Abstract

Background: The Household Emergency Preparedness Scale (HEPS) is designed to measure preparedness levels within households. Despite its effectiveness in English-speaking populations, culturally adapted versions for non-English speakers remain limited, especially in Southeast Asia. Translating HEPS into Bahasa Indonesia could offer a relevant tool for Indonesian communities frequently affected by natural disasters. Objective: This study aimed to translate and validate the Bahasa Indonesia version of HEPS. Methods: This study involved a three-phase process, including translation, cultural adaptation, and psychometric validation. Forward and backward translations were conducted, followed by expert panel reviews and content validity was evaluated through Aiken’s V coefficient, with ratings from five experts. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to assess construct validity. Reliability was measured using Cronbach’s alpha and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Results: The Bahasa Indonesia HEPS demonstrated strong content validity, with most items achieving an Aiken’s V score of 1.00. The CFA showed acceptable model fit across all subscales, with fit indices within recommended ranges (CFI > 0.90, RMSEA < 0.08). Reliability was high, with Cronbach’s alpha exceeding 0.80 for all subscales except one, which exhibited moderate inter-rater reliability (ICC = 0.546–0.732). Conclusion: The Bahasa Indonesia HEPS is a reliable and valid tool for assessing household emergency preparedness in Indonesia. It holds promise for both community-level assessments and policy planning in disaster-prone areas, providing a culturally relevant measure to enhance emergency preparedness initiatives.

Abstract

Background: Early-childhood social-emotional development (SED) is strongly related to lifelong well-being and academic development and mental health resilience. The absence of tools that are suitably culturally and linguistically validated for assessing SED in Indonesia nevertheless limits early opportunities for identifying developmental concerns. The objective of this study was to translate and validate the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE) into Bahasa Indonesia so that it can be reliably and validly used in assessing SED for Indonesian children. Purpose: this study aimed to translate, cultural adaptation, and the validation of the ASQ:SE for Indonesian children 6 to 60 months of age, thus ensuring the soundness of any psychometric properties when applied in the local context. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 350 parents or caregivers of children aged 6–60 months from community health centers and early childhood education programs across urban and rural areas of Java, Indonesia. The ASQ:SE was translated forward and back, reviewed by experts, and subjected to cognitive debriefing. Psychometric properties were measured by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) for its construct validity, using Cronbach’s alpha for internal consistency, an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for test-retest reliability, and known-groups validity to distinguish typically developing children from those with clinician-identified developmental delays. Results: The model fit from the CFA was acceptable (χ²/df = 2.15, CFI = 0.91; TLI = 0.89, RMSEA = 0.06). Internal consistency was very high (α = 0.86), and the test-retest reliability revealed very high stability (ICC = 0.89, 95% CI = 0.85–0.92). Known-groups validity established that the scores were significantly different (t = 5.62, p < 0.001) between typically developing children and those with developmental delays, confirming the discriminative ability of the tool. Conclusion: The Indonesian version of ASQ:SE is marked by reliability and validity that are strong enough to render it a culturally appropriate instrument for assessing the SED of Indonesian children. In clinical and educational settings, this can provide an avenue for building towards and supporting further developmental delay and thus child development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the validity and reliability of a therapeutic communication questionnaire used with cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Therapeutic communication is a crucial element in patient recovery and an integral part of nursing practice. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design was applied, involving 100 patients at RSPAU Dr. S. Hardjolukito, Yogyakarta. The instrument consisted of 20 items adapted from Rizky Hardhiyani (2013). Validity testing showed that all items had a correlation coefficient (r) greater than the critical value (0.196), ranging from 0.203 to 0.412, and were therefore deemed valid. Reliability testing yielded a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.663, meeting the minimum reliability threshold (>0.60). Thus, this questionnaire is considered a valid and reliable instrument for assessing therapeutic communication in cancer patients.

