Abstract

Kismantoro, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java is an area with a tropical climate and is situated in highlands, primarily dominated by agricultural land. Additionally, the cattle farming sector, particularly for cows and goats is extensively developed in Lemahbang and Pucung Villages, which are located on the border between Central Java and East Java. The potential of agricultural and livestock products in both villages is quite large, making agriculture and livestock one of the leading sectors. In order to optimise the management of agriculture and livestock, a work program was conducted with counselling and making of organic fertiliser. The basic ingredients are easy to obtain, low cost, and easy to make can be a potential economic value for farmers and breeders. The purpose of this program is to optimise the production of organic fertiliser to improve the development of the agricultural sector and support sustainable agriculture in Kismantoro. The method used in this activity is data collection in three ways, observation, interviews, and recording. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling method and data analysis techniques were carried out with qualitative descriptions. In this program, counselling, and technical guidance on making Jakabawhich is aliquid fertilizer that can aid in the growth and development of plants, made from rice water, household waste-based liquid oraganic fertilizer, and solid organic fertiliser based on livestock manure was held. Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have become a global health problem, including in Indonesia itself, where the death rate caused by NCDs is quite high. One of the NCDs that is often found in society is diabetes mellitus and gout. An integrated coaching post (posbindu) was implemented as a NCDs prevention program targeting people aged 15–60 years. Posbindu has been running regularly in three villages where the UGM KKN-PPM unit JT-133 is located, namely Tedunan Village, Wedung Village, and Tempel Village. This research method is to collect data from health test results, is processed descriptively and quantitatively, and short anamnesis results (qualitative data) to explore the risk factor. The characteristics of the Posbindu participants examined were 14% men and 86% women, with ages ranging from 20 to 60 years, with details of the age group 19–44 being 53% and 45–60 years being 47%. Apart from that, the body mass index (BMI) of Posbindu participants was 47% normal, while 49% were obese. When examining the blood sugar of the obese group aged 19-44 years, there was an increase in blood sugar levels and the incidence of diabetes, compared to the non-obese group in the same age group. In the uric acid examination, it was found that the incidence of hyperuricemia in the 19-44 years age group was related to the incidence of obesity and certain eating patterns. From these data it can be concluded that one of the causes of diabetes mellitus and gout in the 19-44 years age group is lifestyle. The unhealthy lifestyle of coastal communities in these three villages includes lack of physical activity, excessive consumption of foods and drinks high in sugar, and others. Therefore, promoting a healthy lifestyle wherever and whenever, especially during posbindu, is the main key in preventing and treating NCDs.

Abstract

One effort to reduce infectious diseases by the National Medium-Term Development Plan in the health sector for the 2020-2024 period is through the Handwashing with Soap Program (HWWS). This program aimed to minimize disease transmitted through hands, especially among schoolchildren. Therefore, effective and proper promotion about HWWS is needed. This research aims to determine the differences before and after the intervention related to knowledge, attitudes, and skills of HWWS based on the WHO six-step handwashing guidelines. This study is a pre-experimental research with a one-group pretest-posttest study design conducted on students in grades 4, 5, and 6 at SDN 1 Iroyudan. The independent variable is health promotion through presentations, posters, and direct demonstrations, while the dependent variables are students' knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to HWWS. Univariate analysis was conducted to determine the frequency distribution and percentage of each variable. The normality of research data was determined by the Shapiro-Wilk test. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Paired T-test if the research data had a normal distribution. If the research data did not have a normal distribution, the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used. The research results are means with a 95% confidence interval. There were 39 students from grades 4, 5, and 6 at SDN 1 Iroyudan, consisting of 24 male students and 15 female students. The mean pretest knowledge score of students was 17.15, while after the intervention, it became 19.56 (p-value 0.000). The mean pretest attitude score of students was 17.10, while after the intervention, it became 19.49 (p-value 0.000). The mean pretest skill score of students was 5.85, while after the intervention, it became 11.85 (p-value 0.000). This indicates a statistically significant difference before and after the intervention in the mean values of knowledge, attitudes, and skills of students related to HWWS according to WHO.

