<![CDATA[This thesis focuses on the movie, Mean Girls, specifically one of the character, Cady Heron,as a Third Culture Kid trying to adapt in new society. The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of Third Culture Kid in the movie character in socializing with the new surroundings and explain the way how one of the characters in Mean Girls adapts to the new surroundings.The writer uses library research to collect the data with the novel as the main data, and several relevant books, journals, articles, also online documents and websites are used as the supporting data. The intrinsic aspects cover characters, setting, and conflicts. In the extrinsic aspect, the writer uses Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor’s Social Penetration Theory whichis applied in the thesis to analyze the problem. The result of this thesis proves that according to Irwin Altman and Dalmas Taylor’s Social Penetration Theory, Cady Heron uses her Third Culture Kid context to evade social isolation whilst preserving her identity through several roles in adapting in the new surroundings.]]>

<![CDATA[Cerita pendek merupakan karya sastra yang mengandung ekspresi, ide, maupun refleksi pengalaman yang dicurahkan penulis yang bertujuan untuk menyampaikan pesan/amanat kepada pembaca. Dalam hal ini, ideational meaning sebagai salah satu bidang kajian Linguistik Fungsional Sistemik (LFS) memandang bahasa sebagai sistem tanda yang dapat dianalisis secara struktural untuk menginterpretasikan pengalaman, konsep, dan ide yang ada di dalam cerpen melalui sistem transitivitas sebagai alat penentunya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan representasi nilai – nilai moral dan penokohan yang terdapat dalam cerita pendek karya Putu Wijaya yang berjudul “Peradilan Rakyat” melalui analisis ideational meaning. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dimana penulis menjelaskan hasil peneltian melalui makna ideasional yang terdapat dalam cerpen. Dalam mengumpulkan data, penulis menggunakan metode non – participant observation serta purposive sampling technique karena penulis hanya mengambil sample yang merepresentasikan nilai moral dan penokohan yang dimaksud. Metode yang digunakan dalam menganalisis data adalah metode padan referensial dan metode agih. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 6 jenis nilai moral yang terkandung dalam cerpen “Peradilan Rakyat”. Keenam jenis tersebut antara lain: Being Professional, Being Critical, Having Confidence, Having Honesty, Having Wisdom, dan Having Love.]]>

Mostly, women who are older than 25 years old and have already had good jobs choose to live in urban areas. The obsession of trying various things automatically increases. The things are, for example, social relationship, urban lifestyle, and shopping activities. When women are somehow in a situation where they receive their paychecks and suddenly some advertisements show a fifty percent discount for all items whose deadline last in a week, a very triggering question emerges: what are they going to do? This is a very tough query, particularly for those who have problem in differentiating between actual necessities and temporary desires.]]>

<![CDATA[The Fault in Our Starsis one of the American romantic movies which shows the struggle to maintain a relationship between a couple who have cancer. This thesis discusses about the consummate love with three aspects of love of Hazel grace and Augustus Waters in The Fault in Our Stars movie. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the intrinsic aspects and the extrinsic aspects of the movie. The writer uses three methods in analyzing the intrinsic aspects and the extrinsic aspects. Library research is used to collect the data for this thesis. To analyze the intrinsic aspects, the writer uses exponential approach and to analyze the extrinsic aspects, the writer uses psychological approach. In relation to psychological approach, the writer uses Triangular Theory of Love Triangular Theory of Love by Robert Stenberg to explain the extrinsic aspects. Stenberg explains that love has three components which are intimacy, passion, and commitment and consummate love is the combination of those three components of love. The finding of this thesis is the relationship between Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters depicts about consummate love because they brings the complete components of love in the movie.]]>

The writer uses intrinsic elements in analyzing the strengths and weakness and concludes that the strengths of this novel are the theme, characterization, setting of places and symbols, while the weakness of this novel is a male author who writes a female character as point of view. <![CDATA[Tujuan dari penulisan tugas akhir ini ialah untuk mengidentifikasi dan mengklasifikasi fenomena alih kode yang terjadi dalam komedi situasi “Tetangga Masa Gitu” pada episode “Demi Bola.” Penelitian ini menggunakan ancangan kuantitatif yang digabungkan dengan metode deskriptif. Data diperoleh dengan cara mengunduh video dari YouTube. Video kemudian ditonton dan disimak dengan seksama untuk menyeleksi kejadian alih kode antara bahasa Indonesia dan Inggris. Setelaha melakukan pengamatan, didapatkan hasil bahwa terdapat dua jenis alih kode yaitu inter-sentential dan intra-sentential switching dalam episode ini. Inter-sentential switching terjadi sebanyak empat belas kejadian, sedangkan intra-sentential switching terjadi sebanyak 57 kejadian. Dari 57 kejadian, intra-sentential switching terbagi atas delapan frasa dan 49 kata. Faktor sosial yang mendasari terjadinya peristiwa alih kode yang terdapat pada episode ini ialah adanya pembicaraan dengan topik tertentu dan juga fungsi afektif yang dipengaruhi oleh gaya bahasa atau perasaan penutur. Secara verbal, unsur komedi pada episode “Demi Bola” tidak terdapat dalam penggunaan alih kode.]]>

<![CDATA[Basically every individual experiences changes in their life. People change, and so do society. In the 5 Flights Up Film, the writer is interested to find the major sources of social change such as the population growth, the infrastructure development, and technological innovation that produces smartphones and the internet. Somehow, technological innovation has influenced the life style, way of living, and behavior of the society in this modern era. The writer is also interested in analyzing the types of collective behavior namely rumor, mass hysteria, and panics among the society regarding a particular issue. In analyzing this film, the writer used library research as the method of research. Objective and sociology of literature approaches are used as the method of approach. As the result, the writer is able to observe what affects Mr. and Mrs. Carver’s decision to cancel selling their house and decide to stay in their five floor apartment. Moreover, the film often represents certain issue and it highlights its perspective on the issue. Thus, the writer also emphasizes that through the film everyone can learn to gain the sense of awareness about particular phenomenon occurred within society.]]>

<![CDATA[This thesis is derived from the author’s curiosity about the formation process of a personality. Therefore, the aims of this thesis are to learn about the importance of a childhood surrounded by healthy environment and criteria that determine the normality of a person’s personality. Two antagonist characters in a novel entitled Seduction in Death by J. D Robb are used as the objects of analysis. The writer uses library research as the method of the research. The writer also uses Psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud and Sexual Disorder theory to concludes that a person’s personality has been formed since childhood and influenced by his or her childhood experiences and environment. <![CDATA[Project analisisMotherly Love in Edgar Allan Poe’s “To My Mother” mengkaji unsur intrinsik dan konsep motherly love dalam puisi To My Motherkarya Edgar Allan Poe. Penulis menggunakan studi pustaka sebagai metode pengumpulan data dan informasi tentang objek penelitian melalui buku dan internet. Penulis menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra dengan teori cinta karya Erich Fromm untuk mengetahui cinta yang diberikan ibu kepada anak. Dari hasil analisis, penulis menemukan konsep cinta yang diberikan seorang ibu kepada anaknya,dalam puisi tersebut tidak semua anak mendapat kasih sayang seorang ibu dari ibu kandungnya, namun ada orang lain yang mampu menggantikan peran ibu dan memberikan kasih sayang kepada seorang anak meskipun anak itu bukan merupakan anak kandungnya. Konsep cinta yang penulis temukan tersebut sesuai dengan konsep motherly love, teori cinta Erich Fromm.]]>
