Abstract

Emotion regulation is an important variable to support students’ optimal development. Students with high emotion regulation tend to minimize their aggressive behavior. However, some students have difficulty in regulating their emotions. Previous studies show that attachment and self-esteem influence emotion regulation. This study aims to examine the effect of the two variables on emotion regulation of students. 150 randomly selected students were involved in the study. Multiple linear regression was applied to analyze the research data. The results showed that there was a significant effect of attachments and self-esteem on emotion regulation. Attachment and self-esteem influence emotion regulation by 76.3% while other variables influence it by the remaining 23.7%. The result can be used as a basis for constructing guidance and counseling services that involve attachment and self-esteem to improve the emotion regulation of students.

This study aims to investigate the effect of assertive training on interpersonal communication and peer conformity of junior high school students. 12 eighth graders of Junior High School Muhammadiyah 2 Mlati Yogyakarta were involved in the study. The study applied a Quasi Experimental approach with non-equivalent-groups pretest-posttest design. To gather research data, the study used Interpersonal Communication and Peer Conformity Scales. The result shows that assertive training is effective to increase interpersonal communication and to decrease the level of peer conformity. Based on the result, the next study needs to compare the effect of assertive training and other behavioral techniques on the two variables.

Abstract

Career exploration is the acquisition of career information that results in the formation of career maturity. This study aims to explain the role of internal factors that drive career exploration behavior. Specifically, the study examines the role of career decision self-efficacy in mediating the effect of planned happenstance skills on career exploration behavior. The study applied correlational design with regression analysis. 414 male and 394 female students from vocational high schools in Jakarta were chosen purposively to participate in the study. The Career Exploration Survey, The Planned Happenstance Skill Inventory, and The Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form were used to collect research data. The results show that the effect of planned happenstance skills on student career exploration behavior was partially mediated by career decision self-efficacy. This indicates that the development of the ability to take advantage of certain events can form career related behaviors. Based on the results, it is recommended for school counselors to train students with planned happenstance skills while conducting career counseling in order to develop their career readiness optimally

Abstract

This study uses a medical center in Taiwan as an example to analyze medical staff’s emotional exhaustion by independent sample t test and analysis of variance. Eight out of ten demographic variables are considered as essential variables to influence emotional exhaustion excluding respondents reporting events in the past 12 months and job status. The results show that female employees and employees who are not supervisors/managers tend to have higher burnout. Employees whose ages are 21–30, 31–40, and 41–50 years old also have a higher degree of fatigue. In addition, nurses are more stressful than the others in this medical center. The detailed post hoc analyses enable hospital management to identify employees with high burnout. Finally, this study also provides some recommendations to help hospital management reduce employees’ burnout.
