Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension during pregnancy is a common complication that increases the risk of preeclampsia, leading to maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Box breathing techniques have shown promise in lowering blood pressure and stress, but their effectiveness in pregnant women at risk of hypertension and preeclampsia has not been widely studied. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of a prototype box breathing intervention in reducing blood pressure and symptoms in pregnant women at risk of these conditions. Methods: A quantitative, experimental study with a pretest-posttest design was conducted at four hospitals in Indonesia. A sample of 198 pregnant women in their 1st-3rd trimesters was selected using purposive sampling. The intervention involved the use of a prototype box breathing device, and data were collected on blood pressure and symptoms before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: After the prototype box breathing intervention, there was a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure from 147.83 mmHg to 132.36 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure from 94.76 mmHg to 86.16 mmHg (p-value 0.000). The average symptom score also decreased from 5.93 to 1.25 following the intervention. Conclusion: The use of the prototype box breathing device is effective in lowering blood pressure and reducing symptoms associated with preeclampsia risk in pregnant women. This non-pharmacological intervention offers a promising approach for managing hypertension during pregnancy and preventing the progression to preeclampsia. Further research is needed to validate these findings and optimize the implementation of box breathing techniques in prenatal care.

Abstract

Introduction: There are several problems commonly experienced by women during the postpartum period, in the form of physical, psychological, social and sexual problems due to drastic hormonal changes. The aim of the research was to explore the perceptions of postpartum mothers regarding efforts to prevent baby blues and postpartum depression through yoga and facial acupressure at the Sawan II Community Health Center, Buleleng, Bali. Method: qualitative research type, with narrative analysis. The informants or resource persons involved were 15 pregnant women in the third trimester (gestational age >36 weeks), and are willing to become informants, without any pregnancy complications until the 42nd day of postpartum. The research instrument uses in-depth interview guidelines and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EDPS). Research from May-August 2024 in the work area of Sawan II Community Health Center. Results: It was found that 12 people (80%) of informants were aged between ≥20 years - <35 years, two people (13.33%) were <20 years old and one respondent was > 35 years old (6.67%). A total of 8 informants were multigravida (53.33%), and one person was grandemulti gravida (6.67%). Informants admitted that yoga was very useful, especially during meditation, to reduce anxiety, sadness, increase feelings of gratitude and peace. The perception of facial acupressure is that it feels very relaxed, comfortable, even calming. Conclusion: The informant's perception regarding the yoga and facial acupressure efforts that have been provided through antenatal classes is that they are very useful and can be applied at home.

Abstract

Introduction: Malaria vaccines show significant potential for disease control but face challenges, including declining efficacy over time and resistance to drugs and insecticides. Despite the initial success of vaccines like RTS,S/AS01, an integrated approach is still needed to address malaria’s complex transmission dynamics across endemic regions. This review examines the current status, challenges, and future prospects of malaria vaccine development, focusing on the impact of combining pre-erythrocytic vaccines and transmission-blocking drugs using mathematical modeling to enhance their effectiveness in reducing transmission. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using the PICO framework to evaluate the effectiveness of malaria vaccines in reducing disease transmission. The review included studies involving vulnerable populations, particularly children in African countries. It compared the effectiveness of malaria vaccines with other control strategies, such as insecticide-treated bed nets and antimalarial drugs. Five relevant primary journals were analyzed using databases like PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Results: Findings reveal that newly developed malaria vaccines have significant potential to reduce malaria cases. However, large-scale implementation and regular vaccination strategies are required for sustained effectiveness. Genetic studies highlight the emergence of resistance, emphasizing the need for adaptable vaccines and strategies. Conclusion: Malaria vaccines, while promising, face obstacles such as waning efficacy and resistance. A combined strategy involving vaccines and transmission-blocking treatments is essential for global malaria elimination. Further research and strategic implementation are needed to optimize vaccine effectiveness and overcome these challenges.

Abstract

Introduction: The government has implemented various efforts to address nutritional issues, one of which is the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 42 of 2013. This regulation governs the National Movement for the Acceleration of Nutrition Improvement, involving collective efforts by the government and stakeholders. To achieve substantial results, stunting reduction efforts must be integrated and converge across multiple sectors. This study aims to describe the collaboration process in stunting reduction, which presents significant challenges in implementation. Methods: A qualitative method with an interactive data-analysis approach was used in this study. The analysis involved three key stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results: The study revealed that the collaboration process begins with face-to-face dialogue, fostering trust and leading to a commitment to the process. This is achieved through mutual understanding and shared benefits. While face-to-face dialogue is progressing, the involvement of diverse stakeholders remains limited. Nevertheless, the actors involved demonstrate mutual trust, a shared vision, and commitment to a joint agenda. In Central Buton Regency, collaboration is essential to address stunting effectively. Conclusion: The study concludes that while face-to-face meetings involve key parties, broader stakeholder participation, such as community leaders, is still lacking. However, mutual trust and a shared vision among existing participants highlight the importance of multisectoral involvement in reducing stunting prevalence

Abstract

Introduction: Data from the 2023 electronic recording and reporting system for community-based nutrition (e-PPGBM) shows a stunting rate of 15,2% in NTT, while the 2022 SSGI data reports a stunting rate of 35,3%. The accuracy of data on stunting cases is critical. To date, the Posyandu (integrated health post) in NTT still relies on manual data recording, which is collected at the Puskesmas (community health centers). The city of Kupang has implemented the e-PPGBM system since 2016, but user acceptance has not been fully assessed due to a lack of studies on the subject. Thus, an evaluation of the knowledge, attitudes, roles and also length of work of Posyandu cadres and the acceptance level of e-PPGBM operators in all Puskesmas in Kupang is necessary. Methods: This study was conducted in 11 Puskesmas in Kupang with 55 Posyandu cadres and 55 e-PPGBM operators as respondents. This study is a mixed- method research. The study used an observational method using questionnaires. System acceptance of e-PPGBM was measured using the HOT (Human-Organization-Technology) model, combined with aspects of regulation and benefits. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews, while secondary data were obtained from e-PPGBM records in the Puskesmas from January to June 2024. Results: The evaluation of the knowledge, attitude, and role of the cadres in early detection of stunting was categorized as good. There was a significant correlation between length of work experience and knowledge (p = 0,036, r=0,036) and the attitude of the cadres (p = 0,034, r=0,054). The system acceptance measurement of e-PPGBM operators was categorized as good in the human aspect, and very good in the organization, technology, knowledge, regulation, and benefit aspects, with correlations found between all variables. Conclusion: Posyandu cadres in Kupang have not yet used the e-PPGBM application, monthly recordings at the Posyandu are still manual, and the application is entirely managed by nutrition officers at the Puskesmas. Limited internet access is a major challenge in using the application. Training is needed to involve cadres in using the application, alongside infrastructure improvements (internet network, PCs, and laptops) at both the Posyandu and Puskesmas levels
