Abstract

This research aimed to find out there is correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and their reading comprehension students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang. The research methodology was quantitative research by using correlational method. The population of this research was eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang. The samples of this research were 30 students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang used simple random sampling. The instruments of this research students’ motivation questionnaire and reading comprehension test. After analyze the data used statistic calculation, the results of this research showed that there was positive significant correlation between the students’ motivation in learning English and their reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Lembah Melintang. Which rvalue = 0,963> rtable 5% = 0,361.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to identify the types of students error in using prepositional place in descriptive text that made by eight grade students of MTS Swasta Al-Jumhuriyah  Seirotan,   to   identify  the   cause  of  students   make  error  in  using prepositional place. That most of students did not pay attention about using prepositional correctly in sentence.This research is qualitative research. The object of research show there are four types error made by students, omission, addition, misordering, and misformation. Based on the data, the frequency of student’s error in using prepositional place is mostly occurred in prepositional in place in with 35 errors. The second is prepositional on with 14 errors. The third is prepositional place at with 12 errors.

Abstract

The objective of the research was expected to describe the use of Encantado Game in developing students’ speaking skills. The subject of the research were the seventh grade students of MTs Swasta Insan Cita in 2020/2021 academic year. The seventh grade students of MTS Swasta Insan Cita consisted of 38 students. This research applied by Classroom Action Research. The data of the research were qualitative data and quantitative data. The quantitative data were taken from the test (in the form of Pre-Test, Post test 1 and Post test 2) which given in the end of of every cycle. While qualitative data were taken from Interview, Observation sheet, and dairy notes. The objective of the research was to describe the use of encantado game in developing students speaking skills of the seventh grade students of MTs Swasta Insan Cita Medan in academic year 2020/2021. The showed that encantado games can developed students’ speaking skills of the seventh grade. It can be seen from the results of Pre-test, Post Test I and Post Test II. In Pre-test the result showed that the mean score of students speaking skills was 61,07 (the precentage was29 %, and 11 students who got successful), and Post test I can be seen that mean score of students speaking skills was 70,26 (the precentage was 50%, and 19 students who got successful), And the result of Post test II can be seen that mean score of students speaking skills was 70,84 (there was the precentage was 74 % and 28 students who got successful). And then the total number of seventh grade students of MTs Swasta Insan Cita was 38 students. In conclusion, students speaking skills was developed from Pre-test until Post Test II. Than it can indicates that using encantado game can develop students speaking skills.

Abstract

This research aimed to describe students’ anxiety in speaking English at tenth grade of MAS Raudhatul Akmal Batang Kuis. This study is intended to know the level of students’ anxiety and  figure out what factors that may contribute to students’ anxiety in speaking English. This research used qualitative method with case study approach. The data collected from the observation, questionnaire, and interview. The questionnaire was developed by Horwitz and consists of 33 items with 5 point Likert-Scale.  The result of this research showed that one student (5%) who experience anxious level, 11 students (61%) are in mildly anxious level,   and 6 students (34%) students have relaxed level. And there are some factors in anxiety, students feel anxious when they are speaking in front of the class, they felt uneasy because all the students pay attention to them, being laughed at by others, fear of making mistake, unclear explanation and lack of preparation.

Abstract

This study was aimed to obtain empirical evidence about the effect of the gallery walk strategy on students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraphs in the tenth grade of SMA Birem Bayeun Aceh in 2020/2021 academic year. This research used quantitative method and the research design used is a quasi-experimental design. The population of this study were all tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Birem Bayeun Aceh Timur. The sample technique used total sampling that consist of 47 students. The sample are divided into two groups: class X MIA1 as an experimental class consist of 24 students and X MIA2 as a control class consist of 23 students. The instrument of this research was written test. The results and the effect size of this study were obtained from data calculations using t-test with a significance level of (α) =0,05. The results showed that the post-tests’ mean score in the experimental class was 78,45 while in the control class it was 60,26. thus means the post-tests’ mean score in the experimental class is higher than the control class (78,45 > 60,26). Therefore, the statistical hypothesis test showed that the ρ-value of the post-test and the gained score is 0.000 < sig α 0,05. The effect size of this result is 1,53. It can be conclude that the alternatives hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It means that the gallery walk strategy was significant effect on the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph at SMA Negeri 2 Birem Bayeun Aceh Timur in academic year.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the improvement of students’ skills in writing narrative text by using the Dictation Dictogloss Method. This research was conducted by implementing the rules and steps of Classroom Action Research. The collected data in this research was analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative technique. The qualitative data was taken from observation sheet, interview, diary notes and documentations. The result of this research found that there was an improvement on students writing narrative skills by applying Dictation Dictogloss Method. It was supported by the increase mean of the score in every single meeting. The mean in pre-test was 40,67. The mean of post-test in cycle one was 65,6. The mean of post-test in cycle two was 70,17. This data indicated that students score was increased in every meeting. The percentage of students passed in every meeting was also improved. The data stated that in pre-test there were only two students passed (6,67%). In the post- test of cycle one there were fourteen students passed (46,67%). In the post-test of cycle two there were twenty students passed (66,67%). By the data gathered in  this  research,  it  can  be  concluded  that  students  were  more  engaged, motivated and interested in writing narrative text after the implementation of Dictation Dictogloss Method

Abstract

This research is aims to determine the ability of students in identifying independent and dependent clauses in sentences in the Darul Arqom Persantren, Tenth grade students of SMK Darul Arqom.  The population of this study was students of class X SMK-1 Darul Arqom, and by using total sampling, as many as 30 students were sampled in this study.  To get the data, the writer prepared a test made by the teacher. This test is about identifying independent and dependent clauses. After obtaining the data, the researcher analyzed the percentage of students' abilities and calculated the proficiency index using the formula recommended by Arikunto. The results showed that 87% or about 26 students were  considered  "capable"  and  13%  or  about  4  students  were  considered incapable. This means that students in the first school year of the 2019-2020 academic year at the Darul Arqom Muhammadiyah Private SMK-1 that students are able to identify independent and dependent clauses in sentences.