Abstract

This article discusses the program to optimise the potential of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in rural areas through a series of strategies that include data collection, registration of business licences, product certification, and development of MSMEs through aspects of packaging, branding and digital marketing. These programs were held in Wedung Village, Wedung, Demak. This service program aims to improve the quality of MSME businesses in the area through concrete steps. Data collection and registration of business licences is the first step in providing a legal basis and legality for MSMEs. Product certification is directed at improving the quality standards of MSME products, so that they can access a wider market. In addition, developing MSMEs through attractive packaging and strong branding will help differentiate products from competitors and build a positive image in the eyes of consumers. Digital marketing is considered as an effective tool in expanding market reach and reaching potential customers through online platforms. Through this approach, this article explores concrete efforts to strengthen MSMEs in rural areas, which in turn are expected to increase the local economy, create jobs, and reduce economic disparities between regions. By integrating data collection, business licences, product certification, and development through aspects of packaging, branding and digital marketing, this article provides a holistic view of how MSMEs in Wedung Village can optimise their potential and improve business quality to be sustainable.

Abstract

In the context of promoting sustainable development, coastal areas play a pivotal role in supporting local communities, as the region's economic activities heavily rely on its natural resources. One such coastal village is Wedung Village, situated in Wedung District, Demak Regency, Central Java. With its extensive coastal expanse, this area holds immense potential in terms of natural resources. The local community has undertaken various initiatives to harness these resources, including the establishment of shrimp and fish ponds, along with the utilization of diverse mangrove products. The significance of mangrove ecosystems in upholding the coastal equilibrium cannot be understated. However, these mangroves are currently confronted by an escalating threat of degradation due to land clearance for aquaculture ponds. This article centers on a community service program, specifically the development of the mangrove ecosystem's potential as part of the 2023 UGM Community Service Program-PPM (KKN-PPM) in Wedung Village, Demak. A range of programs aimed at tapping into the mangrove ecosystem's potential have been devised, encompassing education on the advantages and ecological importance of mangroves, mangrove ecosystem learning for students, mangrove distribution mapping, guidance on silvofishery practices, and the planting of mangrove saplings. The methodology employed involves a blend of literature review, on-site observations, and community engagement. Data collection done by direct observation and interviews with mangrove advocates and community leaders. The collected information is qualitatively and descriptively analyzed to perceive the potential of the mangrove ecosystem. From the data, Wedung Village had shown remarkable potential on mangrove ecosystems. The implementation of silvofishery practices emerges as a means to preserve the ecological role of mangroves and enhance aquaculture productivity. In addition, mangrove seedlings were planted as a form of conservation efforts. These initiatives have effectively heightened community awareness regarding the significance of mangroves and their sustainable stewardship.

Abstract

Kebonagung tourist village offers a variety of tourist destinations ranging from agricultural education, traditions, to crafts. As a complement, the manager of the tourist village provides a welcoming drink for visiting tourists. However, there has not been a welcoming drink and typical souvenirs from the Kebonagung Village. The dedication aims to create product processing innovations from local resources. The KKN-PPM UGM from Imogiri unit took the initiative to develop the Vegetable Hummingbird Wedang Uwuh product. This dedication begins with a preliminary survey, then continues with the process of developing wedang uwuh products using the drying method. At the end of the dedication activity, socialization was carried out regarding the production process of Vegetable Hummingbird Wedang Uwuh and a survey has done through interviews to determine the level of success of the dedication activity. Making Vegetable Hummingbird Wedang Uwuh begins with washing the ingredients thoroughly, sun drying the ingredients, drying the ingredients using an oven at 50°C, then packing the dry ingredients in tea bags to make the product easier to consume. The product is also repackaged in a paper pouch by paying attention to the packaging design so that a product prototype is produced. Vegetable Hummingbird Wedang Uwuh product development program is quite successful. This is proven by the results of interviews regarding the level of participants' understanding of the techniques for processing and packaging designs for Vegetable Hummingbird Wedang Uwuh. The commitment of local SME actors also supports the goals of sustainable development or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

