Abstract

In this thesis, the writer analyzes a novel by Rainbow Rowell entitled Landline. The novel tells about a woman who is in confusion to choose between her family and her job. The purposes of the thesis are to analyze and to explain the guilt that is faced by the main character, Georgie McCool, and her attempt to resolve the guilt. Several theories such as the five stages of grief proposed by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross and the theory of guilt by Guy Winch are used in order to analyze the issue. Other theories regarding workaholism and stereotypes of woman from various experts are also used. In order to analyze the data, the writer uses internet and library research. After conducting the analysis, the result shows that the main character of the novel has more masculine than feminine traits. She also suffers from disloyalty guilt, and it forces her to undergo the five stages of grief, such as denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

Abstract

"My Humps" is a song by The Black Eyed Peas. The lyrics and the music video tell about the relationship between the man (Will.i.am) with the woman (Fergie), who Will.i.am always flirts with Fergie and always asks her for dating. Although Fergie always refuses him but she also flirts the man to show off her sexy body. The purpose of this study is to analyze the poetic elements in the lyrics and to show the readers the psychological contents, as portrayed in the music video. This study uses textual and contextual theories to analyze the data. Meanwhile, close reading, close listening, and close viewingas research method are used to compile the object of “My Humps” music video. The content of this study is the existence of psychoanalysis through Sigmund Freud’s theory in American hip-hop music included id, ego,superego, defense mechanism, psychosexual, and interracial viewpoint reflected in lyrics and scenes in the music video of "My Humps".

Abstract

Pemakaian gaya  bahasa oleh seseorang atau sekelompok orang tergantung pada tujuan tertentu. Dalam skripsi ini penulis tertarik pada pemakaian gaya bahasa beserta tujuan dipakainyagaya bahasa tersebut oleh penulis judul Koran pada Koran harian Lampu Hijau. Gaya bahasa yang dipakai dalam penulisan judul berita Koran harian Lampu Hijau cenderung menyimpang dari judul berita pada umumnya. Apabila Koran pada umumnya memakai bahasa yang formal dan efektif, judul berita dalam Koran harian Lampu Hijau justru memakai bahasa non formal, lucu, dan frontal.Tujuan penulisan skripsi ini adalah untuk mendiskripsikan gaya bahasa apa saja yang dipakai dalam judul-judul berita Koran harian LampuHijau, fungsi pemakaian gaya bahasa, faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pemakaian gaya bahasa tersebut serta untuk membuktikan apakah judul-judul berita dalam Koran harian LampuHijau menyimpang atau tidak dari aturan jurnalistik tentang penulisan judul berita. Data yang dipakai dalam skripsi ini berasal dari judul-judul berita Koran harian LampuHijau dari berbagai rubric berita yaitu, politik, sosial, kriminal, ekonomi dan bisnis, hiburan dan diskusi dewasa serta olahraga.Data yang digunakan berupa frasa dan kalimat dalam judul berita. Metode pengambilan sample menggunakan metode simak oleh Sudaryanto. Sedangkan dalam menganalisa data, penulis menggunakan metode padan oleh Sudaryanto. Hasil analisa menujukkan bahwa sebagian besar judul berita dalam Koran harian Lampu Hijau menggunakan gaya bahasa non formal.

Abstract

Esei ini menganalisis tentang perjuangan Marlene dan Joan melawan masyarakat patriarki dalam drama Top Girls karya Caryl Churchill (1982). Tujuan dari esei ini adalah menjelaskan dan menganalisis unsur-unsur intrinsik dan ekstrinsik pada cerita tersebut. Unsur-unsur intrinsik yang dianalisis meliputi karakter, latar, dan konflik, sementara pada unsur ekstrinsik penulis menggunakan teori feminisme dari Bell Hooks (1984). Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis cerita pada drama tersebut adalah penelitian pustaka dan pendekatan sosial. Metode penelitian pustaka digunakan penulis dalam memperoleh sumber dari buku-buku terkait di perpustakaan dan berbagai rujukan lainnya melalui internet, sementara pendekatan sosial digunakan penulis untuk menganalisis objek penelitian. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa Marlene dan Joan harus berusaha untuk mendapatkan kedudukan sosial yang setara dengan laki-laki. Meskipun perjuangan mereka untuk mendapatkan kesetaraan tersebut tidaklah mudah, namun pada akhirnya mereka berhasil memperoleh hak yang sama dengan laki-laki di masing-masing bidang yang mereka perjuangkan. Marlene sukses meraih jabatan sebagai direktur utama di tempat kerjanya, Top Girls Employment Agency, yang pada umumnya dikuasai oleh kaum laki-laki; sementara Joan berhasil meraih kesetaraan hak dengan laki-laki dalam hal pendidikan.

Abstract

This thesis focuses on love aspects shown in Fifty Shades Darker (2011) novel by E.L. James. Fifty Shades Darker novel describes the love relationship between the characters named Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The aim of this thesis is to prove the existence of love aspects in the novel by analyzing the intrinsic and extrinsic aspects. The writer uses library research to collect the data with the novel as the main data and several relevant books, journals, articles, also online documents and websites are used as the supporting data. The intrinsic aspects cover characters, setting, and conflicts. Meanwhile, in the extrinsic aspects, the writer elaborates Robert Sternberg’s triangular theory of love. Based on Robert Sternberg’s triangular theory of love, there are three components of love: intimacy, passion, and commitment. The result of this thesis proves that, according to Robert Sternberg’s triangular theory of love, both characters in the novel, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, have experienced intimacy, passion, and commitment in their love relationship.

Abstract

Sundanese is a langugae which is used in Bogor, West Java as cultural identity. The use of Sundanese in Bogor is greatly decreasing because of the use of Indonesian as the national langugae. This phenomenon also leads up the teenagers in Bogor to use Bahasa Indonesia rather than Sundanese. Therefore this research is purposed to find out the certain domain in using Bahasa Indonesia, and the factors that influence the use of Bahasa Indonesia. To get the accurate results, the research is done by collecting the questioner from the teenagers. The observation about what kind of language which is used by the teenagers also supports to get explanation in detail. Therefore, the research concludes that Bahasa Indonesia has replaces Sundanese, which is vernacular language in Bogor.  The research found out that the teenagers use Bahasa Indonesiain some certain domains. The factors that support the teenagers in using Bahasa Indonesia are their family, domain, attitudes, and the economic, social and political factors.

Abstract

This thesis discusses a novel entitled Matildaby Roald Dahl. The aims of the thesis are to explain and to analyse the intrinsic and extrinsic aspects of the story. The analysis will be focused on The Wormwoods where patriarchal practice happens. The result of this thesis describes the meaning of the representation of patriarchal ideology in Matilda which is the representation of woman are considered to have lower status than men. The method used in obtaining the data is library research and additional data from the internet. With an analysis of The Wormwoods, it can be concluded that the representation of patriarchal ideology in Matilda has different impacts for each family member Wormwood and made Matilda to choose living with her teacher.
