Abstract

This discussion examines the tradition of the Banyumas community in the four-monthly pregnancy ritual (slametan) involving the use of nilem fish (Osteochilus hasselti) as part of the symbol and offering. The purpose of this discussion is to understand the cultural meaning, social function, and transformation of the practice in the modern era. qualitative descriptive method with a combination of literature study (desk study) and field observation, conducted in Banyumas Regency, Central Java Province. The results of the discussion show that nilem fish in the four-monthly event has a symbolic meaning of fertility, fetal health, and the safety of pregnant women. This tradition is still carried out from generation to generation, although it has undergone several adjustments to the current socio-economic context. This study concludes that preserving this kind of tradition is important in maintaining local cultural identity, as well as being a subject of study in the fields of food anthropology and health ethnography.

Abstract

The red lace guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is a highly adaptable fish species with a high tolerance to a wide range of temperatures and salinity levels, even in polluted waters. This study aims to determine the spawning and maintenance methods for guppy (Poecilia reticulata) fry. This study used the RAL method with three treatments and two replications. P(1) plastic tank with a Malang sand base and aquatic plants (Hydrilla sp.), P(2) plastic tank with a Malang sand base without aquatic plants (Hydrilla sp.), P(3) plastic tank without a base and without aquatic plants (Hydrilla sp.). The plastic spawning and maintenance tanks were filled with approximately 20 cm of water and labeled according to the treatment and replication. Treatment 1, which included Malang sand and the aquatic plant Hydrilla sp., had the highest spawning success rate, yielding 67 fish. This was due to the addition of plant substrate for hiding places and the addition of Malang sand to stimulate the fish's body, which is received by receptors and transmitted to the nervous system.

Abstract

Parosphromenus juelinae is a small ornamental fish species from the genus Parosphromenus (licorice gouramis group) found in peat swamp waters in Southeast Asia. This study aims to review the morphological characteristics, habitat ecology, reproductive behavior, and conservation challenges of this species. The research method was carried out through a literature review of primary and secondary literature. The results of the study indicate that P. juelinae has distinctive morphological characteristics in the form of brightly colored fins with unique patterns, lives in acidic water environments with low pH, and is highly dependent on peat swamp ecosystems that are currently threatened by deforestation. In conclusion, this species plays an important role as an indicator of peat swamp ecosystem health, so that natural habitat based conservation efforts and further research on its cultivation potential are needed.

Abstract

Industrial development is not only oriented toward economic growth but also toward social justice through gender equality. This study aims to analyze women’s contributions to industrial development in Purwokerto, identify opportunities and challenges they face, and formulate gender-responsive industrial development strategies. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method based on secondary data analysis, with sources from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA), the Banyumas Office of Cooperatives and SMEs, as well as scholarly literature and reliable media. The analysis applies a gender dimension framework covering access, participation, and control. The results show that women’s participation in Central Java has increased, reflected in the rising Female Labor Force Participation Rate (FLFPR) and improvements in the Gender Development Index (GDI). In Purwokerto, over 60% of SMEs are managed by women, particularly in culinary, trade, handicrafts, and traditional markets, positioning them as key drivers of the local economy. Opportunities to strengthen women’s roles are evident through business digitalization and the growth of the halal industry, supported by local government programs. However, major challenges remain, including limited access to finance, low digital literacy, double domestic burdens, and underrepresentation in large-scale industries. Therefore, gender-responsive industrial strategies are needed by expanding financial access, enhancing digital and managerial capacities, and promoting affirmative policies to increase women’s representation in strategic positions. Thus, Purwokerto has the potential to become a model of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
