Abstract

Abstrak Strategi pengambilan giliran adalah strategi yang digunakan di dalam berbagai interaksi, seperti wawancara, percakapan sehari hari, debat, atau berabagai macam percakapan lainnya. Penelitian ini mencoba untuk menemukan strategi pengambilan giliran pada MacLean’s National Leaders Debate 2015. Adapun penelitian ini menganalisa cara partisipan untuk membangun sebuah debat melalui strategi pengambilan giliran karena strategi tersebut memiliki peran penting untuk menganalisa debat ini. Oleh sebab itu, peneletian ini juga menganalisa alasan apa saja di balik terjadinya pengambilan giliran selama debat berlangsung. Untuk melakukan penelitian ini, metode deskriptif kualitatif dipilih untuk menganalisa data percakapan yang ada di dalam debat. Dengan menggunakan media dan metode tersebut, penelitian ini menyajikan beberapa hasil penemuan yaitu bahwasannya di dalam membangun suatu debat, seluruh peserta debat menggunakan strategi pengambilan giliran. Strategi pengambilan giliran tersebut terdiri dari tumpah tindih, interupsi, dan juga sinyal backchannel. Tumpang tindih dan interupsi adalah yang paling banyak muncul di dalam debat. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa ada beberapa alasan mengapa para pendebat dan juga moderator melakukan strategi tumpang tindih. Faktanya setiap strategi memiliki alasan sendiri. Yang pertama, tumpang tindih yang ditemukan di dalam debat dapat dikarenakan untuk memberi sinyal jengkel, memperbaiki, melengkapi, mengingatkan, merespon, memberi pertanyaan, mengambil bagian, dan juga memberikan informasi. Di samping itu, kemunculan interupsi dapat dikarenakan untuk klarifikasi, kelengkapan, dan juga mengambil giliran di dalam debat. Yang terakhir adalah sinyal backchannel yang terjadi untuk dapat merespon pernyataan pendebat yang sebelumnya. Kata kunci: pengambilan giliran, debat   Abstract Turn taking strategies are the strategies which are used for taking a turn in many kind of interactions such as interview, daily conversation, debate, or it can be many things of conversation. This study attempted to find out the turn taking strategies used by the participants of MacLean’s National Leaders Debate 2015. Meanwhile, this study concerned to analyse the way participants are constructed by the debate through the turn taking strategies because those strategies have the important roles to analyse the debate. Therefore, this study also analysed the reasons of the turn-taking during the debate. In constructing the study, descriptive qualitative method was used to analyse the data in the form of conversation in the debate. By using that media and method, the study presented findings that in constructing the debate, all the participants use the turn taking strategies. Those turn taking strategies consist of overlap, interruption, and also backchannel signals. The overlap and interruption often appeared in the debate. This study also found several reasons why the debaters and the moderator do the turn taking strategies. In fact, each of strategy have their own reasons. First, the overlaps that are found in the debate can be caused for signalling annoyance, correction, completing, reminding, responding, questioning, taking turn, and also informing. Besides, the appearance of interruption are caused by clarification, completion, and also taking the debater’s turn. The last one is backchannel signal that are emerged for only responding the previous debaters’ statement. Key words: turn-taking strategies, debate

Abstract

Abstrak Didalam percakapan, beberapa pembicara ingin menyampaikan maksud lebih dari apa yang mereka katakan. Dalam ilmu bahasa hal ini disebut dengan implikatur percakapan, yaitu ilmu yang mempelajari tentang makna dari sebuah ungkapan. Kajian ini mencoba menganalisis percakapan implikatur yang digunakan oleh wanita dan laki-laki. Dua karakter utama film yang berjudul Love Rosie (Alex dan Rosie) sebagai subyek. Studi ini difokuskan pada percakapan implikatur yang memiliki fitur gender. Selain itu, studi ini juga membahas pengaruh fitur gender terhadap implikatur. Deskripsi kualitatif digunakan sebagai metode penelitian ini untuk menganalisis data dalam bentuk frase, kata, dan kalimat. Dalam penelitian ditemukan bahwa karakter wanita lebih sering menggunkan tipe implikatur percakapan umum. Sebaliknya, karakter laki laki lebih sering menggunakan tipe implikatur percakapan khusus.  