Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of perceptions of school environment and discipline jointly towards English learning achievement, the effect of perceptions of school environment towards English learning achievement, the effect of discipline towards English learning achievement at Private Vocational High Schools in Kabupaten Tangerang. The research method used in this study is the survey method. Sample of 47 students was selected randomly from all private vocational students in Kabupaten Tangerang. Based on data analysis, it can be concluded that: 1) The results of the first hypothesis testing concluded that there was a significant effect of perception of school environment and discipline jointly towards English learning achievement at private vocational high schools in Kabupaten Tangerang. This is proved by the value of sig. 0,000 <0.05 and Fh = 35,702. 2) The results of the second hypothesis testing concluded that there was a significant effect of perceptions of  school environment towards English learning achievement at private vocational high school in Kabupaten Tangerang. This is proved by the value of Sig. 0,000 <0.05 and th = 5,750. 3) The results of the third hypothesis testing concluded there was a significant effect of discipline towards English learning achievement at private vocational high schools in Kabupaten Tangerang. This is proved by the value of Sig. 0,000 <0.05 and th = 4,901.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find, to describe and to interpret the use of past verbs and conjunctions in recount texts, written by students of senior high school in Jakarta. The population in this research was the students of grade X at those two schools, meanwhile, the number of the population consists of 1400 students. Thus, the sample of the research was 10% from the population from which 140 students was taken. The method used in this recount texts. The result of this research is: first, Students’ mastery in using past verbs in writing recount texts is quite good; even though, there were some mistakes such as generalization; for instance, adding -ed ending for irregular verbs and using past verbs after prepositions; second, students’ mastery in using conjunctions was good and students could apply them in their writing correctly.Keywords: simple past tense; conjunction; recount text; foreign language writing

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to examine the Theme and Moral Values in "Closer Than Veins" by Outlandish. It is a band that originated in Denmark with Hip hop/R&B. The results of this study are to provide insight to readers about the contents of the songs, both themes and moral messages. This research is a qualitative research, where the Theme and Moral Values as independent variable while “Closer Than Veins" as dependent variable. 1). Themes are social problems 38%, moral implication 25%, Coming of age 25%, The complexity of human relationship 12%, The struggle for human dignity 6%, The truth of human nature 0%, A moral or philosophical riddle 0%. 2). Moral values are commitment to something greater than oneself 56%, while the other moral values are self-respect but humanity 25%, self-discipline and acceptance of personal responsibility 19%, respect and caring for others, caring for other living things and environment 0%.Key Words: Theme, Moral values, Song.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to find out the use of figurative languages, thedominant one, and the moral values in the selected poems of William Shakespeare. Thisresearch uses a qualitative descriptive method. The results obtained include: there are 14 kinds of figurative language used in the selected poems, they are metaphor, simile, symbol, personification, litotes, hyperbole, metonymy, synecdoche, allusion, alliteration,repetition, assonance, parallelism, and paradox. The dominant of figurative language used in the selected poems is a metaphor. There are five moral values, such as appreciation, joy, love, honesty, and loyalty.Keywords: literature; figurative language; moral value; poetry

