Abstract

Kapitan Village and Dewi Kwam In Temple are two tourist destinations in the city of Palembang which are located on the banks of the Musi River. The construction of the corridor along the banks of the Musi River that connects the two tourist areas is still not optimal when viewed from the aspect of satisfaction with the level of service to tourists. Even so, the corridor on the banks of the Musi River has a very high tourism potential because of its very strategic location. This article aims to obtain a conceptualization of a corridor development strategy on the banks of the Musi River based on visitor perceptions as a reference for local government development planning. The research method was carried out using a quantitative method where the statistical data obtained was the result of distributing questionnaires. The data is presented through picture diagrams and analyzed descriptively. Furthermore, the results of the questionnaire are linked to the main principles of waterfront area development. Based on the analysis that has been carried out, the concept of culinary tourism is the type of tourism that is most in demand by respondents and is suitable for application in the Musi Riverside corridor.

Abstract

The planning riverside area can be a solution for the provision of public open space. The planning should promote the special character of the landscape and the community’s social culture. Open spaces in dense settlements use for expansion of the cramped house for daily activities and socializing between residents. The research location is in a settlement around the Ampera Bridge in Palembang. This study aims to present an alternative riverbank open space design based on the specific of the physical conditions and activities of riverside settlement. Observation includes the number of types of users, activities, area, and facilities. The results showed that active points were found in seven open spaces. The intensity and type of activity is influenced by the area, panorama, and facilities. Access to the river is the most important element in designing open spaces on the banks of the river. Residents' activities are often related to rivers. The access will revive the use of open space as a link between the river and the daily activities of residents. The arrangement also needs to be equipped with additional facilities of the daily needs for the resident’s reason to visit open spaces.

Abstract

In general, informal settlements in Urban Kampung often went through adaptations and changes to accommodate the activities of their residents. The residents in informal settlements naturally change or add spaces to their dwellings without any binding rules, this often creates disorder and chaos in the spatial arrangement. In the case of Kampung Muka, this kind of independent space adaptation also occurs. However, in several cases, such as the placement and addition of service area, a consistent trend was found in the pattern of spatial adaptation. The residents seem to have their own rules in arranging service area, such as the kitchen on the outside of their dwelling. The existence of rules or agreements that appear in this community is very interesting, considering that informal communities tend to be considered exempt from rules. Understanding the emergence of rules that bind spatial adaptation then becomes important to see how far the limits and flexibility can be applied to densely populated housing especially to residents from informal environments. This study uses qualitative data collection methods in the form of observations of the spatial placement of spaces and activities, as well as in-depth interviews with respondents. In the end, the study succeeded in identifying how the kitchen as a form of spatial adaptation and the implied rules that accompany it.

Abstract

Palembang is a historic city in Indonesia. Palembang serves as a port and a trading hub in addition. The Hadrami, who hailed from Hadramaut, were one tribe of traders who subsequently made Palembang their home. The Hadrami immigrants reside in the two historic villages of Al Munawar and Assegaf. In this study, architectural components in these two villages are used as signs that can be interpreted based on their denotation and connotation. This research method is known as semotics in architecture. This essay demonstrates how the socioeconomic proximity of the villagers to the ruling authorities at the time—namely the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate and the Dutch East Indies—is related to the shape of the buildings in these two villages. The result of the result would be a basis of next studies and also program of city development, especially in Palembang City.
