Abstract

This research aimed to determinet he impac to fusing Visual Imagery strategies in improving the students' writing skils. The subjects of this research were the students of class X MA. Laboratory. UINSU Medan for the 2020/2021 academic year, which consists of 40 students. This research was conducted using a class room action research using two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, acting,  observing, and reflecting. The data obtained through quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were obtained from tests which included pre-test, post-test I, and post-test I. Meanwhile, the qualitatived at a were obtained from interview sand observation sheets. The results of the data analysis showed that the rewasan  improvement son student writing achievements frome achcycle. This can be seen fromthe mean score of students in the pre-test 50.85 increased to 69.4 in the post-test I an dincreased to 79.3 in the post-test I. In the pre-test, 10% (4 of 40 students) scored >75. In the post-test I the rewere 55% (22 of 44 students) who scored >75. In the second post-test, the rewere 90% (36 of 40 students) whogeta value>75. To test the hypothesis using thet-test formula, the results of thet-test obtainedt  observation (8.60) >t table (1.684). Thus, the alternative hypothesis(Hα) can be accepted. Based on the sefindings, the alternative hypothesis (Hα) states that the use of visual imagery strategies can improve students' ability to writer ecount text. Keywords: Visual Imagery Strategy, Writing, Recount Text, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether the whole brain teaching strategy has a significant difference in students' simple present tense mastery between students who taught by whole brain teaching strategy and those who taught by using the conventional strategy at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 5 Takengon. This research uses the quantitative research method (quasi-experimental research). The population of this research was the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 5 Takengon. There were four classes in the eighth grade and the researcher took two classes for the sample. There were 16 students for the experimental class and there were also 16 students for the control class. The instrument for collecting the data in this research was tested in the multiple-choice form. Before conducting the treatment, the researcher gave a pre-test and a post-test. In treatment, students in the experimental class were taught by using the whole brain teaching strategy and students in the control class were taught by lecture or conventional strategy. The result of this study shows that Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected. So, it can be concluded that there is no significant difference in students' simple present tense mastery between students who taught by the whole-brain teaching strategy and the conventional strategy at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 5 Takengon. Keywords: Whole Brain Teaching Strategy, Conventional Strategy, Simple Present Tense Master

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the significant effect of the PLEASE (Pick-List-Evaluate-Activate-Supply-End) Strategy on student achievement in writing descriftive text in class VII Mts Nurul Hakim Tembung. This research used quantitative research with experimental design. The implementation was in class VII Mts Nurul Hakim Tembung. The researcher took 64 students consisting of 32 students for the experimental class and 32 students for the control class. In collecting the data, the researcher used test in essay test.. The researcher used two tests, the pre-test was given before the treatment and the post-test was given after the treatment in the learning process. Then the researchers analyzed the data using statistical formulas and Microsoft Excel 2010 with a significance level of 0.05. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that the value of tobserved was higher than the ttable. This can be seen from the tobserved (4.473)> t table (1.6) at the significance level of 0.05 and degrees of freedom (df) 62.It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It can be concluded that the PLEASE (Pick-List-Evaluate-Activate-Supply-End) strategy has significant effect on students’ writing achievement in descriftive text of seventh grade students at Mts Nurul Hakim Tembung. This is related to the results of observations which show that students are more interested and motivated in attending classes and enthusiastic during the teaching and learning process so that their descriptive writing achievement increases. Keyword: PLEASE starategy, Students’achievement , writing descriptive text

Abstract

The research was conducted to find out the effectiveness of using scattergories board game in teaching vocabulary which was observed from the students’ at seventh grade of Mts Pondok Pesantren Ulumul Qur’an Medan. The method used was quantitative research method by using quasi experimental research. The population of this research was seventh grade of Mts Pondok Pesantren Ulumul Qur’an Medan. In taking the sample of the research, the researcher used saturated sampling which took all of the students’ in seventh grade. The classes divided into experimental class and control class. There were 23 students’ experimental class and 22 students’ in control class. In experimental class was taught by using Scattergories board game and in control class was taught by using expository method. In experimental class the increase of the mean score was 21.96 and in control class the increase of the mean score was 14.97. Based on the T-test result by using SPSS V.22 in experimental class and control class, it was found that Sig. score was 0.001. It means that the Sig. core was smaller than 0.005 (0.000 < 0.05). It can be conclude that there were significant differences between experimental class and control class. Therefore there was effectiveness of using Scattergories Board Game in teaching vocabulary at seventh grade of Mts Pondok Pesantren Ulumul Qur’an Medan. Keywords: Vocabulary, Students, Scattergories Board Game

Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out: 1) the kinds of error made by EFL student’s reflective journal writing on online blogging, 2) the process that the EFL student did in producing errors, 3) the causes of error happened on EFL student's reflective journal writing. This study was categorized into a qualitative content analysis. The data of this study were 10 reflective journal writings of EFL student on her blogging account and the data source was one of the EFL students of State Islamic University of North Sumatera. The data were observed by purposive sampling. Thus for the results of this study, the researcher found five kinds of errors that appeared on EFL student’s reflective journal writing on her online blogging. They were; error in time, omission error, insertion error, part of speech error and other errors. The errors happened unconsciously, the EFL student made errors by eliminating, adding some unnecessary word and disordering some words in arranging sentence. There were several factors behind the occurrence of errors, namely Interlingua transfer, intralingua transfer, lack of vocabulary, and the use of inappropriate translate techniques. Keywords: Error Analysis, Reflective Journal, Online Blogging, and Surface Strategy Taxonomy

