Evrimata: Journal of Mechanical Engineering The interdisciplinary research edition covering scientific areas: - Mechanical Engineering - Otomotive Engineering - Material Engineering Taking into account the interdisciplinary character of the journal, the authors in its materials should emphasize field of application of their research, always emphasizing the importance of the subject for the research community in related fields of knowledge. For example: - If the article deals with the new inorganic materials then should be pointed as such materials may be used by specialists in the field of energy, electronics, etc., or how understanding the mechanism of the processes can be taken into account in the synthesis of other new materials. - If the article is about new methods of mathematical modeling, it should specify what restrictions may apply specifics of field of application to the proposed original method (accounting of external factors, the initial or boundary conditions, internal factors that can not be an accurate accounting and so on). Therefore, when submitting the articles in this section, are welcome articles, co-authors of which are experts in different fields of knowledge.

Abstract

This study addresses the need for enhanced vehicle cooling systems as modern engines operate under increasingly harsh conditions, necessitating efficient heat dissipation to prevent overheating and optimize fuel efficiency. The aim of this research is to investigate the combined effect of adding Al₂O₃ nanoparticles and applying ultrasonic vibration on the heat transfer performance of automotive radiators. Experimental tests were conducted with various concentrations of Al₂O₃ nanoparticles, and ultrasonic vibrations were applied to assess their impact on fluid temperature, temperature differences across the radiator, and overall heat transfer rate. The results demonstrate that the addition of Al₂O₃ nanoparticles significantly improved the thermal conductivity and temperature differential (ΔT) between the inlet and outlet of the radiator. Furthermore, ultrasonic vibration enhanced heat transfer by disrupting the thermal boundary layer and increasing fluid turbulence. Notably, the combined use of both techniques resulted in a significant increase in the heat transfer coefficient (U) and the heat transfer rate (Q). These findings contribute to the existing body of knowledge by showing that the synergistic application of nanoparticles and ultrasonic vibrations offers an efficient solution for improving vehicle cooling systems without requiring substantial design changes.

Abstract

The radiator cooling system plays an important role in maintaining optimal engine operating temperature. To improve the effectiveness of coolant temperature control, it is necessary to select a control method that is able to provide a good system response. This study aims to compare the performance of ON/OFF control and Sugeno type Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) in the control system. Tests were conducted at ΔT setpoints of 2°C, 4°C, and 6°C. System performance was evaluated based on the parameters of rise time, overshoot, settling time, steady-state error (SSE), and mean absolute error (MAE). The test results showed that the Fuzzy method produced a rise time that was 8.28% faster, an average overshoot that was 8.15% lower, a settling time that was 6.48% faster, and a smaller MAE that was 11.33% lower than the ON/OFF method. Based on the evaluation of system response parameters, the Fuzzy method was considered more suitable for application in the ΔT-based radiator coolant temperature control system.
