Abstract

Hamzah Fansuri, one of the earliest Malay Sufi poets, represents a significant intellectual and spiritual synthesis in the history of Islamic thought in the Malay Archipelago. His poetry, infused with metaphysical symbolism and Sufistic language, serves as a reflection of the deep assimilation of Islamic mysticism into local cultural and linguistic contexts. This study aims to analyze the mystical dimensions and intellectual foundations of Hamzah Fansuri’s works to understand their role in shaping early Islamic intellectualism in Southeast Asia. A qualitative textual analysis was employed, focusing on hermeneutic interpretation and semiotic examination of selected verses from his syair and rubaiyat. The findings reveal that Hamzah Fansuri’s writings embody the principles of wahdat al-wujud (unity of existence), while simultaneously integrating Malay linguistic aesthetics and metaphors of maritime culture. His intellectualism is marked by a synthesis between Islamic metaphysics, local cosmology, and poetic expression. The research concludes that Hamzah Fansuri’s mystical poetry not only symbolizes the indigenization of Islamic thought but also represents an early articulation of philosophical discourse in the Malay literary tradition. The study reaffirms his position as a foundational figure in bridging Islamic intellectualism and cultural creativity in the region.

Abstract

The community of believers in the One Almighty God in Indonesia has undergone significant transformation, especially after the legal recognition through the Constitutional Court ruling in 2017. This transformation not only covers social, cultural, and economic aspects, but also involves changes in the structure of collective identity and negotiation of their position amidst the dominance of the majority religion. This article analyzes the transformation process through a sociological approach, referring to the theories of functionalism, social conflict, and symbolic interaction. The main focus includes identity dynamics, social interaction patterns, integration challenges, and the role of belief organizations in preserving local traditions while adapting to modern norms. This analysis also highlights how legal recognition has opened up space for believers to strengthen their position in society, although challenges such as social stigma and marginalization are still faced. This transformation, ultimately, reflects efforts to create social harmony and maintain diversity in a pluralistic Indonesian society.

Abstract

Feminism was born out of women's dissatisfaction with men's oppressive attitudes and marginalizing their roles. They demand equality of treatment, demand recognition of their role in family life, and even more so in various sectors of community life. Feminism, which was originally sectoral in nature, has become a movement and globalized to all corners of the world, including the Islamic world. Information technology has a bearing on the spread of feminism issues throughout the world so as to influence the mindset of society, including Islamic society. Feminist struggles in many cases contradict Islamic values. The task of Islamic da'wah in this case is to straighten out their thinking. Muslim da'wah is the most appropriate da'wah element to answer the issues of feminism. The issue of feminism and the role of Muslim da'wah in countering feminism raises at least two questions, namely how feminism and their struggle actually became a global movement and how Muslim da'wah answers the global challenges of the feminism movement. To answer these questions, researchers used a qualitative research method using a literature approach. Data analysis is focused on the transformation of Muslim da'wah in facing the global issue of feminism movement. The result is that the issue of feminism spreads throughout the world including the Islamic world following the development of modernization and information technology. In response to this, Muslim da'wah must be able to transform by using information technology as a manifestation of da'wah bil hikmah. The development of da'wah methods today favors the use of audio visuals on digital and online media. The use of audio visual media can be done by combining the methods of bil lisan, bil qalam and bil hal.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics and civilization of Islam in the Nusantara with a focus on intercultural interactions that shape the social and cultural structures in this region. Islam, which came through trade and da'wah routes, played an important role in shaping civilization in the Nusantara through the exchange of science, technology, and adaptation of local culture. The great contribution of Muslim scientists in the fields of mathematics, medicine, and philosophy also influenced the development of science in the Nusantara. Meanwhile, cultural interactions between Islam and local cultures resulted in acculturation that enriched the heritage of Nusantara arts and culture, such as performing arts and gamelan music. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature study methods and historical analysis to explore how Islamic civilization adapted and developed in the Nusantara, and how it influenced local social, legal, and cultural structures. In conclusion, Islamic civilization in the Nusantara is not only limited to religious aspects, but also includes social, economic, and cultural fields that are interrelated and shape the identity of the Muslim community in the Nusantara.

Abstract

Global Islamic discourse is dominated by Middle Eastern centrism. Indonesia promotes Islam Nusantara (Archipelagic Islam), emphasizing moderation and syncretism (adat), aiming to be a global counter-model for reconciling faith, democracy, and modernity. This study aimed to analyze the strategic efficacy and global reception of Islam Nusantara among Middle Eastern religious elites and Western policymakers, addressing the critical Theological-Policy Translation Gap hindering its soft power projection. A qualitative, comparative multi-site case study (N=25 elite informants) was conducted, including Indonesian propagators, Salafi critics, and integration experts. Data were gathered via interviews and analyzed using a Policy Translation Matrix. The campaign is severely constrained by the Translation Gap. Middle Eastern elites rejected the concept based on Theological Purity (bid’ah). Western policymakers marginalized it due to a lack of Policy Utility and secular framing, proving the uniform message failed to satisfy opposing filters. The findings mandate an urgent dual-track communication strategy. The study’s contribution is a novel Global Policy Strategy for Contextual Islam that requires focusing on rigorous Arabic fiqh scholarship for the East and pragmatic, secular policy framing for the West.