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research is to find out character and moral value in the novel. The method that is used in the research is qualitative that aims to describe the character and moral value in the novel “Les Miserables”. The writer did several steps of extracting the data through reading a whole book carefully, categorizing the characters and kinds of moral values, making table based on the specifications of character and moral value. The findings reveal that there are several characters and moral values presented explicity themselves. This novel has two objectives: to explain about characters in the novel and  analyze about moral value in the novel. 1) One of characters that is more dominant is lover. The value of lover reaches 18.5 % because this novel shows more about love and compassion. 2) Moral values in “Les Miserables”, there are four types of moral value such as love and sincerity, forgiveness, sacrifice, and justice/injustice. Love and sincerity is more dominant than the other elements. The value for love and sincerity reach 42% because it shows more about love and sincerity. Key words: Character, Moral value, Novel.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a kind of survey and aims to find out and analyze empirically the effects of student’s perception on teacher performance and learning motivation towards student’s achievement in English subject. The object population of this research is private junior high students in Indramayu.  The sample was gained through simple random sampling. The collection of the data is done by questionnaire for both independent variables and by teachers’ file mid-term test for dependent variable. The gained data was analyzed by using correlation technique and multiple regressions. The result of this research is: 1) There are any significant effects of students perception on teacher performance and learning motivation jointly towards students’ achievement in English subject.  It is proved by Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05 and Fo = 49.077; 2) There is a significant effect of students’ perception on teacher performance towards students’ achievement in English subject.  It is proved by Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05 and to = 5.009; 3) There is a significant effect of learning motivation towards students’ achievement in English subject.  It is proved by and Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05 and to = 6.773.  It means that the students’ achievement in English subject is sufficient influenced by students’ perception on teacher performance and learning motivation.Key Words: Students’ Perception; Teacher Performance; Learning Motivation; Students Achievement.

Abstract

The aim of this research are to find: 1) The effects of Reading Habit and Grammar Mastery jointly Towards Student’s Reading Comprehension. 2) The Effects of Reading Habit Towards Student’s Reading Comprehension. 3) TheEffects of Grammar Mastery Towards Student’s Reading Comprehension. The method used is survey method. The instruments were used multiple choice and questioner. Total samples of this research followed by 75 students with a cluster simple random technique. The result showed: 1)There are significant effects of reading habit and grammar mastery jointly towards the student’s reading comprehension. This is proved by the value of sig.0.000<0.05 and Fobserved=52.564. 2) There is a significant effect of reading habit towards student’s reading comprehension. This is proved by the This is proved by the value of sig.0.000<0.05 and tobserved=7.620. 3)There is significant effect of the grammar mastery towards student’s reading comprehension significantly. Abstract

Abstract: This study was conducted to analyze the coherence and unity of the paragraphs written by students in their descriptive text. The method of the study was descriptive analysis by using content analysis. The result of the research stated that: (1) the students’ writings are coherent. It could be seen in pronoun, anaphora, cataphora, repetition key noun, transition signal, and logical order are well organized. (2) the texts are not unified. They were able to state a clear topic discussion in the first sentence but couldn’t maintain the topic in all of the supporting sentences. They were lack of related supporting details in discussing the topic of the paragraph. The common errors made by the students are from the inconsistent topic, not logical order sentences, redundant sentences, and unrelated sentences. It can be concluded that the students were success to make coherent paragraphs, but they were failed to make unified paragraphs.Keywords: coherence; unity; students’ writing Descriptive text.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to know the use of simple past tense verb and personal pronoun in writing recount text. The method of this research is Dulay’s Surface Strategy Taxonomy. The result of the classification was calculated by the frequency and the percentage of each error: 1) The error of simple Past Tense Verb is 247which consist of, the lowest is 14 errors or 5,6% % for Misordering, 18 errors or 38,2 % for addition, 59 errors or 23,8% for omission and The highest 156 errors or 63,1% for Misinformation. 2) The error of using Pronouns in writing recount text the writer found the total error is 17. The highest error is misordering which consists of 14 errors or 82,3%, the second error is misinformation  consist of 2 errors or 11,7%. The third error is addition consist of 1 errors or 5,8%, and the last place is omission, it is there is no found error.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe the problems in the patriarchal society and prove the optimistic realism contained in the novel “A Golden Web” by Barbara Quick and how female characters were portrayed in the 18th century. The method to analyze the novel is content analysis and literature review from books and theories related to the novel and historical records. Using a new criticism approach, this paper examines the intrinsic elements of the story. The writer studies the elements through characters and characterizations using descriptive-analytical structures. The paper ends with descriptions of character and characterization, optimism realism, and how female characters in the 18th-century novel’ contained can be revealed.Keywords: realism; patriarchy; optimism; new criticism
