Abstract

During approximately one year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the obligation to carry out the 3M health protocol formed many new habits. This new habit brings everyone to the new normal era, where things that were previously rarely done become mandatory to be implemented. Both modern and traditional markets are obliged to facilitate visitors to still be able to obey health protocols. However, compared to modern markets, traditional market managers tend to be less able to provide facilities that can support the implementation of health protocols, especially in terms of building design. This study aims to find solutions for adapting traditional market designs in the new normal era. It is hoped that this research can be useful as a design reference for planning or developing traditional markets in the face of the new normal era. The research method used is a qualitative analysis method with research results in the form of adapting traditional market building designs in the new normal era by referring to six design characteristics that are adapted to health protocols, namely having lots of air ventilation, circular market stall layout, one-way circulation system, and expanding the entrance area as a starting point for screening. Futhermore responding to pandemic conditions, efforts to support social interaction as one of the attractions for shopping at traditional markets can be done by placing acrylic barriers, open spaces, and areas for drive thru.

Abstract

The Laweyan area has been known since the kingdoms era in Surakarta that has a very specific character like old cities in Europe, namely physically the area is an enclave with three layers of main roads, neighborhood roads and small alleys (alleys). In this area, the Laweyan batik merchants lived and worked in the batik industry. They have a high position in Surakarta society, but not as a servant in the karaton, so has no obligation to follow the order of life of the nobility, including in the form of his residential building. The lifestyle influenced the design of the house, which tried to follow the traditional Javanese order but was transformed with new forms, especially in the use of building materials that adapted the development of building technology at that time. The purpose of writing is to study the Laweyan batik merchant's house based on the periodization of its construction. The method used is descriptive analytic by conducting observations, interviews, measuring buildings and the environment that is used as a sample. Samples were taken based on the owner's ability to accept researchers due to the pandemic. The results achieved can structure the transformation of form, character, style, and spatial planning based on the period 1800-1900, 1900-1945, 1945-2000, in the form of crosses and incorporation of the typical building characters of the Laweyan merchants can add to the repertoire of architectural wealth in Indonesia.

Abstract

Building safety design relates to the ease and effectiveness of evacuation. One of the most influential aspects is human behavior. In building fires, many computational and mathematical simulation models have been developed to understand the phenomenon of behavior that occurs. However, it is rare to discuss a comprehensive review of the development of the modeling method and its potential application in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to examine several methods of modeling fire evacuation behavior in buildings to find potential and obstacles to their application, especially in the Indonesian context through literature review. In Indonesia, architectural research related to fire evacuation behavior is scarce; most focus on compliance with prescriptive rules, extinguishers placement, and installation of compartments and passive extinguishing systems. The potential aspect to be included in the evacuation behavior model is the social culture of Indonesia regarding differences in perceiving and gaining environmental information.

Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic has successfully triggered major changes in human behavior, spread suffering physically and psychologically to humans, destroyed the economic order of society, country, and even whole world. In the other side, it also contributed positively, being one of the triggers for creative ideas in designing Architecture. Physical distancing one of ways to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 contributed as ammunition for architects, as a conceptual foundation for designing architectural spaces. How this change in space standards becomes a trigger to explore the source of the architectural concept, considering changes in that area means changes in the proportions of its mass? The purpose of this paper is to provide alternative ideas in exploring the provision of architectural space that meets the health protocol physical distancing has been set by WHO. The method used is descriptive-comparative by referring to the standard of architectural space requirements as well as several related journals and the provisions of physical distancing. The writing will be carried out by setting side by side and comparing between the basic standard of space requirements and the standard provisions of physical distancing. The conclusion of this paper is the birth of new ideas in architectural space design.

Abstract

One of the key aspects about the importance of history of the city is about how we manage and maintain the persistence of the heritage building. As we know that there is always a value behind the journey of the city with all the story left behind. If we look at closely, the story behind the development or how the city grew up is one of the key elements that can affect the existence of the city. Palembang City with the various issue and development happened has change the image of the city drastically. However, with the development going on incessantly, we hope that it goes well by avoiding demolition or other action that can remove the history of the city. One of them is the issue about the existence of the heritage building. Unfortunately, in some place where the heritage building exists, we easily can find the fact that many of them not maintain very well, so that it decreases the value and quality of the building. One of the reasons is the lack of awareness and concern of the society that significantly affect damage. The fact that there is the regulation made to protect the existence of the heritage building. The decreased of the building also the main reason the value of the area around drop drastically. Historical aspect related to alteration of form and function is explored through qualitative analysis by observing and collecting data in order to perform design simulation. Adaptive reuse is one of the ways to treat heritage well an an appropriate action to keep and maintain the identity and character of the building. In the qualiative method, adaptive reuse is set to applied in Museum Tekstil Palembang in order to revive the activity and increase the economic value surrounding.