Ineffective waste management in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, coupled with weak community involvement, has led to protests and the closure of the Integrated Waste Management Facility (TPST). The government is actively seeking solutions by allocating specific land, fostering interregional cooperation, and providing waste sorting facilities for the public. However, waste management appears to be trapped in a vicious cycle due to the neglect of the community's role as a key stakeholder. This article bridges the gap between circular economy knowledge and waste management practices through youth involvement. The Youth Studies Center at Gadjah Mada University collaborates with entities such as Bank Sampah Tinalan, Daur Resik, Sawo Kecik, and DNVB Indonesia, engaging students from SMP Negeri 9 and SMA Negeri 5 in Yogyakarta in a campaign titled "Pilah.id." Using the action research method supported by the UGM DPkM 2021/2022 Community Service Grant, this program engages students from SMPN 9 and SMAN 5 Yogyakarta in self-managing waste. Post-action research surveys revealed that 85.7% of students actively engage in waste management after participating in the Pilah.id program, with 75% of them not utilizing local waste banks. While participants demonstrate a strong understanding of waste sorting, their involvement in local waste banks remains limited, highlighting the need for increased support and capacity building for these local waste banks.

Abstract

Disposable baby diaper waste causes water and soil pollution when disposed in rivers, drains, streets, ground, and other places. This condition is triggered by the lack of awareness of disposable baby diaper waste management by the community, especially youngmothers who have toddlers. An appropriate solution is needed to overcome this problem and reduce the negative impact on the environment. This activity aims to introduce a waste management approach and determine the impact of the introduction of the approach in overcoming the waste problem at Tanjungrejo Village river, Madiun District, Madiun Regency, East Java Province. The research applied a qualitative method with observation and interview approach. The research sample was selected by using a purposive sampling method. Based on observations, each mother mostly threw two or three disposable baby diapers used by toddlers at landfills. Many mothers still do not know how to reduce the growing amount of disposable baby diaper waste. Media posters, presentation slides, and demonstrations of the process of making pots and ornamental plant media were carried out in the implementation of the socialization on July 2023 at the Tanjungrejo Village Head Office. Through this socialization, all mothers who have been interviewed express interest in trying and practicing the process of disposable baby diaper waste into pots and ornamental plant media. Therefore, this socialization activity can be a breakthrough innovation in the form of utilizing disposable babydiaper waste into pots and ornamental plant media.

Abstract

One of the main diseases in the adult population in Indonesia is metabolic disorders. Metabolic syndrome is a group of several metabolic disorders such as central obesity, high blood pressure, glucose intolerance, and abnormal amounts of fat in the blood (dyslipidemia) which can potentially cause various degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metabolic syndrome in Indonesia still ranks the highest for the state financial burden with such high mortality and morbidity rates. One of the steps commonly used for initial diagnosis and screening for metabolic syndrome is through Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) and Integrated Health Service Posts (Posyandu). This applied research regarding the empowerment of elderly posyandu presents descriptive data regarding the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Iroyudan District, provides an evaluation of various risk factors related to metabolic syndrome, especially in the elderly population of Iroyudan District, and provides interventions and impacts to increase the screening capacity at elderly posyandu in Iroyudan District. Based on the research results, demographic data was obtained for the elderly in Iroyudan District regarding several metabolic syndrome screening indicators, namely the abdominal circumference indicator (central obesity) with a total of 31.25% in the elderly population with details of elderly women at 45.4% (n=15) and 0 % in elderly men (n=0); total blood pressure (hypertension) indicators were 68.7% in the elderly population with the details of elderly women at 63.6% (n=21) and 80% among elderly men (n=12); and the blood sugar indicator when above 200 mg/dL was a total of 16.6% in the elderly population with the details of elderly women at 18.1% (n=6) and 13.33% among elderly men (n=2). The total prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the elderly population of Iroyudan District was 8.3% (n=4). Based on this research data and results, it is necessary to increase screening and early detection of metabolic syndrome, one of the strategies is by through empowering elderly posyandu by increasing the knowledge and skills of health cadres, ensuring the quantity and quality of health examination tools, as well as increasing the number of health cadres adjusted to the total population.
