces it, with salary as the key factor. Short-term contracts and limited career growth raise employees’ desire to leave, whereas fair pay and recognition help lessen it. Conclusion – The study concludes that clearer contract renewal, better career development, and fair compensation can reduce turnover intention among contract employees. Open communication between management and staff is also essential to strengthen trust, job satisfaction, and loyalty.

Abstract

Purpose –  The increasingly competitive world of work requires organizations to have dynamic and sustainable human resources. The population and sample of this study consisted of all 50 outsourced employees in the production division of PT XYZ. The results revealed that workload has a negative and significant effect on employee job satisfaction, whereas work discipline has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction. These findings highlight that maintaining a balance in workload and consistently applying discipline are crucial factors in maximizing employee job satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach – This study used a quantitative approach to examine the effects of workload and work discipline on the job satisfaction of 50 outsourced employees in the production division of PT XYZ. Total sampling was applied, and data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and literature review. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) to assess the validity, reliability, and significance of relationships between variables. This approach provides insights into the impact of workload and work discipline on employee job satisfaction and offers practical implications for human resource management. Originality - This study is original in examining the combined effects of workload and work discipline on the job satisfaction of outsourced employees at PT XYZ, providing practical insights for human resource management. Findings and Discussion – The findings of this study reveal that workload negatively affects the job satisfaction of outsourced employees at PT XYZ, particularly when excessive time demands lead to fatigue and stress. In contrast, work discipline positively influences job satisfaction, as higher compliance with rules and procedures enhances employees’ sense of responsibility, motivation, and engagement. The discussion emphasizes that balancing workload and promoting consistent work discipline are essential for creating a productive, orderly, and supportive work environment. These results provide practical implications for human resource management, highlighting the need for effective task distribution, realistic scheduling, and supervisory oversight to optimize employee satisfaction and performance. Conclusion –  In conclusion, workload negatively affects job satisfaction, while work discipline has a positive impact. Balancing workload and promoting consistent discipline are essential for enhancing employee satisfaction, motivation, and overall performance.

Abstract

Purpose – This research assesses bankruptcy predictions derived from various models to identify the most accurate approach, especially for real estate companies that are publicly traded and listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange between 2020 and 2023. It also seeks to examine the bankruptcy tendencies of each chosen company, as indicated by the respective models. Design/methodology/approach – Evaluating a company's financial stability necessitates a comprehensive analysis employing models such as the Altman, Springate, Taffler, and Zmijewski Z-score to forecast the potential hazards of future insolvency. Originality – This research assesses the bankruptcy prognosis scores of real estate firms by comparing them to actual outcomes, as demonstrated by the net losses incurred between 2020 and 2023. To select the model exhibiting the highest accuracy and the lowest error rates, Type I and Type II error analyses are conducted. Findings and Discussion – Taffler's model predicts real estate company bankruptcy best, followed by Altman Z-Score and Zmijewski, and Springate's least accurately. It recommends that enterprises continuously assess financial performance, refrain from incurring excessive debt, maintain adequate current assets to fulfill liabilities, and improve profit margins. Conclusion – This study recommends that companies perform regular financial assessments, limit reliance on debt to finance assets, maintain sufficient current assets to cover liabilities, and work on improving profit margins.

Abstract

Purpose - Indonesia's vulnerability to disasters necessitates a more structured and competency-based approach to emergency response. This study investigates the application of the ASEAN Qualifications Reference Framework (AQRF) in occupational mapping for disaster management in three high-risk provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and Padang. Design/methodology/approach - Using the Rapid Assessment Process (RAP), qualitative data were collected through interviews, document analysis, and field observations. The data were analyzed using the four functional areas of disaster management defined in the AQRF: preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. Originality -  his paper contributes to the growing discourse on professionalizing disaster response through structured competency frameworks. It offers localized insights for implementing regional frameworks like AQRF in decentralized disaster governance settings. Findings and Discussion - The study identifies significant institutional gaps in disaster workforce planning, particularly the absence of defined occupational roles and certified competencies. AQRF-based occupational mapping provides a viable model to enhance clarity, coordination, and capacity development in local disaster management agencies. Conclusion - AQRF-based occupational mapping holds significant potential to improve disaster management outcomes in Indonesia’s most vulnerable provinces. Integrating this framework into local policies and training systems can lead to more resilient, responsive, and professionally managed emergency response structures.
