Abstract

Background: Working Memory is a memory system capable of analyzing information after receiving it and can then be displayed again (Nadira et al., 2023). Meanwhile, reading comprehension is a reading activity that involves cognitive roles in thinking, analyzing, and understanding a text (Tahmidaten & Krismanto, 2020). Thus, the ability of working memory is a cognitive component that can be related to reading comprehension ability, which requires cognitive roles in thinking. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between working memory and reading comprehension in fourth-grade students at SDIT Cahaya Hati Pedan, Klaten Regency. Methods: This research employs a quantitative approach with a correlational research design and a cross-sectional data collection approach. The sampling technique was carried out using simple random sampling technique. Simple Random Sampling is a sampling of part of the population where each member has the same opportunity to be selected. This study used a sample of 55 4th grade students at SDIT Cahaya Hati Pedan, Klaten Regency. The collected data will be analyzed descriptively and bivariately. The statistical test used is Spearman Rank due to the non-normal distribution of the data (non-parametric). Research Results: The results of the statistical test, specifically the Spearman rank test, indicate that the abilities of working memory and reading comprehension have a significance of 0.000 (ρ value), where 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, Ho (null hypothesis) is rejected, and Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. The strength of the relationship can be seen from the results of r = 0.589 these results indicate that the strength of the correlation is moderate and shows a positive correlation direction. Conclusion: This research concludes that there is a relationship between working memory and reading comprehension in fourth-grade students at SDIT Cahaya Hati Pedan, Klaten Regency. Keywords: Working Memory, Reading Comprehension, Grade 4 Students

Abstract

Background: Rapid naming allows someone to speak language well and correctly in social interactions. Language problems often occur in children with special needs, especially children with autism spectrum disorders. Objectives: To determine the relationship between rapid naming and the pragmatic abilities of children with autism spectrum disorders aged 3-8 years at PLDPI Surakarta. Methods: Descriptive correlational research design with a sample size of 30 people using total sampling. Results: Rapid naming is related to children's pragmatic abilities, because to be able to interact socially well, children must first master vocabulary and rapid naming. When a child's vocabulary increases and their rapid naming ability increases, the child is able to form phrases, these phrases will develop into sentences and then a series of sentences will form a story. The faster the duration produced, the better the child's rapid naming ability. Conclusion: The ability to analyze clients with rapid naming problems in children with autism spectrum disorders is apparently still lacking. There needs to be strategic steps from professional associations to be more precise in analyzing and implementing rapid naming of children with autism spectrum disorders. Abstract

Background: One of the problems experienced by the elderly is experiencing a decrease in cognitive abilities such as difficulty remembering, retrieving new information, focusing, making decisions and various aspects such as orientation, visual spatial, memory and language. The problem of cognitive decline will develop into dementia and will affect functional abilities and reduce the quality of life of the elderly. Prevention of cognitive decline in the elderly can be done with cognitive interventions in the form of memory training anagram games. Objectives: This study aims to determine the effect of anagram game memory training on cognitive abilities in the elderly. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental one group pre-test and post-test method with a total sample of 42 elderly people at Aisyiyah Sumber Solo Nursing Home. The research instrument used the Indonesian version of the Montreal Cogntive Assessment (MoCA-Ina). Three stages of the anagram game were given each intervention based on the research module that had been prepared. The data analysis method uses paired t-test with the previous stage, namely data normality test with Shapiro Wilk. Results: The paired t-test results showed that the sig value was <0.05. An increase in moCA-Ina scores occurred after being given anagram game memory training intervention (mean difference 2.48). Memory training of anagram games affects the cognitive abilities of the elderly at Aisyiyah Sumber Solo Nursing Home (????=0.000). The research sample was entirely female, 76.2% dominated by the early elderly age group, 90.5% low-level education. Conclusion: This study shows that memory training intervention in the form of anagram games has a significant effect on the cognitive abilities of the elderly.
