Abstract

This article examined the strengthening of Aswaja An-Nahdliyah’s understanding as an effort to anticipate radicalism for Islamic education teacher candidates at the Faculty of Tarbiyah, Sunan Ampel State Islamic University Surabaya. The type of this article was qualitative with a Participatory Action Research approach and the method of extracting initial condition data and coaching related to Aswaja An-Nahdliyah material as an effort to anticipate radicalism for Islamic education teacher candidates in the fifth semester of the Academic Year 2021-2022. The results demonstrated that strengthening Aswaja An-Nahdliyah provides an understanding of the map of radical groups and movements; Aswaja An-Nahdliyah teachings and attitudes teach religious moderation as a basis for anticipating and avoiding radicalism teachings and attitudes; Aswaja An-Nahdliyah’s teachings are full of religious tolerance, which helps to block radicalism. This issue is very important considering that even though Sunan Ampel State Islamic University Surabaya, as an Islamic university, is not free from radical infiltration, strengthening Aswaja is necessary to anticipate this, especially for Islamic education teacher candidates.

Abstract

Pesantren can now play a role and compete with educational institutions in general, especially in trying to adapt to the development and progress of the times. On the other side, manypesantren can stand on equal footing with general educational institutions in terms of mastery of science and technology. It is evidently an added value because, on the one hand, it remains a center for Islamic studies by trying to maintain old traditions that are still relevant, while on the other hand, it remains inclusive of various issues of change that occur outside the pesantren. The efforts of Pesantren to gain public trust are carried out in earnest to provide satisfaction to the community as "graduate users" at Pesantren and Wali Songo Ngabar. The research method used qualitative with a case study approach. The results achieved began with formulating a strategy to increase public trust carried out by Wali Songo through several stages, namely planning, organizing, actuating and controlling, related to strategies to gain public trust. Its implementation includes strategies in managerial, economics, and leadership. The implications for increasing public trust are in the form of economic, psychological-social, and academic regulatory implications, all of which increase the existence of pesantren in the eyes of society.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the internalization of tolerance values through religious learning at the Al-Hikmah Lasem Islamic Boarding School. The type of research used is field research, namely research that requires researchers to travel to the field to observe phenomena in a scientific context. The subjects in this study were Kiai, Ustaz, head of the boarding school, administrators, and students of Al-Hikmah Lasem. The criteria for students involved by researchers to determine research subjects were those who had lived in Islamic boarding schools for a range of two to four years. The results of this study revealed that the internalization of tolerance values at the Al-Hikmah Lasem Islamic boarding school was achieved through habituation strategies and exemplary strategies. The internalization process was carried out through religious learning both textually through book studies and contextually through examples and procedures for socializing and tolerance with the community. Supporting factors for achieving the internalization of the tolerance value included the motivation frequently given by caregivers, Ustaz, and administrators to the students of the Al-Hikmah Lasem Islamic Boarding School; the condition or environment of the Al-Hikmah Lasem Islamic Boarding School; the existence of supporting facilities at the Al-Hikmah Lasem Islamic Boarding School. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors comprised the different backgrounds of students and the lack of interaction between students and the Chinatown community.

Abstract

This research aims to explore Amin Abdullah's thoughts regarding the new paradigm of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the 21st century. The aim of this research is to contribute to learning for Islamic Religious Education teachers to be more open to knowledge outside their field. As such, in the learning process, they are more creative in applying approaches and methods in learning tools, processes, and evaluation. The method used in this research was a literature study, which analyzed research results from journals, proceedings, and books with the same theme. For its analysis, this research used a relatively new book by Amin Abdullah, i.e., "Methods of Religious Studies and Islamic Studies in the Contemporary Era," which is multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary. Three findings or results were obtained from this research. First, the integration-interconnection approach developed into inter, multi, and transdisciplinary is highly relevant in meeting the needs of Islamic Religious Education in the 21st century. Second, the integration-interconnection or multi, inter, and transdisciplinary approach can be used as a reference in improving Islamic Religious Education learning. Third, the urgency of the multi, inter, and transdisciplinary approach lies in the figure of the educator (teacher or lecturer) as the spearhead of educational change because they are the ones who are in direct contact with the next generation at the grassroots and are the actors in educational change.

Abstract

This research intends to discover the multicultural epistemology at Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). So far, Westerners and some university graduates have dominated the discourse on multicultural education, even though pesantren, with their distinctive intellectual capital, have their own perspectives on understanding, developing, and practicing multicultural education. Using phenomenological qualitative research on two pesantrens in Indonesia, this study uncovered that pesantrens have significant multicultural capital through personal, structural, or relational knowledge. For pesantren, multicultural education is not only an anthropological issue but rather a manifestation of the theology of humanity. Multicultural education for pesantren is a legacy of traditions of freedom of opinion, openness to differences, and the essence of humanity.
The Amalgamation of Traditional and Contemporary Elements in Islamic Education

Abstract

This study uses Prophet Muhammad's integrated paradigm of Islamic intellectual heritage, which formed the epistemic foundation of the Medinah civilization. If Muslim scientists believed that expertise in one scientific field required proficiency in others or encyclopedic knowledge, polymath scientists have been replaced by highly specialized scientists who ignore these broader scientific regions. Contemporary Islamic scientific references, as a result, lack hybridity. Western knowledge typically trumps Islamic wisdom in scientific credibility. This study, thus, collected and analyzed data using qualitative methodologies and library resources. This study focuses on exploratory qualitative data from the perspectives of various scholars on the "Integration of Knowledge," aiming to reformulate an integration between traditional and contemporary knowledge that is adaptive in Indonesia’s education. Many epistemology studies have concentrated on Islamic literature and ignored Western knowledge. Unlike modern Eurocentrism, certain scientific integration studies value all information sources equally.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the failure of language learning from traditional methods. This method does not provide a chance for students to practice the language that makes the alinated from the target language. On this basis, Dual-Language Sinking model was developed for language learning which will bridge learning with the daily lives of students to achieve the expected language competencies. This literature review will try to explore what language competencies are needed by students to be said as language competent users and what are the ideal patterns of language learning to develop their language competencies. Finally, the Dual-Language Sinking model will be explained as a offered model to develope language competencies and how to implement the model. The results of this study indicate that competent language users are those who are able to function their language skills and knowledge in their daily activities. To develop students who are competent in language, the learning conditions must be designed as naturally as possible as students' first language environment. This can be achieved by implementing a dual-language sinking as bilingual program. This model uses the target language as the language of instruction in learning and students' daily lives, so that students will develop their language competence through their daily habits.
