Abstract

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been extensively discussed, but only a limited number of studies investigate how pandemics are related to traumatic experiences for children. Using a literature review of 38 peer-reviewed articles, both qualitative and quantitative published in the reputable international journals, this study examines how pandemic situations trigger trauma in children. From the literature review, we concluded a number of impacts of Covid 19 on children, including their experience of sudden and shocking changes of events, loss, grief, domestic violence, Covid-19 infections, being surrounded by an adult experiencing mental health disturbance, and becoming the victim of financial restraint faced by their parents. In the frame of relational-cultural theory, parents, caretakers, and educators must help children to reconnect with their peers and environment to face adverse experiences caused by the covid-19 pandemic by providing mutual empathy and building trustworthiness. As culture is an active factor in relational processes, we need to consider individual cultural values to support children who have experienced trauma during the pandemic.

Abstract

TikTok has influenced the development of student behavior. Therefore, a service strategy is needed to overcome TikTok addiction in students. This study aimed to determine whether there was a decrease in TikTok addiction in students after being given cognitive-behavioral counseling with the self-instruction method. The researchers employed experimental research with one group pretest-posttest designs as the research design. The research samples consisted of 18 students. The researchers utilized the TikTok addiction scale as the research instrument for collecting the data. The validity result of the instrument was in KMO value of 0.791 with Sig. of 0.000 (0.791 greater than 0.5). The finding of the reliability test in the research instrument was 0.821 based on Alpha coefficient analysis. The researchers employed non-parametric statistics for data analysis of research. Furthermore, the decision H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted based on the Z value of -2.703 (0.005 less than 0.05) by implementing the Wilcoxon test. Therefore, the results showed that there was TikTok addiction among the students after being given cognitive-behavioral counseling with the self-instruction method. The results of this study contributed as enrichment material both theoretically and practically related to the use of cognitive-behavioral counseling with self-instruction method as the basis for counseling services in schools.

Abstract

Learning from home during the COVID-19 pandemic and learning face-to-face at school with strict health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic have long-term negative effects on the psychological health of students. This situation may impact life quality (QoL). To measure students’ quality of life, mixed methods were adopted. Participants in this research ranged in age from 12 to 19 years. The study involved a total of 139 research participants. Kidscreen-27 questionnaires with a reliability coefficient of 0.913 percent were used. The interviews were conducted according to a set of defined rules. This data was collected online. The analysis was quantitative, qualitative, and descriptive. The majority of Indonesian and Malaysian students’ quality of life fell below the average or “moderate” level (64.7 percent). Malaysian students tend to have a higher higher quality of life than Indonesian students; male students tend to have a higher quality of life than female students; and students aged 12 to 15 tend to have a higher quality of life than students aged 16 to 19 years old. In addition, this analysis found that Indonesian and Malaysian students tend to have a higher “peers and social support dimensions” quality of life. The final finding indicated that students’ quality of life is related to their social interactions, such as school and home activities with friends and family members.

Abstract

There are many negative situations that make students depressed and very stressed with their academics. Students who lack endurance need conducive conditions through social support and strong optimism. This study aimed to test the effect of social support and optimism on the resilience of students working on their thesis. The subjects involved were 79 active students of the faculty of psychology. This study was conducted with quantitative methods using three scales: resilience, social support, and optimism. Sampling was performed using the purposive sampling technique, while the analysis employed the multiple linear regression technique. The results of the major hypothesis analysis show a very significant relationship between social support and student optimism and the resilience of students working on their thesis. The findings of this study can be a significant discussion topic for researchers or other education practitioners to prioritize establishing student resilience in writing final projects and encourage further research related to predominant factors that influence the attitudes of final-year students.

Abstract

This research examines the influence of peer groups in determining student career life. By using a quantitative approach, we aim to investigate the role of peer groups in Generation Z’s career exploration to respond to work transitions. The subjects of this study were 72 vocational high school students. Data collection was carried out using the Peer Group and Career Exploration scales which were developed by adapting the Likert scale. Our analysis results suggested that peer groups carry 57 percent effects on the participants’ career exploration of students. In addition, the results of the Pearson correlation test also showed a 0.755 correlation coefficient between the peer group and career exploration, indicating a strong correlation between the peer group and career exploration. Therefore, the higher peer group support increases the students’ career exploration abilities and vice versa. The influence of the peer group on career exploration ability is classified into a strong category.

Abstract

COVID-19 bears various traumatic impacts on students. This study aims to identify PTSD symptoms in junior and senior high school students after the COVID-19 outbreak. The study was conducted using a cross-sectional survey method. Meanwhile, the data was collected using a problem checklist instrument. Further, the obtained data were analyzed using non-parametric statistics with the Mann-Whitney test to identify differences in PTSD symptoms based on gender and level of education. The results of the analysis show that symptoms appear in every physical, emotional, mental, behavioral, and spiritual aspect. Besides, we also found a significant difference in the level of anxiety disorder between male and female students after COVID-19, while there is no significantly distinct anxiety disorder between junior and senior high school students. In the end, we recommended that more in-depth research regarding the forms of intervention to reduce PTSD in students should be carried out.
