Abstract

This study was to determine the relationship between family values and verbal bullying among secondary school adolescents in Uyo Local Education Committee. Two research questions were raised, and two hypotheses formulated and tested at .05 level of significant. A correlational survey design was adopted while the population of the study comprised all 6,613 senior secondary Two (SS2) students in the fifteen (15) public secondary schools in the study area. A sample size of 378 senior secondary two (SS2) was selected for the study using Taro Yamane sampling formulae. To get adequate sampled schools, balloting method of random sampling was used to select 9 public secondary schools out of 15. Thereafter, 42 students were selected from each of the sampled schools using the same random sampling method for instrument administration. The researchers’ structured questionnaire titled “Family Values and Verbal Bullying among Secondary School Adolescents Questionnaire (FVVBSSAQ)” was used for data collection, with reliability co-efficient of .72 and .85 respectively for the independent and dependent variables, using Cronbach Alpha statistics. Data generated from the field was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistics, and the study findings revealed a very low negative and insignificant relationship between mutual respect, tolerance, and verbal bullying secondary school adolescents. Conclusion was drawn from the findings while the research recommended among other things that, parents should cultivate the attitude of mutual respect in the family by addressing members with a polite, cheerful, and amiable voice so that young ones can speak to others with dignity and respect while in school.

Abstract

From the Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) perspective, irrational beliefs are posited as the primary catalysts for a myriad of problems, including academic burnout. This study aims to examine the theoretical model of irrational beliefs organization in academic burnout. The hypothesized model delineates the following pathways: (1) from demandingness (DEM) to academic burnout (BURN) via catastrophizing (CAT); (2) from demandingness (DEM) to academic burnout (BURN) via low frustration tolerance (LFT); and (3) from demandingness (DEM) to academic burnout (BURN) via self-depreciation (DEP). To achieve the aim, the study employed a causal relationship design. 424 subjects obtained by stratified random sampling participated in the study. The Indonesian version of the Attitude Belief Scale II and the School Burnout Inventory were used to collect data. Data analysis was carried out using path analysis with SPSS 16. The results show that the hypothesized model has received adequate empirical support after eliminating a path from LFT to BURN. In conclusion, two alternative paths of irrational beliefs contribute to academic burnout: (1) the path from DEM to BURN via CAT; and (2) the path from DEM to BURN via DEP. These results underscore demandingness as a primary irrational belief that affects academic burnout via two other secondary irrational beliefs: catastrophizing and self-depreciation. Conversely, low frustration tolerance does not emerge as a significant contributor to academic burnout within this framework.

Abstract

Adolescents require assertiveness in socializing and interacting with their social environment in order to be able to express themselves well. However, there are still many adolescents who have not been able to express their thoughts, feelings, and hopes. This research aims to test the efficacy of group guidance services using the group investigation learning model to increase adolescent assertiveness. This research uses a one-group pretest-posttest research design to achieve the research objectives. The research subjects were six students at State Junior High School. The techniques and instruments used for data collection were an assertiveness scale. The assertiveness scale was tested for the level of validity and reliability through the Cronbach alpha formula. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results demonstrated a significant increase in student assertiveness after being given group guidance using the group investigation model. This indicates that the group investigation learning model is effective in increasing the assertiveness of adolescents.

Abstract

The development of instruments designed to assess student self-concept is crucial. This understanding of self-concept is based on the premise that it is a dynamic and ever-evolving construct. The concept of self-concept is initially conceived as a unidimensional structure but subsequently evolves into a multidimensional construct. The present study assesses the validity and reliability of the newly developed self-concept instrument. In Indonesia, there is a paucity of research that employs the Rasch Model to examine self-concept instruments, particularly in the context of the junior high school population. The objective of this study was to analyze the self-concept instrument using the Rasch Model with a sample of 113 students at the junior high school level. The research methodology employed is quantitative, with a cross-sectional design. The sampling technique employed was simple random sampling. The findings of the study indicate that the instrument effectively assesses the intended dimensions of self-concept. The reliability of the self-concept instrument is deemed to be of a high category, while the reliability of the self-concept item is considered to be of an excellent standard.