Pada kedua karakter tersebut, ditemukan 12 tipe fitur – fitur gender. Pada 12 fitur tersebut terdiri dari 5 fitur wanita (tag question, raising intonation, hypercorrect grammar, intensifier, dan Emphatic stress) dan 3 fitur pria (quantitative reference, location word, dan judgemental adjective) yang digunakan oleh karakter wanita. Sementara itu, karakter pria ditemukan menggunakan 7 fitur wanita (Lexical hedges, superpolite form, empty adjective, tag question, raising intonation, hypercorrect grammar,and intensifier) dan hanya menggunakan 1 fitur laki – laki (self reference). Hal ini merupakan sebuah penemuan yang unik dalam penelitian ini. Sehubungan dengan hal tersebut ditemukan bahwa tidak semua fitur mempengaruhi implikatur. Terdapat 2 fitur (hypercorrect grammar dan intensifier) pada karakter wanita yang tidak mempengaruhi implikatur dan 4 fitur pada karakter pria yang tidak mempengaruhi implikatur seperti tag question, superpolite form, lexical hedge dan hypercorrect grammar. Kata Kunci: implikatur, percakapan implikatur, genderlect   Abstract In the conversation, some speakers expect to convey their messages more than what they said. In linguistics it is considered as conversational implicatures that learn the meaning of the sentences. This study analyzes conversational implicatures that are used by woman and man. The two characters in Love Rosie movie (Alex and Rosie) are the subjects of this study. It is only focused on conversational implicatures which contain of gender feature and the affect of gender feature toward implicatures. This study used descriptive qualitative method since it analyzed the data in the form of phrase, word, and sentences which presented descriptively. After completing the analysis, this study found that woman more often used generalized conversational implicature rather than particularized conversational implicature. In contrary, men more often used particularized conversational implicatures. On both of the characters’ conversational implicature are found 12 types of gender features. There are five woman’s feature (tag question, raising intonation, hypercorrect grammar, intensifier, and emphatic stress) used by woman on her implicature. It is also found that she used man’s features (quantitative reference, location word, and judgemental adjective) in certain occasion. Meanwhile, the unique result found that man’s character more often used woman’s feature (lexical hedges, superpolite form, empty adjective, tag question, raising intonation, hypercorrect grammar, and intensifier) than his own feature (self reference) in the implicature. In connection to this, it is found that not all features affect the implicatures, which on woman character found 2 features (hypercorrect grammar and intensifier) do not affect her implicature, whereas there are 4 features of man character do not affect his implicature such as tag question, superpolite form, lexical hedge and hypercorrect grammar. Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan dalam penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan metode yang diterapkan untuk mengatasi seorang karakter disleksia di film Taare Zameen Par. Disleksia berhubungan dengan gangguan bahasa dan ketidakmampuan belajar yang dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan dalam membaca, menulis dan aritmatika. Kebanyakan anak disleksia memiliki masalah tersebut karena mereka tidak mengenali meteri dalam pembelajaran. Teori yang digunakan untuk masalah di penelitian ini yaitu teori Gillingham dan Stillman untuk memahami metode yang diterapkan oleh Mr. Nikum dalm mengatasi kesulitan belajar Ishaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk melakukan analisis data. Deskriptif kualitatif digunakan peneliti untuk menjelaskan setiap data yang lebih mendalam. Untuk mendapatkan data, peneliti menggunakan dokumentsi sebagai instrumen dalam penelitian ini. Data yang disajikan dalam bentuk kata dan huruf dalam film Taare Zameen Par yang dikumpulkan tidak hanya dari naskah saja tetapi dari pikiran dan perkataan karakter utama juga. Dan hasil dari penelitian ini, Mr. Nikum  menerapkan metode Gillingham dan Stillman dan memberikan Ishaan beberapa variasi dari media pengganti dalam mengajar Ishaan untuk mengatasi kesulitannya. Akhirnya Ishaan pulih dari gejala disleksia dan dia dapat membaca, menulis dan melakukan perhitungan aritmatika seperti anak anak normal. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat berguna untuk pembaca dan juga dapat menjadi refernsi untuk penelitian berikutnya.   Kata Kunci: disleksia, gangguan bahasa, ketidakmampuan belajar, persepsi   Abstract The purpose of this study is to describe the method that are applied to overcome a dyslexic character in Taare Zameen Par movie. Dyslexia is related to language disorder and learning disability which can affect abilities in reading, writing, and arithmetic. Most of dyslexic children will have trouble in that abilities, because they are not familiar with the materials in learning. The theories that are applied for this research problem is Gillingham and Stillman’s theory in understanding the method which is applied by Mr. Nikum to overcome Ishaan’s learning difficulties. This study uses descriptive qualitative method in doing analysis the data. Descriptive qualitative is used by the researcher to get more details explanation from each data. To gain the data, the researcher uses documentation as the instrument of this study. The data are in the form of words and letters from Taare Zameen Par movie which are not collected from the script only, but also from the main character’s mind and speaks. And the result of this study, Mr. Nikum applies Gilingham and Stillman method and gives Ishaan some variants of substitute medium in teaching Ishaan to overcome the difficulties. Finally, Ishaan is recovers from dyslexia symptom and he can read, write and do arithmetic calculation like a normal children. This study are expected can be useful for the reader and also can be reference for the next researcher.   Keywords: dyslexia, language disorder, learning disability, perception

