Abstract

This paper seeks to determine the link between patent protection, technology and the rate of economic growth in the period 1990-2018 using Romer’s model of endogenous growth and Neoclassical model of economic growth. Least squares is used to check for significance of innovation and technology in influencing economic growth. The results show that, innovation (patent rights) and technology (manufactured and high technology exports) are positively important in determining the rate of economic growth in Kenya. From the results, this paper recommends that there is need for government to encourage innovation through providing patent rights as a means of enhancing economic growth through innovation in new methods and technologies in production and service offering. As well, the government should embrace technology as means of expanding on returns to scale on resources, hence, economic growth.

Abstract

Many human activities related to information systems, whether consciously or not, information systems have helped humans a lot. It should be noted that information systems do not always have to be complex—simple information systems. The system is only used to record sales transactions involving one person only; through a computer, the user enters sales data, and when the store is closed, a daily sales report is printed. Furthermore, the report is used to analyze salable items that are useful for making purchasing decisions. A management information system is a comprehensive, coordinated, and rationally integrated set of information sub-systems capable of transforming data into information through a series of ways to increase productivity by the style and nature of managers based on predetermined quality criteria. The development of a sophisticated computer-based MIS requires several highly skilled and long-experienced people and requires the participation of organizational managers.

Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze the status of Women Empowerment in India and highlights the Issues and Challenges of Women Empowerment. Women empowerment means emancipation of women from the vicious grips of social, economical, political, caste and gender based discrimination. We can analyze their conditions through a number of parameters like their involvement in household decision making right, freedom of thought, financial authority, gender equality, political participation, media exposure, access to education etc. It is noticed that still gender inequality is a serious concern and is prevailing dominantly in our society. This as an agenda has been on top of the lists of most government plans & programs as well. Efforts have been made on a regular basis across nations to address this issue and enhance the socio-economic status of women. However, it has been observed that most of the policies and programs view empowerment in the economic sense only working in the belief that economic self-reliance empowers women ignoring other variables like health, education, literacy etc.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a global pandemic that has disrupted the education system, school calendar and many students have lost a year or two of school. Many teachers in Uganda who are not on government payroll have not had a stable income for over a year. This has created anxiety among both the students and the teachers who are eager to have their schools reopened and are willing to do anything to return to work and school. However, when the teachers were asked to get vaccinated many were reluctant to do so. This paper is a case study of the influences on teachers’ response to mandatory COVID-19 vaccination. Using W.H.O’s immunization survey questions (WHO, 2013), a parallel sampling design was used to compare two regions and the respondents were selected using volunteer/convenience sampling. It was discovered that individual and group influences, contextual influences and vaccine specific issues play a major role in determining community responsiveness to new vaccines.
