Abstract

The integration of Islamic principles into psychological research has gained momentum in the last 40 years, reflecting a growing effort to establish a theologically grounded Islamic psychology paradigm. This study identifies four prevailing trends in Islamic psychological research: exploratory-descriptive studies, psychometric and validation studies, Islamically-originated research, and Islamic-psychological integrative studies. The later trend highlights the need for an integrative framework to enhance the credibility, transparency, and holistic development of Islamic psychology. However, significant challenges remain, including limited theological knowledge among Muslim psychologists and the lack of structured frameworks to guide integration efforts. To address these issues, this study introduces the Islamic-Psychological Research Integration Framework, a systematic five-step process that requires collaboration between psychologists and Islamic scholars. The framework includes identifying, evaluating, adapting, validating, and empirically testing the integrated-psychological constructs in empirical research. By aligning psychological concepts with Islamic principles, the framework mitigates researcher uncertainty while ensuring methodological and theological rigor. It provides practical guidelines for researchers seeking to bridge the gap between modern psychological methodology and Islamic principles, thereby promoting a comprehensive understanding of human behaviour. This initiative enriches both theoretical discourse and the psychological needs of Muslim communities, fostering a harmonious integration of scientific inquiry and Islamic values.

Abstract

This paper explores the role of gratitude in enhancing psychological well-being, bridging insights from psychological research and Islamic teachings. Gratitude, a fundamental virtue, has been extensively studied for its positive effects on mental health, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Empirical evidence links gratitude to increased life satisfaction, happiness, and emotional well-being. From an Islamic perspective, gratitude, or shukr, fosters spiritual resilience and psychological strength. It is viewed not only as a response to divine blessings but also as a proactive practice that nurtures positive emotions, reinforces coping strategies, and encourages prosocial behavior. This paper reviews significant studies, including gratitude-based interventions such as journaling and gratitude letters, demonstrating their efficacy in reducing depression, anxiety, and stress while fostering long-term well-being. Cultural and gender differences in gratitude expression and their implications for mental health are also discussed. Furthermore, integrating gratitude into counseling and therapeutic practices, particularly within the Islamic psychological framework, is highlighted as a promising approach. The findings suggest that cultivating gratitude can serve as an effective strategy for enhancing mental health, providing valuable insights for developing therapeutic interventions that align with both psychological principles and Islamic values.

Abstract

Self-esteem is a crucial aspect of mental health, often posing challenges for individuals with disabilities. Logotherapy is an effective interventions that can be used to enhance self-esteem, particularly for those who facing physical or psychological limitations. This study aims to evaluate the application of logotherapy in improving self-esteem among individuals with disabilities. This research is a case study approach with a respondent at the Sentra Terpadu “Prof. Dr. Soeharso” Surakarta. Data collection methods included interviews, observations, psychological testing (DAP, BAUM, HTP, Wartegg, SSCT), and self-esteem measurement using the RSES scale. The findings indicate that logotherapy can facilitate positive changes for the respondent, particularly by enhancing self-esteem. Furthermore, the presence of a supportive social environment and appropriate therapeutic interventions reinforces the positive effects of logotherapy. However, potential risks, such as social stigma, must be addressed through psychoeducation to promote broader community awareness and support the empowerment of individuals with disabilities in their social contexts.

Abstract

Everyone desires happiness. Happiness can be achieved through many things, one of which is carrying out positive activities, namely almsgiving (philanthropy). Almsgiving itself must be done with complete self-awareness. Awareness that almsgiving comes from self-motivation to do something good. Therefore, self-awareness is an essential aspect of giving alms. This research aims to determine the relationship between alms (philanthropy) and self-awareness of happiness. This research method is a correlational quantitative method that uses the Alms Scale (philanthropy), Self-Awareness Scale, and Happiness Scale measuring instruments. The sample consisted of 155 people, with the criteria being active students at the Faculty of Psychology, ***, class 2019-2022. The sampling technique used is incidental sampling. The data analysis used was a multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS 23 for Windows. The results of the major hypothesis in this research show that there is a significant relationship between happiness and the alms (philanthropy) variable and the self-awareness variable sig 0.018 (P Value < 0.05), with an effective contribution of 7.5%. The results of the minor hypothesis show that there is a significant positive relationship between alms (philanthropy) and happiness with a correlation coefficient value of rxy = 0.213 with a minor hypothesis of 0.030 (Sig 2-tailed < 0.05) and an effective contribution of 4.2%. The minor hypothesis on the self-awareness variable shows that there is no significant positive relationship with the happiness variable of rxy=0.190 with a minor hypothesis of 0.053 (Sig 2-tailed <0.05) and an effective contribution of 3.3%. This research provides implications for individuals on how to achieve happiness through spiritual experiences from charity activities, especially for people in need.
