Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is aimed to know the changes classification of topogenous peat soil that increased intopaddy field and be converted into arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) and horticulture farm begin fromOrder class, Sub Order, Great Group unto Sub Group class. This research was conducted in DesaHutabagasan, Kecamatan Doloksanggul, Kabupaten Humbang Hasundutan and soil analyseproperties was held in Chemical and Soil fertility Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty of NorthSumatera University. Observation and description of three profiles of each three difference landuses such as paddy field (P1), arabica coffe farm (P2) and horticulture farm (P3). Each profile isobserved about morphology and than classificatied in Soil Taxonomy (2010) begin from Orderclass, Sub Order, Great Group unto Sub Group class. From research result indicate that the landconversion didn’t change soil classification in Desa Hutabagasan, Kecamatan Doloksanggul,Kabupaten Humbang Hasundutan. The Topogenous peat soil in this area have soil classificationTypic Haplosaprist.Keywords: peat soil, land conversion, paddy soil

Abstract

ABSTRACTGrowth of Cocoa Seedlings (Theobroma cacao.L) In Media Ultisol Subsoil with FertilizerProvision NPKMg(15:15:6:4) and Manure. This research aims to determine the effect of manureand fertilizier NPKMg(15:15:6:4) on the growth of cocoa (Theobroma cacao.L) in media landultisol subsoil. Research carried out in field trials USU Faculty of Agriculture, Medan with altitudeof about 25 meters above sea level at the beginning of November until March 2012. Experimentalmethod use is a randomized block design with two treatment factor. Planting media as the firstfactor with five standard treatment that is 0% Manure + 100% Ultisol Subsoil, 25% Manure + 75%Ultisol Subsoil, 50% Manure + 50% Ultisol Subsoil, 75% Manure + 25% Ultisol Subsoil, 100%Manure + 0% Ultisol Subsoil and fertilizer NPKMg(15:15:6:4) as the second factor with four levelis 0 g/polibag, 4 g/polibag, 8 g/polibag and 12 g/polibag with 3 replications. Parameter wereobserved at high parameters of shoots, girth, number of leaves, the aweight of wet canopy, wetweight of roots, canopy dry weight, and root dry weight. The results that 75% Manure + 25%Ultisol Subsoil showed the best results at high parameters of shoots, girth, number of leaves, theaweight of wet canopy, wet weight of roots, canopy dry weight, and root dry weight. NPKMgfertilizier(15:15:6:4) in this study showed significant results in all parameters, but obtained at thehighest treatment level 8 g/polibag and 12 g/polibag. Abstract

Index of Insect Varieties on Tobacco Plant (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) at Kebun Helvetia, PTPNusantara II. Deli tobacco is a strategic commodity in Indonesia. Especially used to cigar wrapper(most quality) that make job vacancy and increase people prosperity. Pests and plant diseases intobacco plant was the most problem each cultivating season. By knowing insect status in tobaccoarea hoped can do preventative on next cultivating season. The objective of this research was tostudy index of insect varieties in the tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabaccum L.) at Kebun Helvetia withwas to know kind of usefull insect, useless insect, parasitoid and predator in that area. Researchconducted at Kebun Helvetia PT Nusantara II, Medan on May – June 2012, using design surveiwith take diagonally which first sample was taken in the middle of sample block. The result ofresearch showed that in Block D was consist of 15 useless insect family, 2 parasitoid family, 7predator family and 6 usefull insect family. Block E area consist of 15 useless insect family, 3parasitoid family, 8 predator family, and 8 usefull insect familiy. Shanon-Weiner (H’) highestIndex varieties value of insect highest in Block E area is 2.3486 (medium) that meaning natural andpest insect existence was balance nearly.Keywords : index of varieties, insect in tobacco, tobacco.

Abstract

Liquid Waste of Oil Palm Factory contains nutrients which are required by plants and it can beapplied to the estate crops. This research evaluate the palm oil factory soil chemical applied byliquid waste of oil palm factory at PT Smart Padang Halaban Plantation at Labuhan Batu UtaraDistrict. Soil sampel by using soil sampling method at three different location of research namelycontrol, sela and rorak aplications, six deepness level and three times replicates. Parameters thatmeasured are pH, C, N, C/N and absorption P of plant. Statistical test that used is determined flatvalue and criteria characteristic of soil. The result of research showed they increasing ofcharacteristic chemistry which are apllicated by liquid waste of oil palm factor. Parameters whichexperience increasing is pH, C, N, C/N and absorption P of plant.Keywords : evaluation, characteristics chemistry of soil, liquid waste of oil palm

Abstract

The Effect of Phosphor Application and Harvesting Time to Growth and Production of IndianPennywort (Centella asiatica (L.) Urb.). Indian Pennywort has long been used as traditionalmedicine and potential to be expanded. Until now Indian Pennywort harvested from natural, then it istime to cultivated to supply the needs of medicine industry that continues to increase. One that can bedone to obtain the raw materials with good quality and sustainable is the use of phosphor which canincrease the content of bioactive compounds of Centella asiatica and proper harvesting time. Thisresearch is aim to find out the effect of phosphor application and harvesting time to growth andproduction of Indian Pennywort at Syahmad village, Lubuk Pakam Sub-district, Deli Serdangregency about 11 m above sea level on January – July 2012 by using Randomized Block Design forgrowth variable which phosphor application as single factor with 9 blocks and for component ofbiomass production variable used by Split Plot Design with factors, they are harvesting time as themain plot (8,10,12 weeks) dan phosphor application as the sub plot (0,18,36,54 kg P2O5/ha). Theparameters observed were leave number, number of stolon, fresh weight per sample and per plot, dryweight per sample and per plot. The results showed that phosphor application and harvesting timenot showed significant effects on any parameters. Interaction between phosphor application andharvesting time not showed significant effects on any parameters.Keywords : phosphor application, harvesting time, Centella asiatica

