Abstract

Background: The increasing prevalence of obesity in adolescents is a worrying public health problem, especially in urban and semi-urban areas. One of the main risk factors suspected to contribute is the consumption pattern of fast food that is high in calories and low in nutritional value. This study aims to analyze the relationship between fast food consumption patterns and the incidence of obesity in adolescents in Praya City, Central Lombok. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. A sample of 150 adolescents aged 13–18 years was selected purposively from several high schools in Praya City. Data were collected through questionnaires regarding the frequency and type of fast food consumed, as well as body mass index (BMI) measurements to determine obesity status. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test and logistic regression. Results: The results of the analysis showed a significant relationship between the frequency of fast food consumption and the incidence of obesity in adolescents (p < 0.05). Adolescents who consume fast food more than three times a week have a 2.8 times higher risk of obesity compared to those who rarely consume it. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between fast food consumption patterns and the incidence of obesity in adolescents in Praya City. Nutrition education and promotion of healthy eating patterns need to be improved to reduce the risk of obesity among adolescents.

Abstract

Air pollution has become a critical environmental issue, particularly in densely populated urban areas, where high levels of emissions from transportation, industry, and household activities contribute to deteriorating air quality. This study aims to analyze the impact of air pollution on the respiratory health of urban populations. By combining quantitative data from air quality monitoring stations with qualitative data obtained through health surveys and medical records, this research identifies significant correlations between exposure to pollutants—such as PM2.5, NO₂, and SO₂—and the incidence of respiratory diseases including asthma, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The findings indicate that prolonged exposure to poor air quality substantially increases the risk of respiratory issues, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing conditions. This study highlights the urgent need for effective environmental policies and public health interventions to mitigate the negative health impacts of urban air pollution

Abstract

The Posyandu program is one of the government's strategic efforts to improve public health, especially toddlers, through community-based basic health services. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Posyandu program in improving the nutritional status of toddlers in remote areas. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. Data were collected through a survey of 120 mothers of toddlers who actively participated in Posyandu activities in three remote villages. Nutritional status parameters were measured based on anthropometric indicators (weight for age, height for age, and weight for height) before and after the program intervention for six months. The results showed a significant increase in the nutritional status of toddlers after participating in the Posyandu program routinely, with a decrease in the prevalence of undernourished toddlers from 27% to 15%. Factors that contributed to the success of the program included the active involvement of cadres, the availability of additional food, and targeted nutritional counseling. This study concluded that the Posyandu program was effective in improving the nutritional status of toddlers in remote areas, although strengthening in terms of facilities, cadre training, and program continuity was still needed.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period in individual development, where lifestyle habits begin to form and can have long-term impacts on health. This study aims to analyze the effect of a healthy lifestyle on metabolic health in adolescents. A healthy lifestyle in this study includes a balanced diet, regular physical activity, good sleep quality, and avoidance of smoking and alcohol consumption. The research method used was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach, involving 300 adolescent respondents aged 13–18 years in urban areas. Data were collected through questionnaires and examination of metabolic parameters such as body mass index (BMI), fasting blood glucose levels, blood pressure, and lipid profiles. The results of the analysis showed that adolescents with a healthy lifestyle had a significantly better metabolic profile compared to adolescents with an unhealthy lifestyle (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the implementation of a healthy lifestyle plays an important role in maintaining metabolic health and preventing the risk of non-communicable diseases in the future. Therefore, early lifestyle interventions need to be encouraged through health education and conducive environmental support.

Abstract

The problem of household waste management in densely populated areas is a crucial issue that has a direct impact on environmental and public health. This study aims to analyze the relationship between household waste management systems and environmental health conditions in Kekalik Jaya Village, Mataram City. The study used a quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through field observations, questionnaires, and interviews with 100 heads of families selected by purposive sampling. The results showed that most households (65%) had not implemented waste sorting, and 42% still disposed of waste in inappropriate places, such as gutters or empty land. This condition was significantly correlated with the high incidence of environmental-based diseases such as diarrhea, ARI, and skin diseases. In addition, the lack of environmental education and limited waste management facilities also worsened the quality of environmental health in the area. This study recommends the need for policy interventions and community empowerment programs in more effective and sustainable waste management.
