Abstract

Radiation dose reduction in pediatric radiography, particularly for babygram examinations, is a critical concern in modern healthcare. Infants and young children are highly sensitive to ionizing radiation, necessitating stringent protection measures to minimize potential long-term health risks. This study aimed to implement and evaluate Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL)-based strategies for optimizing radiation doses in babygram procedures at RSUD Dr. Soedirman Kebumen. A socialization program was conducted for radiology staff, including radiologists, radiographers, and medical physicists, focusing on DRL application, ALARA principles, immobilization techniques, and collimation strategies. Results showed improved adherence to DRL guidelines, enhanced awareness among staff, and more effective use of dose reduction techniques. Evaluations indicated significant potential for dose reduction without compromising diagnostic quality. By incorporating advanced dose reduction techniques and conducting regular audits, this study concludes that implementing DRL-based strategies significantly enhances patient safety in pediatric radiography while maintaining diagnostic efficacy. Recommendations include prioritizing professional development, regular quality assessments, and expanding the use of DRLs alongside investments in automated planning technologies.

Abstract

ABSTRACTMagnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive diagnostic method that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the body. This procedure provides very significant benefits in the medical world, especially for detecting various health conditions. However, behind the benefits, there are potential safety risks that need to be well understood by medical personnel, patients, and patient companions. Awareness of these safety procedures is crucial to minimize the risk of injury or complications during the inspection. In one of the hospitals, the implementation of safety procedures involves providing comprehensive education to all relevant parties within the scope of MRI examination. This education includes an in-depth explanation of potential hazards, such as the interaction of metal objects with strong magnetic fields, as well as guidance on adhering to safety rules while in the MRI room. Medical personnel are also equipped with training designed to ensure compliance with safety protocols. The results of the study show that the level of awareness of MRI safety procedures still varies in various health facilities. Some facilities with good education and training programs show a higher level of awareness, while others require improvement in this regard. Efforts to raise awareness can be carried out through a combination of various approaches, including structured education, regular training for medical personnel, and the use of modern technology to support safety. With these measures, risks in MRI examinations can be minimized, resulting in a safe and effective examination environment.

Abstract

Visual impairment children have challenges in maintaining oral hygiene due to limited visual abilities. Parents and teachers play a critical role in guiding these children to improve their dental health. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of oral health training using the “POSLEA” media in enhancing parents and teachers knowledge and improving the toothbrushing skills of visual impairment children. The study was conducted at SLB Negeri Jepara from September to October 2024. Subjects included 18 visual impairment students, 8 teachers, and parents. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and debris index assessments before and after the training. The training program consisted of material delivery, simulations, and hands-on practice using audio and braille-based media. The results revealed a significant increase in knowledge among parents (72% in the “good” category) and teachers (100% in the “good” category) after the training. Additionally, the toothbrushing skills of students improved from the “needs assistance” category to 89% of students achieving the “excellent” category. The training effectively facilitated understanding of proper toothbrushing techniques for all tooth surfaces and their application in daily routines. In conclusion, oral health training using the “POSLEA” media is effective in empowering parents and teachers to support the dental health of visually impaired children. Continuous monitoring is recommended to ensure the sustained positive impact of this training.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a growing global health problem, including in Indonesia where the prevalence continues to rise annually. The management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has largely been health officer-centered, with limited involvement of patients and families, which leads to suboptimal outcomes. This community service program (PkM) aimed to empower communities in Plalangan Subdistrict, Gunungpati District, Semarang City, through the training of health cadres in T2DM management. The program was conducted in two phases: pre-activity coordination with local stakeholders and the implementation of training activities. A total of 40 health cadres participated in training that included education on diabetes management, child diabetes, and simple blood glucose monitoring techniques using glucometers. Results showed that cadres successfully improved their knowledge and practical skills, demonstrated the ability to conduct capillary blood glucose tests, and acted as community educators in DM prevention and management. The involvement of trained cadres strengthened primary healthcare services by supporting early detection, encouraging healthy behaviors, and enhancing patient adherence. This program highlights the critical role of community empowerment and cadre training in improving diabetes management and quality of life at the community level.