Abstract

This study was aimed to find out improving students’ vocabulary mastery by using Fly Swatter Game at Mts Hifzil Qur’an Medan. The study was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted into two cycles of action and consisted of four meetings for each cycle. The procedures of the research were planning, action, observation, and reflection. The sample of the research were the first grade of Mts Hifzil Qur’an Medan chosen by saturation sampling. Overall, the total number of the sample was 30 students consisting of all boys.Furthermore, the techniques of collecting the data were conducted by giving test, interviewing the students and the English teacher, observing the teaching and learning process, diary notes and documentation. The instruments used in this research were observation sheet, interview guidelines, diary notes and test. In analyzing the data, the researcher analyzed the quantitative data by using analytic scoring rubric and then comparing the mean score of the students’ writing scores.Meanwhile, the qualitative data were analyzed by making qualitative descriptions by Miles. The result of this research showed that the students’ vocabulary mastery especially in adjective could be improved through the use of Fly Swatter Game. The result of this research showed that there was improving of students’ vocabulary. The mean of pre-test was 47,80. The mean of post test 1 was 65,37. the mean of post-test 2 was 77,23. It indicated that the scores and the mean in second cycle were better than the first cycle. In other words, the students’ are more interest and motivate in vocabulary mastery during teaching and learning process. The students could pronounced the words correctly. Using Fly Swatter Game, the students were eager to study English. By using Fly Swatter Game the students could memorize and understand certain words. Key words: Fly Swatter Game, Vocabulary Mastery

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the types of error in using simple present tense in writing descriptive that made by eight grade students of MTsN 2 Deli Serdang, to identify the cause of students make error in using simple present tense in writing descriptive text at MTsN 2 Deli Sedang. This research is qualitative research. The object of research was the eight grade students of MTsN 2 Deli Serdang. The technique of colleting the data are test and questionnaire. The researcher use the technique of analyzing the data from James and Brown. The total of result from students’errors are 49 errors. Then, the students make error in omission are 21 students’ (42,85%), addition 11 students’ (22,44%), misformation 15 students’ (30,61%), and misordering 2 students’ (4,08%). For result of questionnaire the students’ get cause from context of learning, so to minimize he error outcome in simple present tense, the researcher suggest that the teacher should give the explanation how to write a descriptive text to be a good sentence and also give more examples to the students because more example can make the students understand about writing descriptive text. Keywords: descriptive tex, writing, students, present tense

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the effect of using nature animal documentary video on students’ ability in Learning Vocabulary at tenth grade students of Mas Darul Qura’an Amplas. In this research, the researcher use the quantitative research with the a quasi-exprimental design.The sample of the research was 50 students. There are 25 students from MIA-2 as exprimental class and there are 25 students from IIS-1 as control class. The writer teach the experimental group by using nature animal documentary video and the control class without using nature animal documentary video. In control class, the researcher used the media ppt. The result of the research was significant with the average scores of exprimental class were 55,6 for the pre-test and 81 for the post-test, then the average scores for the control class were 53,4 for the pre-test and 74,8 for the post-test. The researcher found that the mean scores in the exprimental class was higher than the control class scores (81> 74,8). The t-test results also shows that t-observed (2,8) was higher than t- table at a significance level of 5% (0,05) with 48 degrees of freedom of 2,063. The result of the calculation showed that the statistic data of both showed that t-observed was higher than t-table (2,8 > 2,063 p = 0.05). It means that Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The calculation was showed that there is a significant effect of using animal documentary video on student’s ability in learning vocabulary. Keywords : Vocabulary, Student’s Ability and Nature Animal Documentary Video.

Abstract

This research focused on discussing about the effect of using partner reading strategy as a new strategy toward students’ reading fluency in SMP N 2 Batang Angkola. In this case, the research method was quantitative research by using experimental method. the population of the research is the seven grade students’ in SMP N 2 Batang Angkola, the population of this research is the second year of the 7th grade students’ in SMP N 2 Batang Angkola, the sample was taken by using cluster technique. To take the control class and the experimental class. The instrument of this research is using reading narrative text, researcher give a pre-oral test and post- oral test to measuaring the student fluency in reading text. After analyzed the data used statistic calculation the researcher found that coeficient of t0bservation = 8.45 and the df (degree of fredom) is 36 and 36 in ttable at the level of significant of 5% is 2.03 and level significant of 1% is 2.72, so it can be write that 2.03<8.45>2.72 . So the result of this research showed that there is a significance effect of partner reading strategy toward student’s reading fluency. The seven grade students’ in SMP N 2 Batang Angkola Reading ability is increassing after using partner reading strategy. Keywords : Partner Reading Strategy, Reading Fluency

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out students’ perspective of Simon Says game for practicing their listening class. The subject of this research was grade VIII-3 students at MTsS Madinatussalam in 2020 academic year. This research of this study was conducted by using qualitative research. The data used in this research such as; questionnaire, interview sheet and photography evidence. The questionnaire in this research consists of six questions that related to Students’ perspective of Simon Says game for practicing their listening. The researcher distributed questionnaire for twenty five students in grade VIII-3 of MTsS Madinatussalam’s students. The researcher also did interview for some students. The researcher gives six questions too in interview session to students that still related to students’ perspectives of Simon Says game for practicing their listening. The result of this research showed that almost all students have positive perspectives in Simon says game for practicing their listening. They agree that Simon Says game makes them easier to practice their listening in a fun way. They also agree that Simon says game can make their class atmospheres’ be active. They said they are being attractive while playing this game for listening practice class.Keywords: Simon Says game, Students’ Perspective, Listening Practice
