Abstract

This study aims to examine in-depth the role of community gardens and local food empowerment in improving maternal nutritional status in remote areas through a literature review approach. Maternal nutritional issues, particularly in areas with limited access to nutritious food, remain a significant challenge in efforts to improve public health. Through a review of relevant scientific sources, articles, and policy reports, this study highlights how community garden initiatives and the optimization of local food sources can increase the availability, diversity, and consumption of nutritious food for pregnant and breastfeeding women. The study results indicate that community gardens serve not only as an alternative food source but also as a means of nutrition education, strengthening social solidarity, and enhancing community-based food security. Empowering women in local garden management has been shown to strengthen their role as agents of change within families and communities, promoting healthy eating behaviors, and reducing the risk of maternal malnutrition. This study emphasizes the importance of a participatory and locally-based approach to nutrition interventions, particularly in areas facing geographic and economic barriers. Therefore, integrating local health and agricultural policies that support the sustainability of community gardens and access to nutritious food is a key recommendation for strengthening maternal nutritional security in remote areas.

Abstract

Waste remains an environmental issue facing the people of Naena Muktipura Village, Iwaka District, Mimika Regency. Lack of public awareness of the decomposition time of waste and the habit of littering are key issues identified based on field observations. In response to this situation, Group 1 of the Student Creativity Program (PKM) implemented an Environmental Care Movement by creating and installing waste education boards as a visual educational tool for the community. This activity aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of inorganic waste and the importance of maintaining a clean environment. The implementation method is carried out collaboratively within students, including needs analysis, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The educational boards are designed to be simple and informative, featuring real-life examples of waste and information on the decomposition time. They are then installed in strategic locations for easy access and reading by the public. The results of the activity showed that the educational boards were installed effectively and received a positive response from the community. The boards attracted residents' attention and increased their understanding of the long-term impacts of waste. This activity is expected to foster collective community awareness of maintaining a clean environment sustainably.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to create a more creative and comfortable learning environment for early childhood students at TK Negeri 3 Naena Muktipura Village. The background of this program was the limited classroom decoration and visual learning media, which reduced children’s learning motivation and creativity. A participatory and collaborative approach was applied by involving university students, teachers, parents, and children in classroom decoration activities and educational games. The program was conducted in one day through several stages, including needs analysis, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed a significant improvement in the classroom atmosphere, which became more colorful, attractive, and child-friendly. The children were more enthusiastic and motivated to learn, and they felt proud because their artworks were displayed in the classroom. Teachers and parents also gave positive feedback since the new decorations could be used as learning media. In conclusion, this PKM activity not only improved the physical learning environment but also had a positive impact on the psychological and social aspects of early childhood learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strengthening of institutional and management aspects of employee cooperatives as an effort to improve members’ welfare in a sustainable manner. Employee cooperatives play a strategic role in supporting the economic and social welfare of workers; however, in practice, they still face various challenges, particularly in institutional capacity and management practices. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. The data used are secondary data obtained through a literature review of books, scientific journals, previous studies, and regulations related to cooperatives. The results indicate that although employee cooperatives have established institutional structures in accordance with existing regulations, their implementation has not been optimal. Low member participation, limited managerial and supervisory capacity, and weak application of good cooperative governance are the main obstacles. Therefore, strengthening institutional capacity and implementing professional, transparent, and participatory management are essential to enhance both economic and social benefits and to improve members’ welfare sustainably

Abstract

Landmark trees play an important role not only as ecological supports, but also as part of the cultural identity of rural communities. The ‘Click, Village Tree Stories’ activity is the result of a collaboration between Kampung Budaya Piji Wetan and UMKU 09 Lau Village KKN students, which aims to document the existence of landmark trees through photography and reflective narratives. The methods used included field observations, object photography, information gathering from the community, and the compilation of tree descriptions. The result of this activity is a documentation book containing various types of landmark trees along with their ecological, social, and cultural stories. This activity demonstrates that visual documentation can be a medium for environmental education, strengthening community awareness, and a means of preserving local culture. It is hoped that this activity can be the first step in a sustainable effort to protect the village environment based on community participation.

Abstract

Strengthening financial governance is an important prerequisite for the sustainability of microfinance institutions, especially those that carry out social mandates and business sustainability simultaneously. This community service activity aims to strengthen financial governance at PT Permodalan Nasional Madani through a participatory and sustainable mentoring programme. The main problems faced by partners include gaps in financial human resource capacity, the complexity of reporting and internal control systems, and limited sustainable technical assistance. The method used in this activity is a practice-based mentoring approach (learning by doing), which includes identifying needs, providing assistance in preparing and organising financial reports, strengthening internal controls, and monitoring and evaluation. The results of the activities show an increase in the capacity of financial human resources in understanding and applying the principles of accountability and transparency, improvements in the reporting system through the structuring of SOPs and increased data reconciliation discipline, and the strengthening of internal controls that are more integrated into daily work processes. The strengthening of financial governance has resulted in more reliable financial information, improved managerial decision-making, and support for the sustainability of microfinance services. This activity confirms that community service-based mentoring is effective in promoting changes in financial governance practices and strengthening the role of universities as strategic partners in institutional capacity building.

Abstract

In the  village of Nanga Manday, located in Bika Subdistrict, Kapuas Hulu Regency, Indonesian Borneo, community development initiatives play a crucial role in addressing local religious and social needs. The low level of religious literacy, coupled with limited access to Islamic da'wah and in-depth religious knowledge, constitutes the primary problem formulation that hinders the fulfillment of fardhu kifayah obligations among the village community. Limited access to Islamic da'wah and in depth religious knowledge in Nanga Manday Village, Bika Subdistrict, Kapuas Hulu Regency, has posed challenges in fulfilling fardhu kifayah obligations, particularly in handling deceased bodies. The community's reliance on a single community figure to perform the entire process from bathing to burying the deceased has raised concerns among residents. This community service activity aims to enhance the theoretical understanding and practical skills of Nanga Manday Village residents regarding Islamic procedures for handling the deceased. A participatory-educational approach was employed, encompassing initial observations, socialization, material delivery, and hands-on training. The activity demonstrated high community enthusiasm, along with significant improvements in knowledge and skills across all stages of handling the deceased, from bathing, shrouding, praying over, to burying. Ultimately, the training successfully empowered the community to independently and correctly fulfill fardhu kifayah obligations, thereby reducing dependency and enhancing religious social responsibility within the community. This success not only opens opportunities for sustainable collaboration with local religious institutions such as Majelis Ta'lim, but also serves as a replicable model of community service for other remote villages in West Kalimantan, aimed at sustaining long-term independence, strengthening sharia-based social networks, and supporting sustainable community development in line with the national village development vision.
