Abstract

This study aims to analyze the employee work system, the quality of wood raw materials, and the availability of work equipment at a small-scale furniture company in Gorontalo, considering that these three aspects play a crucial role in determining the quality and productivity of the furniture industry. This study used a qualitative descriptive method through in-depth interviews with five active workers, to describe the actual conditions of the production process, from wood selection, drying techniques, tool use, to product finishing. The results show that the quality of wood as a raw material is still assessed visually and without technical standards, which often results in shrinkage, cracks, and product defects. The drying process is carried out manually using sunlight, so production time is dependent on the weather and is unpredictable, slowing down the overall workflow. Furthermore, the company relies on manual tools and employees' personal tools, which not only prolongs processing time but also reduces quality consistency and increases the risk of production delays. These conditions are exacerbated by an informal work system and the absence of standard operating procedures (SOPs), resulting in unstructured quality control. Overall, this study concludes that the main obstacles to productivity lie in the quality of raw materials that are not standardized, limited production tools, and informal work structures, so that comprehensive improvements are needed through standardization of raw materials, improvement of work tools, and strengthening of operational procedures to achieve better production efficiency and quality.

Abstract

The bakery industry plays a vital role in the Indonesian economy, particularly in absorbing labor and reducing unemployment. However, most research is macro-scale, thus under-representing the dynamics of micro-scale business development. This study aims to analyze the business development strategy of Roti Yulfa Labulango, its contribution to employment, and the challenges faced. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design on Roti Yulfa Labulango, which has been operating since June 2019 on Jl. Bali, Pulubala, Kota Tengah, Gorontalo City, with one owner and six employees. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, production process observations, and operational documentation, then analyzed inductively and thematically. The results show that the bread product diversification strategy (pandan, peanut, chocolate, mocha, and banana), production scheduling, and clear task allocation increased production capacity, product quality, and workforce skills and stability. This business development was able to absorb direct and indirect labor, including local residents, thus contributing significantly to reducing local unemployment.

Abstract

The development of Islamic art plays a crucial role in religious education and character building for the younger generation. However, the practice and training of Islamic art at the community level still face various challenges. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic religious instructors as agents of change in developing Islamic art in Batang Serangan District, Langkat Regency. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, incorporating in-depth interviews with four religious instructors, complemented by qualitative participatory methods and data analysis. The results indicate that religious instructors actively participate in introducing Islamic art, guiding arts groups, instilling religious and moral values, and increasing community participation in Islamic art activities. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating participatory methods and the active role of instructors as agents of change in cultural transformation and religious education. This research empowers practitioners, historians, and stakeholders to optimize Islamic art training and opens up opportunities for broader, further research combining qualitative and quantitative methods.

Abstract

This study examines the management of digital collections at the Library of SMAN 1 Babalan, which has experienced a decline in student utilization due to weak management systems and low digital literacy. The purpose of this research is to analyze how digital collection management can meet students’ information needs and to identify its supporting and inhibiting factors. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving librarians, the head librarian, and students. The findings show that digital collection management has not been fully optimized due to limitations in infrastructure, policy, and librarian competencies. However, the study also identifies potential improvement through digital literacy training and the implementation of user-needs-based collection management systems. This research concludes that the success of library digitalization depends on the integration of policy, technology, and information literacy within the school environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of modern work systems on the social, economic, and emotional lives of workers at the Rista Ban Workshop in Gorontalo City. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and case studies, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the workshop owner and three employees with varying lengths of service. The results show that a rational, standardized, and efficiency-oriented work structure provides economic benefits for workers through basic salaries, meal facilities, and additional income from overtime. However, this system also gives rise to complex social dynamics, such as imbalances in work contributions, potential conflicts between workers, and increased psychological burdens on senior workers. These conditions align with Max Weber's concept of the "iron cage," in which workers are bound by a rational work system that limits flexibility and personal freedom. These findings confirm that modern work systems in small, informal sector businesses have a dualistic impact: strengthening workers' economic stability while simultaneously creating social and emotional stress that requires attention in workforce management.

Abstract

This study explores consumer culture among Sociology students at Gorontalo State University, focusing on the forms, driving factors, meanings, symbolic interactions, and social impacts of consumer behavior. The research approach used was qualitative, with data collected through in-depth interviews with eight students from various semesters and classes from October 27 to November 30, 2025. The findings indicate that consumer behavior primarily occurs in the purchase of non-essential goods, such as clothing, gadgets, and lifestyle products, influenced by peer pressure, social media trends, and family background. Internal factors such as personal financial awareness and family values, as well as external factors such as social media exposure and peer influence, collectively shape student consumption patterns. Consumption serves not only to fulfill needs but also as a symbol of self-expression, identity construction, and social integration. Symbolic interactions influence students' perceptions of needs and wants, guiding consumption decision-making in a social context. The socio-impacts of consumer culture include status competition, financial pressure, and social inequality, while fostering creativity and social bonds.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of social capital in supporting the sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Kalimadu Culinary Center, Gorontalo City. The approach used was descriptive qualitative with five MSMEs as key informants, selected purposively based on age, type of business, and length of operation. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted through thematic analysis to identify relevant patterns, themes, and categories. The results showed that social capital plays a significant role in MSME resilience through social networks between traders, customer trust, and community support. Strategies for utilizing social capital include collaboration, joint promotions, sharing supplier information, and forming small groups to monitor market trends. Obstacles encountered include conflicts of interest between traders, low participation of network members, and differences in priorities that limit the effectiveness of social capital.

Abstract

Early-age smoking remains a significant social issue among high school students. This study examines smoking behavior among students of SMA Negeri 7 Gorontalo, the factors influencing its emergence, and the effectiveness of social control within the family, school, and community. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving student smokers, peers, teachers, parents, and community members. The findings reveal that smoking is often carried out secretly and is primarily driven by peer influence, followed by smoking habits within the family, curiosity, easy access to cigarettes, and emotional pressure. Social control in schools and the community remains weak, contributing to the normalization of adolescent smoking. These results support Hirschi’s social control theory, which states that weakened social bonds increase the likelihood of deviant behavior. The study highlights the need to strengthen social control across all environments to reduce early-age smoking among students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the flexible work relationship model in the Maxim digital transportation industry in Gorontalo, focusing on working-hour flexibility, income, algorithmic control, and social protection for driver-partners. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The findings indicate that work flexibility provides advantages for drivers in adjusting their work to personal needs; however, it also creates income uncertainty due to dependence on the number of orders and platform algorithms. Most drivers are not registered in social security schemes, exposing them to social and economic risks. Algorithmic control limits drivers’ autonomy despite their freedom to determine working hours. This study recommends the integration of social security coverage, greater algorithmic transparency, digital literacy enhancement, and collaboration among government, companies, and drivers to create a fair and sustainable work ecosystem.
