Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effects of kombucha biotechnology fermentation waste on the growth and yield of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens) plants. As concerns about the environmental impacts of chemical fertilizers increase, the use of fermented organic waste is a promising alternative. Kombucha waste, rich in organic acids, vitamins, enzymes, and probiotic microorganisms, has the potential to be used as a biostimulant or liquid organic fertilizer. This study used an experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) involving five treatments of kombucha waste concentration (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) and four replications. The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, wet and dry plant weight, number of fruits per plant, and total fruit weight. Predictive results showed that the application of kombucha waste at an optimal concentration (predicted 50-75%) significantly increased the vegetative and generative growth parameters of cayenne pepper compared to the control. Kombucha waste has been proven to be a sustainable solution to increase cayenne pepper productivity and reduce industrial waste.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an effective and sustainable red guava commodity agribusiness development strategy in the research area. Red guava has great potential as a superior commodity because of its high nutritional content, stable market demand, and good adaptation to local climate. However, the development of its agribusiness still faces various obstacles, ranging from production, post-harvest, to marketing aspects. This study will use survey and in-depth interview methods with qualitative and quantitative descriptive approaches (SWOT and AHP analysis). Data will be collected from farmers, traders, consumers, and related stakeholders. Predictive results indicate that development strategies should focus on improving product quality, diversifying processing, strengthening farmer institutions, and increasing market access. This study is expected to provide comprehensive strategic recommendations for stakeholders to maximize the potential of red guava agribusiness.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of fermented banana peel waste application on increasing the productivity of chili plants (Capsicum spp.). Banana peels, as abundant agricultural waste, are rich in potassium (K), phosphorus (P), and essential micronutrients, making them a potential organic fertilizer. The fermentation process can increase the availability of these nutrients as well as add beneficial decomposing microorganisms to the soil. This study will use a field experiment method with a Randomized Block Design (RAK) involving several concentration levels of fermented banana peel liquid organic fertilizer (POC). The parameters observed include vegetative growth (plant height, number of leaves), generative growth (number of flowers, number of fruits), and harvest yield (fruit weight per plant). Predictive results indicate that the application of fermented banana peel POC at optimal concentrations will significantly increase the growth and productivity of chili plants compared to the control. This study is expected to provide practical recommendations for farmers in utilizing agricultural waste for more sustainable chili cultivation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence farmers' perceptions of the role of rice farmer groups in the study area. Farmer groups are an important forum for farmer empowerment, but their effectiveness often varies. Farmers' positive perceptions of farmer groups are crucial for the sustainability and success of agricultural programs. This study will use a survey method with a quantitative approach through a questionnaire. Data will be collected from farmers who are members of rice farmer groups. Data analysis will include descriptive analysis, difference tests (if there is a comparison group), and multiple regression analysis to identify influential factors. Predictive results indicate that factors such as extension support, perceived economic benefits, participation in group activities, and socio-economic characteristics of farmers will significantly influence farmers' perceptions. This study is expected to provide strategic input for the government and related parties in efforts to strengthen the role of rice farmer groups

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the potential for developing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots (Hermetia illucens) as a solution for managing organic waste and an alternative source of protein in Binjai City. Cities in Indonesia face serious problems related to the accumulation of organic waste, while on the other hand, the need for quality animal and fish feed continues to increase. BSF maggots offer an innovative solution to both problems through their ability to degrade organic waste and their high nutritional value. This study will use qualitative and quantitative methods (mixed methods) with data collection techniques in the form of surveys, in-depth interviews, and observations. Data will be analyzed descriptively and SWOT to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the development of BSF maggots in Binjai City. Predictive results show that the potential for BSF maggots in Binjai City is very large, especially supported by the availability of organic waste, but faces challenges in terms of production scale and market acceptance. This study is expected to provide strategic recommendations for the city government and the community to optimize the potential of BSF maggots for sustainable development.
