Abstract

Eleganaboi was a traditional ceremony in Luro society which contained essential elements of local wisdom. This study aimed to investigating the values of guidance and counseling in Eleganaboi. To investigate the values of guidance and counseling, we use phenomenology qualitative descriptive method. To collect the data, we implemented observation and interview. The observations were carried out during a cultural ceremony in the Luro community. Furthermore, interview was conducted on four traditional leaders. Edicts and transcendental reduction were used to analyze data. The results show eleven fundamental values of guidance and counseling in Eleganaboi. Those values are: gratitude; genuine; humble; honest; discipline; coherent; respect; care; trust; inclusive and togetherness. The community utilized Eleganaboi as a method to guide and counsel each member, including who faced problems in their life.

Abstract

The general objective of the study is to describe the needs of junior high school counselor toward CER-based socio-personal guidance service in order to improve the virtue of junior high school students. During the conduct of the study, the researcher implemented the survey design in order to attain the description data. The results of the study show that the counselors need CER-based media for improving the virtue of the junior high school students. Therefore, the counselor should search, find, create and even design the CER-based service media.

Abstract

The particular study aimed to determine the differences performance between school counselors in organizing individual counseling services in schools in terms of educational background and work experience. The research approach was descriptive survey through a descriptive comparative study design. The subjects were school counselor in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, especially at Bantul Regency. The data analysis technique used two way ANOVA. Based on the statistical tests, the educational background and work experience did not significantly affect the performance of school counselors in providing individual counseling services in schools.

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that irrational beliefs contribute significantly to the procrastination, including the thesis-writing procrastination. Unfortunately, there are no scales that specifically can measure the beliefs in the thesis writing context. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate a scale called the Skala Keyakinan Irasional dalam Penyusunan Skripsi (SKI-S). The scale was developed based on irrational belief construct proposed by Albert Ellis in the context of thesis writing. To achieve the aim, the study applied a research and development design involving four steps: (1) defining the construct; (2) developing the measurement model; (3) carrying out confirmatory factor analysis; and (4) checking the validity of the measurement model. 200 undergraduate students taking their 9th to 14th semester were involved in the study. 86 items were successfully validated which were classified into demandingness subscale (16 items); catastrophizing subscale (20 items); self-depreciation subscale (17 items); and low frustration tolerance subscales (20 items).

Abstract

Empathic skills encourage an individual to look into the problems more clearly and objectively. Without empathy, it is difficult to know what others are experiencing because it is not possible to feel and understand the conditions of others. The particular study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Karpman drama triangle technique to increase junior high school students’ empathy skill. The research subjects were six students of eighth grade in Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Turen, Malang. The particular research was Quasi-Experiment using the pretest and posttest design. The instruments were student empathy scale; experimental guidelines; and observation guidelines. The study showed that Karpman drama triangle technique was effective to increase junior high school students’ empathy skill.
