Abstract

This research was conducted to know and proving that The Advertisement Billboard can improve students’ translation mastery in learning English for a month researching. The subjects of this research were seventh grade students of SMK Tritech Informatika Medan in academic year of 2020/2021 that consisted of 20 students. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. This research was used pre-test and post-test data, interview sheet, observation sheet, diary notes, and documentation.The result of this research showed that there was an improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery. It could be seen by the mean of the pre-test was 56, the mean of the first cycle was 69.4, and the mean of second cycle was 83.6, these results mean showed that the mean in second cycle were better than the first cycle. The percentage of students who got point > 70 up also grew up. In the pre-test, there was nobody got point 70 up (0%). In the post-test I of cycle I, the result is good enough because the students who got point > 70 up there were 8 students (40%). It means that there was a good improvement about 23.92%. In the post-test II of cycle II, students who got point 70 up were 20 students (100%) and the improving was about 25.36%. For the total score of students’ improvement from pre-test to post-test of cycle II was 49.28%. In other words, the students’ vocabulary mastery has improved from the first meeting to the next one. For the hypothesis testing, it was used t-test formula from the computation, it could be seen that coefficient of t-table (2.09) with fact level α = 0.05 was 8.04 in the coefficient of t- observation (8.04) > t-table (2.09). Thus, alternative hypothesis (Ha) stating that The Advertisement Billboard as a media improved students’ translation mastery can be accepted and could make the class become alive, active and fun properly. Keyword: Advertisement Billboard, Students’ Translation Mastery

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the significant effect of metacognitive strategies on grammar mastery of class XI students, especially in if conditional sentences . Type of research is using the method of research quantitative with the design of experiments . Researchers took data from the MADRASAH ALIYAH YPP RIDHO ALLAH, KAMPUNG PERLABIAN. The population in class XI is 40 students , and there are 2 classes . Each class has 20 students . The entire amount of the population of the sample in the study of this . In this study, there were 2 classes, namely the experimental class (XI-A) and the control class (XI-B) . Researchers gave a pretest before applying treatment and posttest after treatment. Then the researchers analyzed the data of the use of the formula statistic and Microsoft Excel with a level of significance 0 , 05 . Then the researcher gets the data from the study , namely The result is t count (8.55)> t table (1.69) which means that Ha is accepted while Ho is rejected. These results were obtained from the pretest and posttest scores of the students from the experimental class and the control class, where the posttest scores in the experimental class were higher than the control class . Abstract

This research was aimed to find out whether the students’ ability in English grammar taught by dice game is better than without dice game. The method of this research was quantitative method with the experimental research. The population of this research was the eight grade student which is distributed into two classes totally 60 students. There were 30 students in experimental class and there were 30 students in the control class. The finding of this research shows that teaching English Grammar by using dice game is effective. The mean of experimental class from pre-test was 50.33 and post-test was 67.17. It was also proved by tobserved (9.431) which is higher than ttable (1.671) in degree significance 5%. Furthermore, the hypothesis test that sign 2-tailed (p) was 0.00 while alpha (α) was 0.05 (0.00 < 0.005. It means that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, the students’ English grammar taught by dice game is better than without taught by dice game.

Abstract

The study was intended to understand the effect of the Outdoor Activity approach on the writing capacity of the students observed and evaluated by seven-grade students at SMP IT Suara Da'I Muda Langkat. Experimental study design was the approach used. The population in this study was seven grade of the Students of SMP IT SuaraDa'I Muda Langkat. The researcher took all of the population of the seven grades, there are two classes and divided them as experimental and control class while taking the sample of this study. In the experiment, there were 25 students and 25 students in control class. The researcher taught in the experimental class using the Outdoor Activity technique and thye control class taught using the Lecturing approach. The investigator used pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The experimental class increased from 56,40 to 75,80 by 19,4 points, while the control class increased from 49,60 to 65,60 by 16 points. The researchers found that the value of Sig was determined by using SPSS V22 in the post-test of the experiment and control class.It was 0,000 in the T-Test (2tailed). It was lower than 0,05 (0,000<,0.05), so there was a substantial distinction between the class of the experiment and the class of the monitor. In other words, by using the Outdoor Activity approach, the achievement of the students in writing is more successful than the method of lecturing.

Abstract

This research was aimed at implementing diary writing as a medium to improve the writing skills of the eighth grade of MTs Pondok Pesantren Ulumul Qur’an Medan in the academic year of 2020/2021. This research was an action research study. The participants of this research were 22 students of grade VIII, the English teacher, and the collaborator. This research used two types of data, namely qualitative data and quantitative data. The qualitative data were obtained through an interview with the English teacher and the students and observations during the teaching and learning process. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were in the form of the results of the students’ writing before the implementation of the actions (pre-test) and after the implementation of the actions (post-test). The results of the research showed that there were improvements on the students’ writing skills. The research uses two cycles, each cycle consist of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The result of this research shows that there is an improvement of the students’ writing skills in recount text. It can be seen from t-test calculation in cycle I shows that the score of pre-test 35.9 and the score of post-test is 57.72. Meanwhile, the cycle II shows that the score of pre-test is 57.72 and score of post-test is 83.86. This indicates that by applying of diary writing can improve the writing skills of the second grade students of MTs Pondok Pesantren Ulumul Qur’an Medan is accepted. Keywords: Diary Writing, Improve, Writing, Writing Skills, Recount Text.