Abstract

The diversity of ethnicities, religions, and races that exist in Indonesia contribute to the country's characterization as a nation with a multitude of cultures. In the context of the relationship between counselor and counselee, cultural diversity is a significant concern. The comprehension, awareness, and work behavior of the counselee's cultural diversity is indicative of the counselor's cultural intelligence. The concept of cultural intelligence is a crucial aspect that counselors must consider when providing multicultural counseling services. The objectives of this research are to determine the description of counselors' cultural intelligence and its application in multicultural counseling. The research employed a quantitative research survey design for junior high school counselors in Malang Regency. For the research instrument, this study employed an intelligence scale adapted from Early and Ang. The data were analyzed descriptively in order to describe the counselor's cultural intelligence profile. The results indicated that metacognitive indicators exhibited the highest proportion, with 40% falling within the very high category, while behavioral indicators exhibited the lowest proportion, with 5% falling within the deficient category. The results of the study indicate that there is a need for counseling assistance in the behavioral aspect of cultural intelligence in order to facilitate the implementation of multicultural counseling. In essence, cultural intelligence represents a form of counselor multicultural competence that is necessary for the implementation of multicultural counseling. An increase in cultural intelligence thus supports an increase in multicultural counseling.

Abstract

Vocational high school students were provided with a curriculum designed to facilitate their transition into the workforce. Elicitation studies have indicated that vocational high school students experience difficulties in making career decisions. The internship program is designed to enhance students' emotional intelligence and goal commitment, thereby preventing career decision-making difficulties. This research aims to investigate the mediating effect of goal commitment in the relationship between emotional intelligence and career decision-making difficulties. This quantitative correlational research was conducted in a vocational high school in Bogor with a total of 173 participants using a self-report questionnaire of CDDQ, TEIQue-SF, and HWK Scale. Mediation analysis was processed using Hayes PROCESS. Results showed that goal commitment plays a partial mediation role in the relationship between emotional intelligence and career decision-making difficulties (c’ = -0.19, p < 0.001; c = -0.25, p < 0.001). This research will also present the limitations and suggestions for future study.

Abstract

Academic stress can reduce academic performance in first-year university students. Based on theoretical studies and previous research, three factors are predicted to influence academic stress: academic self-efficacy, life satisfaction, and happiness. This study analyzes the correlation of academic self-efficacy, life satisfaction, and happiness with first-year university students' academic stress. This research uses a quantitative approach with correlational methods and path analysis. The participants in this research were 720 first-year university students in Indonesia. The research instruments used were the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale, Happiness Scale, and Academic Stress Scale. Research data was collected online and then analyzed using the partial-least squares-structural equation model (PLS-SEM) technique. The results of this study show that life satisfaction and happiness are negatively and significantly correlated with first-year university students' academic stress. Furthermore, this research shows that happiness is the most determinant factor for academic stress, so it acts as a mediator in the correlation of academic self-efficacy and life satisfaction with first-year university students' academic stress. These three factors must be considered to reduce first-year university students' academic stress.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the needs of career counseling services for students in different majors in Islamic universities, and identify how these services can be tailored to meet their unique needs. A mixed-methods approach was used to collect and analyze data from undergraduate students in diverse majors at an Islamic university in Kendari. The study found that students in certain majors require more specific counseling, such as information on job market trends and technical skills development. Additionally, the study suggests that career counseling services can be tailored to meet the specific needs of students in diverse majors by providing specialized workshops and networking events, as well as spiritual counseling and guidance. Providing a combination of in-person and online resources can also be highly beneficial for students' career development. The findings of this study can inform the development of more effective and tailored career counseling services for students in Islamic universities, and help ensure that graduates are well-prepared for the job market and can make meaningful contributions to society.
