Abstract

This study aims to explain human anger in the Qur'an from the perspective of Islamic communication psychology. This is because anger is a dangerous emotion. This type of research aims to find the essence of words and sentences in the language paradigm. The subject of this research is self-communication in the Qur'an. The theory used is the cognitive dissonance theory. This type of research is qualitative with a thematic interpretation approach. Data collection techniques are interviews, literature review, and documentation. Data analysis techniques include collecting, reducing, presenting, and drawing credible conclusions. The research shows that there are four anger emotions in Islamic psychology communication, people who vent their anger, people who hold back their anger, people who forgive others, and people who do good to people who do evil. Based on Islamic communication psychology's perspective, the four actualizations of angry emotions add to the types of anger. Furthermore, these four types of angry emotions form a hierarchy so that individuals can learn to reach the highest hierarchy.

Abstract

Counseling training programs need to be held because there is still a lack of student skills related to this program. Thus the competence of peer counselors needs to be improved. This training program's purposes are to provide participants with new knowledge and insight regarding the treatment of peer counselors. The research sample was 47 students undergraduate. The experimental design used is One Group Pre-test and Post-test Design. This training was held in two days with different durations. The research methods used here were mixed methods. The qualitative data were gained through a self-reflection form. Then, the quantitative data were taken through a knowledge test. The result of the Quantitative test was based on the analysis of the Paired sample T-Test, the result is p = 0.00 (p < 0.01). This implies that there is a clear difference before and after the training program. As can be seen from the qualitative results, the majority of the participants have experienced positive changes which can be detected in the self-reflection form exclusively in the section of new skills, skill upgrades, insights, and impressions. In the end, this article discusses findings, limitations, and recommendations for further peer counselor research and training program.

Abstract

The Panjang Mulud tradition in Serang, Banten is one of the traditions that aims to pay homage and a form of happiness for the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. This tradition is meant as a feeling of gratitude for all the pleasures of life, as well as an effort by the community to tighten the social relations between one another. This study aims to examine social communication that occurs in the Panjang Mulud tradition and the meaning of social action in it for supporting a harmonious social life. This research was conducted through a qualitative approach of ethnomethodology. The data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation triangulation. Moreover, data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions, which were then analyzed by relating social action theory with the social communication concept. Based on data findings, it was concluded that Panjang Mulud is a space created consciously to reinforce their religious and cultural identity. The activities in the Panjang Mulud tradition are believed to be a form of social action carried out consciously and more value-oriented compared to other motives.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of students carrying out religious activities in the digital era. This type of research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data collection through questionnaires, documentation, and observation. The limitation of problems in classifying religious activities in question is in the form of Islamic da'wah activities that students participate in through social media platforms and student religious strengthening activities through gadget devices. Researchers conducted data analysis through respondent data classification, data reduction, and conclusion. This paper produces findings of two things, first, about students' religious activities in witnessing da'wah on social media, which dominantly chooses ustaz with melancholy content. Second, students in the digital era strengthen their religion more through electronic media than visiting teachers to read holy books, imitate worship procedures, and take religious literature that is considered relevant.

Abstract

Education is commonly perceived as the process of having systematic instruction from educators for better living quality, and sometimes, it means higher lifetime earnings. Teachers play an important role in educating the next generation. The Indonesian talk show “Kick Andy” and the news portal “Kumparan” released on Youtube, show a message on education. These programs narrate the story of an early-childhood-education teacher from a remote area in Nusa Tenggara Timur. Both programs illustrate a woman’s struggle to obtain an education opportunity and provide access to education among the children in her village. The data was collected with an interview method. Data were available on television and online media platform. This study employs a framework by Sara Mills’s critical discourse in a combination of the teacher’s professional development theory to rectify how mass media portrays a female teacher who lives in a marginal area. Based on the collected data in Ibusm State, on the one hand, this study finds that the media still depicts women as submissive and oppressed figures who should serve the family and country. On the other hand, it is found that women are empowered to rise from adversity, which is also reinforced by a strong teacher’s professional identity in a teacher’s self.

Abstract

Although many agencies have carried out campaigns for and socialization of religious moderation, cases of intolerance still occur locally. These socialization agents are religious groups and university academics, and the media play a significant role because they produce information and influence people's perceptions to take action. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with Stuart Hall's content analysis. Hall believed that meaning is constructed through language. Meanwhile, the primary data source is religious moderation narrative articles published in the Solopos. This paper aims to describe the discourse on religious moderation produced by Solopos, published every Friday through the Khazanah rubric from March 2020 to March 2022. This research focuses on three aspects: firstly, who are the agencies used as references by the Solopos media in producing moderation narratives?; secondly, what are the issues contained in the Khazanah rubric?; and thirdly, how does the editorial policy present the discourse of religious moderation in Khazanah rubric? The conclusions of this study are: Firstly, Solopos uses teachers, lecturers, and religious leaders as references. They come from Islamic organizations such as NU and Muhammadiyah. Secondly, the issue of religious moderation raised by Solopos revolves around fiqh, muamalah, and aqidah. Thirdly, the editor of Solopos is committed to maintaining harmony by continuing to display articles that reflect moderate Islam. We call the journalism practice implemented by Solopos through the Khazanah rubric the wasathiyah journalism.
