Abstract

The research was conducted at Screen house Experiment Berastagi at ± 1340 m asl from April untilJuly 2013 using split plot design with main plot, i.e. organic liquid fertilizer concentration (0, 2, 4,and 6 mL/L) and sub plot is tuber weight difference (≤ 3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 g). Parameter observedwere plant height, duration of green leaves, tuber weight per plant, weight tuber per plot, and tubergrade percentage.The result showed organic liquid fertilizer treatment significantly defend thechlorophyll leaves (duration of green leaves). Tuber weight difference treatment significantlyincrease plant height, main stem number, tuber number per plant, weight tuber per plot and tubergrade percentage on 10,1 – 20 g. The interaction of two factor significantly increase tuber gradepercentage on ≤ 5 g. The best result was showed by organic liquid fertilizer concentration 6 mL/Land tuber weight 9-12 g.________________________________________________________________________________Keywords : weight tuber, organic liquid fertilizer, potatoes tuber

Abstract

This research aims to obtain the best fruit ripeness, seed drying and the effect of removal ofsarcotesta on germination of papaya seed, variety Callina. This experiment was conducted in theSeed Technology Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, University of Sumatera Utara during July-September 2013, A factorial randomized block design with 3 factors and 3 replications was used.The factors were fruit ripening (0, 2, 4 days), seed drying (0, 1, 2) days and removal of sarcotesta.Variables observed were germination rate (%/etmal), total germination (%), normal seedlingpercentage (%), seedling fresh weight (g), height of sprout (cm), and peak value of germination(%/day). The results showed that ripening increased rate of germination, total germination, normalseedling percentage, seedling fresh weight and peak value. Interaction between ripening and seeddrying increased height of sprout. The highest germination was obtained for treatments of withoutfruit ripening, without seed drying, and without sarcotesta.Keywords : papaya, ripening, seed drying, sarcotesta.

Abstract

One of the determining factors of water supply for oil palm which does not use irigation system israin fall. Water supply is the main factor that cope production rate of oil palm. Water supply for oilpalm in field is obtained from rain fall. This research is done in PT.PP London Sumatra Indonesia,Tbk Begerpang Estate plantations, North Sumatera Province, Medan from June to September 2013.This research used secondary data available in company administration. Secondary data for analysisneed consists of component production data as total bunches, average bunches weight, total ofproductive trees, loose fruit weight; production of fresh fruit bunch (FFB); rain fall data and rainday monthly in 2008, 2009 and 2010 on 6 divisions. Analysis method used is double linierregression and correlation analysis. Model tested by classic asumption consists of normality test,heteroskedasticity test, multicollinearity, and autocorellations test by using statistic softwareSPSS.v.17 for windows. The regression analysis shows that rain fall and rain day variables havesignificant influence with alpha 5% (Sig < α 0,05) in FFB production aged 5 years. F-value is5,235 with significant level 0,031. Coeffisien determination obtained is 53,8%. It means 53,8%variance of FFB production can be explained by variables used in this research and the rest 46,2% isexplained by other variables which are excluded. Linier regression model on 5 years is Y = 145,982+ 1,451 rain fall – 27,005 rain day + E. Corelation result on 5, 10 and 15 years with two-tailedanalysis with significant level 1% shows that rain fall and rain day have tight, significant, and samedirection relationship. Corelation value of rain fall and rain day are 0,892; 0,887; and 0,855 eachwith significant level 0,000 (Sig < α 0,01).Keywords: rain fall, rain day, FFB production.

Abstract

The Application of Zeolite and Potassium Fertilizer to Increase The Avaibility of PotassiumNutrient and Soy Growth in Entisols. Suvervised by Hamidah Hanum and Gantar Sitanggang.Theobjective of this research were: 1) determined of zeolite dosage that improved the soil chemistryproperties, 2) determinated zeolite and potassium fertilizer dosage that effected the avaibility ofpotassium and the soy growth in Entisols. The research consisted of two experiment, the first onewas the experiment of zeolite incubation, and second one was the experiment of zeolit andpotasium fertilizer. The design experiment of the first research was completely randomized designand the second one was block randomized design- factorial. The result showed that in the firstexperiment, zeolite wich incubation until 7.5 ton/hectare incerease CEC significanly, but didn’teffect the soil pH and K-exchangable. Besed the second experiment, it was know that theinteraction effect of zeolit and potasium fertilizer aplication increased potassium nutrient the plant,which the best treatment was zeolite aplication 5 ton/ hectare and potasium fertilizer 150 kg/hectare.Key words: : Entisols, Zeolite, KCl, soy growth

Abstract

Rotua Maryance Gultom, “The Influenced some Insecticide on Soybean (Glycine max (L) Merril.)Pest Lamprosema indicata F. and Spodoptera litura F. in the field”. The objectives of the researchwere to study the effect of some Insecticide to Soybean (Glycine max (L) Merril.) pest Lamprosemaindicata F. dan Spodoptera litura F. The research was held at Telaga Sari Village, DevelopmentTanjung Morawa, Medan, North Sumatera from July until September 2013. The method used NonFactorial Randomized Group Design, consist of 7 treatments and 3 repetable that is control, papayaseed, indian mulberry seed seed, mahogany seed, Bacillus thuringiensis, Beauveriabassiana, and dimetoat. The results showed that the observated in 43 days after growth, dimetoatinsecticide and papaya seed insecticide effectived aplicable to Lamprosema indicata F. (12.98%)and (23.37%), with total larvae 1.34 dan 1.44. but for Spodoptera litura F. mahogany seedinsecticide is effectived (29.42%).Keywords : Soybean, Lamprosema indicata, Spodoptera litura