Kata Kunci: pujian, tanggapanpujian, gender, Instagram Abstract Compliment response is an act of responding a given compliment. Women and men have different way when responding to the compliment. Men usually have a shorter compliment response than women. The aim of this research is to find in what way do males and females respond to the compliment differently. This study uses the theory from Holmes (1995) about compliment response, Coates (2005) and Lakoff (2004) about the characteristics of men and women language, and Eckert (2003) and Weatherall (2002)  about the reason why men and women speak differently.This study uses qualitative method to analyze the data. The data of this study were taken from a social media called Instagram which has comment section. In the comment section, there is a compliment and compliment response. There is one point of result in this study. That is male and female speaker are different in responding to the compliment based on their characteristics. Those characteristics are empty adjective vs neutral adjective, no sense of humor vs sense of humor, hedges, super polite form vs non polite form, hypercorrect grammar vs incorrect grammar, aggravated directives vs mitigated directives. Abstrak Slogan adalahsalahsatubagianterpentingdalamsebuah film. Setiap slogan dalam film memilikigayamerekamasing-masing yang membuat slogan tersebutberbedadari slogan yang lain. Penggunaanmajasbahasasebagaigayapembuatan slogan adalahsalahsatukunciuntukmembuat slogan tersebutberbedadari yang lain dandapatmenarikperhatian para pembaca yang membacanya. Selainitu slogan dalam film dapatmendukungpembentukanmaknadari film tersebut. Artidarisetiap slogan film berbedasatudengan yang lain bergantungpadakonteksdanjenisdari film tersebut. Tujuandaripenelitianiniadalahuntukmenganalisisgayadarimajasbahasadanmakna yang terbentukdarisetiap slogan film. Penelitianinimenggunakanteoritentangmajasbahasadari Perrine (1992) dan multimodal analisisdari O’Halloran (2011). Analisisdokumenmerupakanteknik yang digunakanmenggumpulkan data dalampenelitianini. Penelitianinimenggunakanmetodequalitatifuntukmenganalisis slogan film. Data dalampenelitianiniberupa poster, judul, dan slogan film.Adaduapoinutamadalampenelitianini. Yang pertamaadalahmajasbahasa yang digunakanuntukmenganalisis slogan film. Majas yang digunakandalam slogan film adalahmajarmetafora, alegori, personifikasi, sinekdok, symbol, paradox, hiperbola, dan understatement. Yang keduaadalahmakna yang terbentukdarimajasbahasadalam slogan film. Setiap slogan film memilikimaknanyamasing-masingberdasarkanpadajudul, slogan, gambar, danjenisdari film tersebut. Faktor-Faktortersebutlah yang membentukmaknadalam slogan film. Perbedaanjenisalirandalam film dapatmenimbulkanmakna yang berbedadarisetiao film. Setiap slogan film dibuatuntukmenarikperhatian para penontonuntukmelihat film tersebut Kata kunci:majasbahasa, film, slogan   Abstract Tagline is one part of the movie that has the big role for the movie. Every movie tagline always has their own style that makes them different from each other. Using the figurative language as the style of the tagline is one of the keys to make that tagline different and can attract the audience’s attention. Beside that tagline of the movie also can construct the meaning of the movie. The meaning of the tagline different from one and another depends on the context and the genre of the movie.The aim of this research is to analyze the style of the figurative language and the constructed meaning of every movie tagline. This research uses the theory from the Perrine (1992) about the figurative language and O’Halloran (2011) about the multimodal discourse analysis. Document is the technique to collect the data. This study uses the qualitative method to analyze the data. The data of this study is taken from the cover, title, and the tagline of the movie. There are two main points of the result of this study. The first is the figurative language that is used in the movie tagline. The figurative languages in the movie taglines are metaphor, allegory, personification, synecdoche, paradox, hyperbole, and understatement. Every movie tagline has their own figurative language that can construct the meaning of that tagline based on their title, tagline, picture, and genre. Different genre can cause the different meaning of the tagline. Every movie tagline is made to persuade and attract the audience’s attention to watch the movie.
