<![CDATA[Poetry is one of the kinds of literary works that can be used by the author to say his or her feeling based on the situation and condition at the time the work is written. William Blake is a big poet. He writes most of his work to criticize the situation of the society. This paper has a purpose to analyse the poem of William Blake entitled “The Little Black Boy”. The writer wants to analyse and examine the intrinsic and extrinsic elements of the poem. The poem entitled “The Little BlackBoy”has three kinds of figures of speech, there are denotation and connotation, imagery, and simile. The writer uses sociological theory to analyse the extrinsic discussions. The discussions are about the relation between the society and the poem, and the religious view of William Blake through the poem. The writer finds that in this poem, William Blake uses a lot of words that can be interpreted as his thought about situation at that time. ]]>

<![CDATA[Bahasa merupakan suatu alat yang penting dalam berkomunikasi. Bahasa memiliki peran yang penting dalam berinteraksi dengan sesama. Bahasa bisa digunakan untuk menyampaikan informasi dan pesan serta mengekspresikan perasaan. Pesan ataupun informasi tersebut bisa disampaikan secara lisan maupun tulisan, misalnya dalam banner atau dalam kampanye. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis meneliti Mood Sytem yang terdapat dalam banner Calon Legislatif 2014. Penulis ingin mengetahui bagaimana para Calon Legislatif mengekspresikan sikap serta pendapat mereka sebagai pembicara dan bagaimana mereka menempatkan posisi mereka dalam menyampaikan pesan, gagasan atau tujuan kepada masyrakat melalui Mood Structure. Penelitian ini menggunakan Metode Deskriptif Kualitatif serta Metode Padan dan Metode Agih dalam menganalisa data. Adapun teori yang digunakan yaitu Teori Functional Grammar oleh Gerrot dan Wignell. Dari 10 data Calon Legislatif, penulis menemukan 60% klausa yang merupakan Declarative Mood serta 40% klausa Imperative Mood. Selain itu, Residue yang terdapat dalam klausa tersebut beragam. Dalam banner tesebut, para calon legisaltif berusaha mencari simpati masyrakat agar mendukung mereka di Pemilihan Calon Legislatif 2014.]]>

<![CDATA[The experience that young people get has an effect to their personality and their problem solving. This is why older people tend to be more mature than the young people. In Diana Wynne Jones’ Howl’s Moving Castle, the main character has a development in her personality through experiences. Her experiences lead her to how she solves her problems while she unconsciously uses defense mechanism. In this case, in this study will be analyzed the characteristic of the main character, Sophie, when she faces a problem while using defense mechanism. The defense mechanism also helps Sophie to break her curse. The study uses psychoanalysis approach to analyze Sophie’s defense mechanism. Her defense mechanism becomes a habit whenever she has problems. Sophie solves her problem not by making it clear, but by reacting toward her fear into its opposite acts (reaction formation). She also refuses to acknowledge the event that happens to her (denial), makes excuse for the things she does (rationalization), and suppresses her unwanted feeling into something pleasant (suppression). Her defense mechanism soon changes her personality without her notification and it helps her reach the goal she thinks she will never get, that is to have an interesting future.]]>

<![CDATA[I am Legend is a film that tells about a military scientist who struggles to save human extinction from zombie virus. The purpose of this paper is to show the nature of heroism which exist in the protagonist’s characters. The writer uses library research in collecting the data. This analysis is supported by intrinsic elements as cinematography. In analyzing the extrinsic elements, the author uses the theory of heroism. The result of this paper is that Neville shows heroism act such as being decisive, creative in finding solution, being a religious man, helping and fighting the enemy. Those are aspects which represent characteristics of heroism in Neville. ]]>

Artikel ini menceritakan bagaimana Australia bereaksi terhadap Pemerintah Indonesia mengenai hukuman mati yang dijatuhkan kepada penyelundup obat-obatan terlarang asal Australia.Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan final project ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif yang sistemis, nyata dan akurat. Dalam pengumpulan data, penulis melakukan note taking, dalam artikel dari situs berita theguardian.com.Tujuan dalam penulisan project ini adalah untuk menemukan arti fungsional dalam artikel tersebut. Arti fungsional akan membantu pembaca meng-intrepetasikan artikel ini dengan tepat. Untuk menemukan arti fungsional dari setiap klausa dalam artikel ini, penulis menggunakan teori metafunction. Teori metafunction dibagi menjadi tiga bagian yaitu Ideational Meaning, Interpersonal Meaning dan Textual Meaning.]]>

<![CDATA[Fenomena bahasa implikatur atau makna tersirat sering digunakan dalam slogan-slogan iklan suatu produk di Indonesia, salah satunya pada slogan rokok. Slogan iklan rokok sering menggunakan implikatur atau makna tersirat pada iklannya dikarenakan adanya aturan pemerintah yang melarang penggunaan kalimat persuasif ataupun sugestif pada konten iklan rokok. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis mengidentifikasi 10 slogan iklan rokok yang terdapat di Indonesia. Tujuan penulis melakukan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi makna yang tersirat atau implikatur yang tersirat pada setiap slogan, selain itu penulis juga mengidentifikasi setiap pelanggaran-pelanggaran maksim yang terjadi ditiap slogan dan juga mengkatagorikkan slogan sesuai jenis-jenis implikatur. ]]>