Abstract

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize nursing practice services. It is important for nurse education to prepare nursing students to utilize AI technology and be willing to adopt it in nursing learning practices. Purpose: The objectives of this study were (1) to explore the relationship between attitudes, perceived utilization and barriers to nursing students' intentions toward AI in the context of nursing practice; (2) to explore nursing students' intentions toward AI in the context of nursing practice in terms of the theory of technology acceptance model and theory of planned behaviors Methods: The study design used a mixed methods approach. A total of 581 nursing students from nursing education institutions in East Java were included in this study. Person correlation, t-test, linear regression and mediation analyses were conducted using Hayes' PROCESS macro in SPSS (Model 4). Focus group discussions were conducted and analyzed verbatim using thematic analysis. Results: Perceived utilization, management of barriers and attitudes toward using AI in nursing practice had a significant positive influence on student nurses' intentions toward AI. Attitude toward AI partially mediated the relationship between perceived utilization and barriers of AI in nursing practice and intention to adopt AI technology. Three overarching themes included (1) AI acceptance; (2) moral-ethics; (3) learning and practice. Conclusions: This study provide insights into the factors in increasing intention to use AI technology. Attitude is a mediating factor that needs to be further developed and analyzed. Nursing stakeholders should implement curriculum policies that emphasize AI acceptance, moral-ethics, and learning and practice. Keywords: Artificial intelligence, attitudes, barriers, intentions, utilization.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the degenerative diseases that is often experienced by the elderly and can cause serious complications such as stroke and heart disease. Non-pharmacological treatments such as ergonomic gymnastics and spiritual therapy through murottal Al-Qur'an can be an alternative to help lower blood pressure. This study aims to determine the effect of the combination of ergonomic gymnastics and murottal Surah Ar-Rahman on lowering blood pressure in the elderly with hypertension. The research design used was one group pre-posttest design. The sample consisted of 36 elderly with hypertension. The intervention carried out was ergonomic gymnastics while listening to murottal Surah Ar-Rahman for 30 minutes, three times a week for four weeks (January 9-February 9, 2025). Blood pressure measurements were taken before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p <0.000). The combination of gymnastics and murottal is effective in lowering blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients. This intervention can be used as a holistic and religious complementary therapy option in the care of the elderly with hypertension

Abstract

Hypertension is a major public health issue that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. This study aims to analyze the risk factors associated with the incidence of hypertension at Sekip Public Health Center (Puskesmas Sekip) in Palembang. This research employed a quantitative approach using an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design, conducted from January 9 to February 9, 2025. Data were analyzed using non-parametric statistical tests (chi-square). The results showed that only age had a significant relationship with diastolic blood pressure (p=0.011), while there was no significant association between age and systolic blood pressure (p=1.000). Other factors, including body weight status, smoking history, diabetes history, hereditary disease history, stress history, regular eating patterns, and physical activity, showed no significant association with either systolic or diastolic blood pressure (all p-values > 0.05). In conclusion, among all analyzed risk factors, only age was found to significantly influence one component of blood pressure in hypertensive patients, specifically diastolic pressure.

Abstract

This literature review explores interventions for postpartum blues, a condition that affects up to 80% of new mothers. A systematic analysis was conducted on research published between 2010 and 2024, sourced from PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases. Of the 1,247 initial articles, 72 met the inclusion criteria following a comprehensive screening process. The findings indicate that psychosocial interventions, particularly peer support and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), provide the most substantial evidence for effectiveness. Additionally, emerging approaches, including hormonal treatments, nutritional supplementation, and technology-based support, show promising potential. The review also highlights the need for standardized outcome measures, longer-term studies, and culturally adapted interventions. The results advocate for implementing personalized, multimodal approaches and integrating these interventions into routine perinatal care. This review makes a significant contribution to evidence-based practices aimed at supporting maternal mental health during the critical postpartum period.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that is at risk of causing various complications including microvascular and macrovascular complications. It therefore needs to be controlled through the implementation of diabetes self-management on a regular daily basis. The factor that plays a role in influencing diabetes self-management is self-efficacy, therefore it is necessary to make efforts to increase self-efficacy through an educational program. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to design and validate educational materials to improve self-efficacy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: The method used consists of two phases, namely 1) design; and 2) validation of educational materials. The design of the educational materials followed the recommendations provided by Hoffman while the content followed the guidelines of the Association of Diabetes Educators. Validation was conducted including validation by experts and validation by representatives of the DM patient population using validity instruments. Results: The educational materials compiled consisted of six units, namely self-efficacy; diet (meal planning); exercise; therapy, independent blood sugar monitoring; and foot care. The results of validation by experts obtained an approval rate of 87.65%, while the results of validation from population representatives reached 99.04% approval. Conclusions: The educational materials compiled or designed have met the provisions of valid or feasible to be used as educational materials for type 2 DM patients. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus Self-Efficacy, Education, validation of educational materials