Abstract

Antagonism test between mutated type of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp passiflora against wild type ofFusarium oxysporum f.sp passiflora in laboratory. This research aims to determine antagonismpotentiality from mutated type of F. oxysporum f.sp. passiflora against wild type of F. oxysporumf.sp. passiflora. The research was conducted at Plant Disease Laboratory, AgroecotechnologyProgram Study, Faculty of Agriculture University of Sumatera Utara, Medan from September toNovember 2012. The research was done by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) NonFactorial with ten treatments and three replications. The result showed that the highest percentageof inhibiting zones contained in 60 minutes ulta violet (UV) irradiated isolate (M9) at 54.45% andthe lowest were in without UV irradiated isolate (M0) at 39.27%, highest extensive growth ofmycelium from wild F. oxysporum was founded at 60 minutes UV irradiated isolate (M9) at 35.05cm2 and the lowest were 12 minutes UV irradiated (M5) at 25.36 cm2. The highest colony diameterwas founded at 60 minutes UV irradiated isolate (M9) at 5.53 cm and the lowest were 12 minutesUV irradiated (M5) at 4.67 cm.Keywords : Fusarium oxysporum f.sp passiflora, antagonism, UV irradiation

Abstract

Growth Response and Production of Shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.) Kuning Variety WithApplication of Vermicompost and NPK Fertilizer, supervised by B. Sengli J. Damanik andJonatan Ginting. The research was conducted at Pasar 1 street Tanjung Sari, began Juny untilAugust 2012, by using a Randomized Block Design with two factors. First factor is Vermicompostdoses that is 0, 10, 20, and 30 g/plant, the second factor NPK fertilize (16:16:16) doses that is 0;14,1; 28,2; 42,3 and 56,4 g/plot (1m2). The parameters observed were plant height, tiller number,leaf number, fresh weight bulb per sample, dry weight bulb per sample, fresh weight bulb per plot,dry weight bulb per plot,and clove number per sample. The results showed that the treatment ofvermicompost had no significant effects on all parameters observed. The NPK fertilize significantlyinfluenced on dry weight per plot.Key words : vermicompost, NPK, shallot

Abstract

Paclobutrazol Application Study on Balance the Growth of Three Varieties of Peanuts(Arachis hypogaea L.). This study aimed to learn effect of paclobutrazol application ongrowth of three varieties of peanuts. The research was conducted at Tanjung Sari, Medan (±25 m above sea level) from June – October 2012 used randomized block design. The firstfactor was the paclobutrazol concentration with 4 level were 0, 100, 200 and 300 ppm and thesecond factor was three varieties were Gajah, Bima and Domba with 3 replication. Parameterwere plant length, number of productive branch, flowering time, harvest time, ginofornumber formed per sample, number of pod contains, seed weight per sample and weight of100 seeds. The results showed that paclobutrazol significant of plant length 7-9 week afterplant. Variety significant of plant length 2-9 weeks after plant, number of productive branchat 5-9 weeks after plant, flowering time, harvest time, ginofor number formed per sample,weight of 100 seeds, but not significant to number of pod contain and seed weight persample. Whereas, interaction between paclobutrazol and varieties only significant to reducenumber of empty pods.Keywords: peanuts, paclobutrazol, varieties

Abstract

Isolation of fungi Oncobasidium theobromae P.H.B Talbot and Keane cause disease VascularStreak Dieback (VSD) on cocoa plants in the laboratory. The research aims to isolateO. theobromae cause Vascular Streak Dieback (VSD) disease on cocoa in the Laboratory. Theresearch was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Desease Faculty of Agriculture, University ofSumatra Utara.. The research results showed that O. theobromae has a mycelium shaped like cottonand thick white cream, thin walled hyphae, hyaline, with irregular septa, spores an oval with oneflat side, 10-15μm in length and width of 8-10μm.Keywords: Vascular Streak Dieback, Oncobasidium theobromae, cocoa

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the interaction effects of Silicate and Mycorrhizaapplication to Andisol on the phosphorus and maize growth. The experiment was conducted at thescreen house, at Laboratory of Chemistry and Soil Fertility, and Research and TechnologyLaboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatera, Medan from July until December2012 . Andisol soil was taken from horticultural farms at Kuta Rakyat Village, Naman Teran Subdistrict, Karo District. The design used was Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 3 replicationand 2 (two) factors, namely Silicate (Si) consists which of 5 level: Si0(control), Si1(0.89 g/4 kg soil)Si2(1.78 g/4 kg of soil), Si3(2.67 g/4 kg soil), Si4(3.56 g/4 kg soil) and Mycorrhiza factor (Mi),which consists of three levels, that is: Mi0 (0 g/4 kg soil), Mi1(15 g/4 kg soil) Mi2(30 g /4 kg soil)and 3(three) replication to meet 45 experimental units. The results of this research showed thatapplication of Silicate on Andisol without mycorrhizal and higher dosage did not increase Pabsorptionand corn growth, while Silicate application at medium dosage (15 g/4 kg soil) increasedP-Available, P-absorption and corn growthKeywords: andisols, silicate, mycorrhiza and P-available
