Abstract

Gastropod community structure is a concept or study that studies the arrangement or composition of species in an ecosystem. Changes influence the structure of this gastropod community in terms of environmental factors such as temperature, salinity, substrate type, and organic matter content. Rupat District is geographically located in a cluster of islands directly adjacent to the Strait of Malacca, strongly influenced by coastal environmental conditions. Rupat sub-district has one of three tropical marine ecosystems, namely mangroves. This study aims to determine the structure of gastropod communities in mangrove forests in Ketapang Beach, Rupat District waters. The study was conducted in April 2023 using the technique of random sampling with a total of three stations. There are 8 (eight) species of gastropods found, with the species Cerithidea obtusa the dominant one. The abundance of gastropods is 130,000 ind/ha. The value of the diversity index (H') is 1.24, the uniformity index (E) is 0.33, and the dominance index value (C) is 0.40. The distribution pattern (Id) is grouping. The similarity index (Ss) of gastropods between each station in Ketapang Beach is almost the same type and has similarities that are classified as high category. Test results Oneway ANOVA < 0.05. The LSD (Least Significance Difference) test states that the abundance between stations I and III is significant, just as stations II and III are markedly different. The abundance between station I and station II does not differ markedly.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the weight of the bait and the effective depth for operating traps in Kesuma Village, Pangkalan Kuras District, and Pelalawan Regency. The bait weight is divided into 50 g, 100 g, and 150 g, while the depth is divided into 1 m and 5 m. This research was carried out in January 2022 at the Nilo River in Kesuma Village. The method used in this study was the experimental fishing method with a randomized group design factor. The test results of the analysis of variance on the number of catches show that there is an influence of bait, depth, and interaction between the two, or a value of Fcount > Ftable. The test results of the analysis of variance on catch weight showed that there was an effect of bait and depth because the value of Fcount > Ftable, while the interaction of bait and depth had a value of Fcount < Ftable, so there was no interaction effect on catch weight. Based on the results of the Least Significant Difference (LSD) further test, it is known that the effective weight of oil palm bait to get a larger number of catches is 150 g at a depth of 5 m, while to get heavier catches, the trap will be effective at a depth of 1 m with a bait weight of 150 g.

Abstract

Gill net catches are one of fishermen's dominant fishing gear at UPT Dumai City Fishing Port. Gill net catches are easy to operate, have a low price, and are durable. This research was conducted in July-August at UPT Port of Fisheries, Riau Province. This study aimed to determine differences in gill net catches based on different mesh sizes. The method used is the survey method. The catch of gill nets by type with a mesh size of 2 inches is 25 fish species. Based on the weight and number of individual fish, it was dominated by lomek (Harpodon sp), namely 1,359.5 kg or 21.5% and 16,314 individuals or 27.18%. The catch in the 3-inch mesh size was 23 species of fish. The percentage of catches based on weight dominated by senangin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) was 30.38% (1,353.5 kg), and based on the number of individuals dominated by pomfret of 18.72% (4,534 individuals). The main catches in gill nets at UPT Dumai are lomek (Harpodon sp), senangin (Polynemus sp), pomfret (Bramidae sp) and machete (Chirocentrus sp). The primary and bycatch yields for the 2-inch mesh were 51.58% and 42.42%, while the 3-inch mesh sizes were 57.99% and 42.01%.

Abstract

This research was conducted in February 2023 at Teluk Lancar Village, Bantan District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province, to know fishermen's techniques in carrying out fishing activities using gill nets with 1 GT boats and how the business feasibility of fishermen using gill nets with boats 1 GT using the survey method. The results showed that the fishermen's technique of operating gill nets in Teluk Lancar Village measured the water's depth; after that, the net was used and thrown to the right of the ship while moving backward (setting). Furthermore, within 1 or 2 hours, the crew lifted the nets in the water onto the ship and moved forward. Fishermen's investment in business activities is IDR 27,600,000.00. The total costs incurred in fishing business activities amount to IDR 92,190,000.00/year, the income received by fishermen is IDR 113,352,000.00/year, the revenue that fishermen have obtained is IDR 21,162,000.00/year, the results of calculating business feasibility based on the formula Revenue Cost of Ratio (R/C), Payback Period of Capital (PPC), and Financial Rate of Return (FRR) this business is feasible to continue and also develop.

Abstract

Nannochloropsis sp is a phytoplankton often used in marine fish hatchery activities as feed for the mass production of rotifers, and its availability is very much needed for rearing marine fish larvae. This activity aims to study pure culture techniques for Nannochloropsis sp on a laboratory scale. The method used is a literature study method and a direct practical method regarding Nannochloropsis sp phytoplankton culture techniques laboratory scale and conducted interviews with employees at the BPBL Batam Phytoplankton Live Food Production Unit Laboratory. Based on observations, it was found that the peak growth or optimum cell density of Nannochloropsis sp. occurred on the sixth day in a 1000 mL Erlenmeyer, namely 60.95 - 62.10 million cells/mL with an initial density of 10.15 - 10.55 million cells/mL and in a 2000 mL Erlenmeyer, namely 58.75 - 60, 25 million cells/mL with an initial density of 8.25 – 8.45 million cells/mL.
