Abstract

Contained within it does not fade with the passage of time. This research is an effort to preserve the folk story of Bhujuk Abdul Alam Prajjan with the aim of analyzing the meaning of the myths contained within it, as well as the community's views on these myths in relation to social and cultural values. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with Roland Barthes' semiotic theory to examine the denotative and connotative meanings in the story. Data is collected through observations, interviews with local communities, and documentation, then analyzed through stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The research findings indicate that the myths in the folk story of Bhujuk Abdul Alam not only contain symbolic and spiritual values but also reflect the belief system of the Prajjan community. The myth of marriage with a fairy princess, the symbol of three rice strands, the arrival of invisible guests, and a buffalo nursing a child are understood as symbols of blessings, purity, and the grace possessed by Bhujuk Abdul Alam. The community view places Bhujuk Abdul Alam as a religious figure and a sacred ancestor worthy of honor, as well as a guardian of the cultural and spiritual identity of the Madurese people.

Abstract

Public speaking is an essential skill for students to face both academic and professional challenges. One factor believed to enhance this ability is participation in student organizations. However, many students have not fully utilized organizations as a medium for self-development, particularly in public speaking. This study aims to analyze the influence of organizational involvement on public speaking skills, identify contributing factors, and examine organizational strategies to improve these skills. The research employed a quantitative survey method involving 69 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, observation, documentation, and analyzed with SPSS version 25 through validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, and simple linear regression. The findings reveal that organizational participation significantly affects students’ public speaking skills (sig. 0.000; F = 79.214). The most influential factors include the level of participation, roles undertaken, types of activities, and the social environment within the organization. Effective organizational strategies consist of communication training, group discussions, leadership development, and assigning active roles in activities. These results confirm that student organizations serve as an effective platform for shaping and enhancing students’ public speaking skills.

Abstract

Education is an important aspect of human life that provides many benefits if accessed optimally. As stated in Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 10 of 2003, which explains that education has a function to develop abilities and shape the character and civilization of a dignified nation. This study aims to explore the relationship between students' level of understanding of democracy obtained from PPKn learning and their tolerance in facing differences of opinion. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational type. The population in this study was 200 people, with a sample obtained using the Slovin formula of 67 people. The data collection technique used was a questionnaire. Data analysis used in this study included validity tests, reliability tests, normality tests, and correlation tests. Based on the results of the study, it shows that there is a significant relationship between students' level of understanding of democracy and their tolerance towards differences of opinion. From the statistical analysis conducted regarding the understanding of democracy and tolerance of grade 10 students at SMK Negeri 1 Sampang, a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.260 was obtained with a significance value of 0.034. This means that the higher the students' understanding of democracy, the higher their level of tolerance towards differences of opinion.

Abstract

Jakarta, as a multicultural city, presents a complex linguistic dynamic, particularly between formal and colloquial (slang) language. This study aims to analyze the dominance of these two language varieties at Pasar Senen Station and identify the factors influencing their use. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving observation, semi-structured interviews, visual and audio documentation, and social media analysis. The findings indicate that formal language dominates official domains such as announcements and ticket transactions, while slang is more frequently used in casual interactions among young passengers and between vendors and customers. Code-switching and code-mixing are common communication strategies, while social media plays a significant role in accelerating the spread of slang vocabulary in public spaces. In conclusion, language choice at Pasar Senen Station is influenced by interaction context, age, social status, communication purposes, and digital culture. Language functions not only as a communication tool but also as a marker of identity and solidarity in urban society.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low student learning outcomes in Civics subjects which include cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Low student participation in the learning process is one of the main causes, which is influenced by teaching methods that are less varied and are still one-way such as lectures. Lack of interaction, courage to ask questions, and lack of active student involvement make learning less effective and boring. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which conducted in two cycles and involved 14 students of class IX SMP Nahdlatut Tholibin Blega as research subjects. Data collection techniques were conducted through tests, observations, questionnaires, and interviews. The learning method applied was Role Reversal Question, which is a learning strategy that involves exchanging roles between students as teachers and other students as participants in question and answer sessions, thus fostering a more lively and meaningful two-way interaction. The results showed that there was an increase in students' learning outcomes from pre-cycle to cycle II. In the pre-cycle stage, the average student score was 60.8 with a classical completeness of 24.3%. After applying the Role Reversal Question method in cycle I, the average score increased to 76.5 with 53.3% completeness. A more significant increase occurred in cycle II with an average score of 87.9 and completeness of 87.9%.