Abstract

NPK soil on oil palm produce plantation with increase diversity of vegetation. Soil fertility level onthe oil palm produce will be decreased, because there is no vegetation. Therefore, one the effort toincrease the soil productivity with planting of vegetation diversity under oil palm trees. Theresearch aimed to know NPK soil on oil palm produce plantation with increase diversity ofvegetation. The research was carried out in the PTPN III Kebun Bangun Simalungun regency,North Sumatera from September to Desember 2013. The experiment design was non factorialCompletely Randomized Design with 5 levels intercrop compotition, Arachis glabrata 100%,Stenotaphrum secundatum 100%, Arachis glabrata 50% + Stenotaphrum secundatum 50%, Arachisglabrata 75% + Stenotaphrum secundatum 25% dan Arachis glabrata 25% + Stenotaphrumsecundatum 75%. The analysis of data using the analysis variance and continued by DMRT. Theresults of this research showed that diversity compotitions intercrops given significant effect on thefresh weight leaf of Stenotaphrum secundatum 100%, the dry weight leaf of Stenotaphrumsecundatum 100%, the fresh weight root of Arachis glabrata 75%, the dry weight root of Arachisglabrata 75% and could increased the levels of soil phosphorus, but not significant effect on the oilpalm leaf chlorophyll, the intercrops leaf chlorophyll, the levels of soil nitrogen and potassium.Keywords: Intercrops, NPK soil, leaf chlorophyll

Abstract

Development of sweet corn culture technique need efficient of farming system, more economical,quality, and productivity. For this reason, research has been conducted at experimental field of USUAgriculture Faculty (± 25 m asl.) in July – October 2013 using a randomized block design with twofactors. The first factor was concentrations of microorganism with levels: 0, 10, 20, and 30 ml/l ofwater, were the second factor was doses of Empty Fruit Bunches Oil Palm (EFBOP) compost withlevels: 0, 150, and 300 g per plant with three replications. The result of this research showed thatapplication of microorganism had significant effect on plant height at six’th weeks after planting(WAP), cob with husk per plant, and cob without husk per plant. Empty fruit bunches oil palmcompost significant effect only for stem diameter. Interaction between application microorganismand EFBOP compost significant effect on cob length and cob diameter.Keywords : sweet corn, beneficial microorganisms, EFBOP compost

Abstract

Weed seeds in the soil per hectare can reach millions of amount and consists of many differentspecies. The depth of the weed seeds can be used as indicator of competitive level between crop andweeds. The research aims to determine the composition and density of seed bank at various level ofsoil depths at “ Balai Benih Palawija ” Tanjung Selamat North Sumatra. Soil Samples warecollected from four soil depths, namely: 0-5 cm, 5-10 cm, 10-15 cm,15-20 cm using metal pipe withdiameter of 3 cm. The parameters measured were the number of weeds that grow by the depth ofsoil, weed composition (%) per depth of soil and weeds growing time per depth of soil.From resultshowed that the highest density of weed seed bank is found at the depth of 0 – 5 cm. Weedcomposition dominated ( 68.9 % ) by broadleaf weeds. There are differences in the composition anddensity of the real seed bank at different depths in the soil in the field area of Balai Benih IndukTanjung Selamat. Composition and density of weed tends to be lower in deeper soil depths.Keywords: seed bank, depth of soil and crops planting area

Abstract

The effect of grain texture on several comodities to adult of Sitophilus oryzae L. (Coleoptera:Curculionidae) in laboratory” supervised by Syahrial Oemry and Yuswani Pengestiningsih. Thisreseach aims to know the effect of grain texture on several comodities to adult of S. oryzae. Thiswas done in Laboratory of Perum Bulog Kantor Divre SUMUT Medan since January untill March2013. The method of this research was Completely Randomized Design Non Factorial with eighttreatments and three replicants.The results showed that treatment of P5 , P7 , P1 , P3 at 165.33 ,163.33 , 150.00 , 78.67 tail, in the treatment greatly affect breeding S. oryzae . Whereas the finetexture of flour showed a decrease in population size in the treatment P2, P4, P6, and P8 at 8.33,8.33, 10.00, 10.00 tail . Texture on the surface of each type of feed greatly affects the proliferationof pests powder S. oryzae .Keywords:Texture of media, S. oryzae.

Abstract

The objective of this research are to survey and to map the nutrients which is nitrogen (N),phosphate (P), and potassium (K) and the soil pH of rain fed lowland in Desa Durian KecamatanPantai Labu. The soil analysis was conducted in Research and Technology Laboratory inAgricultural Faculty of North Sumatra University on July – November 2013. The researchconducted the survey grid method semi-detailed lavel with 1 sample each 250 meter observationdensity. For the nutrient the researcher used Khejdhal method for soil total nitrogen, Extraction HCl25% for soil Potential phosphate, extraction 1 N NH4OAc pH 7 for soil potassium exchange, forsoil pH the researcher used electrometric method, and the result will be interpreted on nutrientstatus map. The result showed that total nitrogen is classified into two status, low nitrogen (582,048Ha) and medium nitrogen (167,952 Ha). Potential phosphate is classified into very low status (750Ha). And potassium exchange is classified into three status, medium potassium (137,202 Ha), highpotassium (515,303 Ha) and very high potassium (97,495 Ha). Soil pH classified into aciditytendency.Key Words: Soil survey, nutrient status mapping, rain fed lowland.
