Abstract

This study aims to explore the efforts of school superintendents in managing the changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to a decline in the quality of process standards in schools, and to measure the results. Examining the issue of declining the quality of process standard by using change management strategy has not been conducted in earlier studies. This research used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological type. This research took place at elementary school in Ponorogo. The informants in this research consisted of school superintendents who are members of Ponorogo Branch of the Indonesian School Supervisors Association (APSI) as well as principals of elementary schools in Ponorogo. The results of this research revealed that: first, school supervisors have managed the changes that occur in their target schools through ADKAR steps combined with technology, namely: awareness, desire, knowledge, ability and reinforcement which are supported by using information technology. Second, the success of change management in improving the quality of process standards could be divided into three points, namely improvement, stagnation and decline.

Abstract

Environmental degradation and climate change are urgent ethical and theological challenges prompting faith-based responses. In Islam, the principles of tauhid (oneness), khilafah (stewardship), and amanah (sacred trust) are reframed into an ecological ethic affirming environmental care as a religious duty. This study aims to explore how Muhammadiyah constructs its eco-theological discourse by analyzing peer-reviewed works from 2021 to 2024 through an integrative literature review and summary matrix. The analysis identifies three core dimensions: theology, education, and activism. Muhammadiyah expands al-Ma’un theology to include ecological justice, embeds environmental values in educational institutions, and promotes activism through legal advocacy, fatwas, and grassroots movements. These efforts position Muhammadiyah as an ethical force in environmental governance. Findings reveal a holistic, replicable model integrating theology, education, and civic action. The study also acknowledges limitations, including limited institutional resources and the absence of empirical evaluation of long-term impacts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how Islamic digital literacy and digital religious identity influence santri religious behavior. The research addresses the issue of increasing digital exposure among pesantren students and how this exposure shapes their religious expression. The study employs a quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (SmartPLS4) and involves 100 Madrasah Aliyah students from both salaf and modern pesantren in Kudus, Indonesia. The results show that Islamic digital literacy and digital religious identity significantly predict religious behavior, both directly and indirectly through attitudes toward technology. The findings that pesantren culture strengthens the effect of attitudes on religious behavior. This study contributes a mediation moderation model that explains how digital competence, identity, and cultural context interact to shape religious behavior among santri, offering insights for culturally grounded digital literacy development in Islamic education.

Abstract

This study develops and tests the BALIGH (Basic, Awareness, Loyalty, Insight, Growth, Help) instructional model in Islamic Religious Education to prepare students for aqil baligh amid the challenges of pseudo-maturity. Using an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design, qualitative interviews, document analysis, and classroom observations, this study informed the six-stage syntax; a one-group pretest-posttest trial (N = 60) then examined its effectiveness with a six-dimension aqil baligh readiness scale. Paired t-tests, effect sizes, reliability analysis, and N-gain showed substantial improvement from 33.82 to 61.85 (Δ = 28.03; p < .001; N-gain = 0.695), with no low-gain students. The findings demonstrated that BALIGH effectively integrates conceptual-fiqh strengthening, character formation, help-seeking, and school-family support. The model has contributed a theory-grounded, practically applicable toolkit for puberty-focused IRE, and offers a validated structure for monitoring students’ aqil baligh readiness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze efforts to reconstruct religious moderation education based on inclusive values at Salaf Islamic School, focusing on strategies, student responses, and challenges faced in its implementation. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with religious scholars, teachers, and students, as well as participant observation. Data analysis was conducted thematically based on the Miles and Huberman model—including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results revealed that the implementation of three main strategies—(1) curriculum integration that combines religious teachings with national values, human rights, and tolerance; (2) dialogic learning methods that foster critical thinking and active participation; and (3) the creation of an inclusive environment through cross-community social activities and the acceptance of students from diverse backgrounds—had a significant impact on fostering moderate and open attitudes among students. The majority of students demonstrated increased empathy, openness to differences, and commitment to a harmonious national life, although a small number still resisted due to the influence of exclusive ideologies. Despite facing challenges such as limited resources, cultural resistance, and pressure from conservative groups, the Islamic boarding school managed to maintain this transformation through teacher training, internal dialogue, and external partnerships. These findings not only demonstrate that traditional religious education can be revitalized into an effective vehicle for contextual and inclusive religious moderation, but also offer a concrete model that can be replicated by other Salafi Islamic boarding schools in an effort to counter radicalism and strengthen social cohesion amidst the fragmentation of contemporary society.

Observation and documentation complemented the data collection technique. Data analysis involved condensing data, displaying data, and drawing and verifying conclusions. The results of the study revealed that the integration between Akidah Akhlak education and talqin dhikr qadiriyah naqshabandiyah Suryalaya Sirnarasa was carried out by careful planning using a spiritual approach by carrying out daily amaliyah (daily dhikr), weekly amaliyah (khotaman), and monthly amaliyah (manakiban). The contribution of the research provides a new method in Islamic education in the form of integrating spirituality values in Islamic religious learning in formal schools.

Abstract

This study examined the social dynamics of Smart Class Initiative (SCI) students within a pesantren-based education system at SMA Unggulan Haf-Sa Zainul Hasan BPPT Genggong Probolinggo. Drawing on Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences and the Indonesian Ministry of Education Regulation No. 12/2024 on gifted education, the research addressed common social challenges among excellent students, such as feelings of alienation and reduced peer interaction. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observations at school and dormitory settings, and literature reviews. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model and Johnny Saldana’s coding techniques. The findings revealed that SCI services did not create social gaps between SCI and regular students. Pesantren activities have encouraged active social engagement manifested through academic collaboration and mutual support. From Alfred Adler’s perspective, regular students’ feelings of inferiority stimulated positive social compensation reinforced by Islamic ukhuwah, resulting in an inclusive environment. The study highlighted the pesantren’s role as a mediator that has prevented introversion among excellent students. However, its single-site focus limits generalization, indicating the need for future comparative research.
