Abstract

This study investigates the effects of increasing coconut exports from Indonesia to China on local price dynamics and coconut availability in two key coconut-producing areas: Pesawaran and Bandar Lampung. By employing a descriptive-qualitative approach, the research draws insights from field observations, in-depth interviews, and testimonies from coconut farmers, traders, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The findings reveal a complex impact: while the rise in exports leads to higher local coconut prices—benefiting farmers by boosting their income—it also imposes economic strain on domestic consumers and small-scale industries dependent on affordable coconut supplies. The redirection of large portions of coconut harvests toward international markets has notably reduced local supply, creating scarcity and price instability in domestic trade. Moreover, the absence of effective government regulation regarding export quotas and distribution monitoring exacerbates the disconnect between international trade priorities and local consumption needs. Without intervention, this imbalance risks undermining local food security and MSME sustainability. To address these issues, the study advocates for targeted policy measures such as export control mechanisms, robust monitoring systems, and capacity-building programs for MSME actors to strengthen domestic market resilience while maintaining export competitiveness

Abstract

This study aims to analyze oil palm commodity development policies in Lampung Province and their impact on farmers' economy. Palm oil is one of the leading commodities that has an important role in the regional economy, especially for farmers who depend on this agricultural sector. Policies implemented by the government, both at the regional and national levels, play a significant role in determining the direction of the development of the palm oil industry, including in terms of farmer empowerment, natural resource management, and environmental sustainability. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with oil palm farmers, local government officials, and agricultural experts, as well as document analysis related to existing policies. The results show that although the oil palm development policy in Lampung has contributed positively to increasing farmers' income, there are several challenges related to fluctuating commodity prices, lack of access to modern agricultural technology, and environmental sustainability issues that still need serious attention. The economic impact on oil palm smallholders is highly dependent on the stability of policies that support the sector, as well as the strengthening of distribution systems and training to increase the capacity of farmers. Therefore, a more integrative policy is needed that not only focuses on increasing production, but also on better social and environmental welfare for oil palm farmers in Lampung.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate an appropriate black pepper development strategy to increase its added value, competitiveness, and contribution to food security and the local economy. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach supported by SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats). Data were collected through interviews with pepper farmers, village officials, and related agencies, as well as field observations. Next, an IFAS and EFAS matrix was developed to identify internal and external factors affecting black pepper development. The results of the analysis show that the main strengths lie in the experience of farmers and the potential for large areas of land, while the main weaknesses are limited technology and access to financing. On the other hand, development opportunities come from global market demand and government policy support, while the main threats come from climate change and market competition. Based on the position in the SWOT matrix, the development strategy of East Lampung black pepper is in quadrant I (aggressive strategy), which is to utilize strengths to seize opportunities. Strategies that can be applied include increasing the capacity of farmers through training, expanding market access with quality certification, and strengthening farmers' economic institutions. This strategy is expected to increase farmers' independence, strengthen food security, and drive the local economy in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of economic principles in determining the selling price of pepper and its impact on farmers' profits in South Lampung. The approach used was qualitative with in-depth interviews and observation of pepper farmers in several villages in South Lampung. The data collected were analyzed thematically to identify economic factors that influence pepper selling prices, such as production costs, market demand dynamics, and the role of government policies. The results showed that pepper farmers in South Lampung often experience difficulties in determining a profitable selling price, due to dependence on fluctuating market prices and a lack of understanding of economic principles in cost calculation. The impact of this price uncertainty has an impact on the profits earned by farmers, with some farmers reporting unstable profits. This study provides insight into the importance of understanding economic principles in the management of pepper farming, as well as the need for increased knowledge and policy support to improve farmers' welfare.

Abstract

Cassava remains one of the key agricultural commodities in Central Lampung, yet its marketing system continues to encounter significant structural issues. This study explores the optimization of cassava marketing through the formation of harvest groups among local farmers. A qualitative research approach was adopted, involving in-depth interviews and field observations in various farming communities. The research investigates the role of harvest groups in overcoming challenges such as dependence on middlemen, poor infrastructure, limited access to market networks, and fluctuating selling prices. The findings highlight that the establishment of harvest groups improves coordination among farmers and enhances collective bargaining power, thereby enabling better negotiation of prices and access to broader markets. Through collective marketing strategies, farmers gain greater autonomy and reduce reliance on exploitative intermediaries. Additionally, collaboration with cassava processing industries opens opportunities for value-added production and longer-term partnerships. However, the formation and sustainability of these groups are hindered by limited access to working capital, lack of marketing knowledge, and weak logistical frameworks. Therefore, the success of this strategy necessitates multi-stakeholder support, including policy backing from local governments, facilitation of infrastructure development, and financial assistance from institutions. This study underlines the strategic importance of empowering farmers through group-based marketing initiatives to enhance their economic resilience and market competitiveness
