Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to improve students’ narrative writing by implementing POWER strategy combined with the animated film at class VIIIB of SMPS Kartika Kendari. It was CAR design conducted in 2 cycles. The findings showed an improvement in writing ability in which 29 students (82.85%) achieved the minimum passing grade and the rest 6 students (17.15%) were in fair level of writing, and the result of teaching and learning process showed that 82.5% respond positively. The teachers are suggested to use this strategy as an alternative way to improve the writing ability and the media that is used should be appropriate with students’ level.Key Words: POWER strategy, animated film, writing narrative Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis naratif siswa dengan menerapkan POWER strategy berbantuan film animasi pada kelas VIIIB SMPS Kartika Kendari. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan 2 siklus. Temuan-temuan menunjukan ada peningkatan kemampuan menulis dimana 29 siswa (82.85%) mencapai KKM dan sisanya 6 siswa (17.15%) berada pada tingkatan cukup dalam menulis, dan hasil proses belajar dan mengajar menunjukan 82.5% merespon dengan positif. Guru disarankan untuk menggunakan strategi ini sebagai salah satu alternatif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis dan media yang digunakan harus sesuai dengan tingkatan siswa.Kata Kunci: stategi POWER, film animasi, menulis naratif

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to find out the employment of lexical and syntactic complexities in the undergraduate students’ research articles and their correlations to their quality. It employes a quantitative design through corpus based analysis and correlation analysis using Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. The results show that lexical density, lexical sophistication, and lexical variation are high except for verb variation, noun variation, adjective variation, adverb variation and modifier variation and the sentence complexity is also high. The quality of the udergraduate students’ research articles is categorized as above good or it is only a half point needed to achieve the criteria of great research article. This research find that there is no correlation between lexical and syntactic complexities with the quality of artiles. It is expected that this article could provide information about the lexical and syntacti complexities which are needed to be improved in the undergraduate students’ research articles.Key Words: lexical complexity, syntactic complexity, article qualityAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan kompleksitas leksikal dan sintaksis pada artikel penelitian mahasiswa dan korelasinya terhadap kualitasnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif melalui analisis berbasis korpus dan analisis korelasi menggunakan koefisien korelasi momen produk Pearson. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kepadatan leksikal, kecanggihan leksikal, dan variasi leksikal tinggi kecuali pada variasi verba, variasi kata benda, variasi kata sifat, variasi adverbia dan variasi pengubah dan kompleksitas kalimat juga tinggi. Kualitas artikel penelitian mahasiswa tingkat sarjana dikategorikan sangat baik atau hanya setengah poin yang dibutuhkan untuk mencapai kriteria penelitian besar. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa tidak ada korelasi antara kompleksitas leksikal dan sintaksis dengan kualitas artikel. Diharapkan artikel ini dapat memberikan informasi tentang leksikal dan kompleksitas sintaksis yang perlu ditingkatkan dalam artikel penelitian mahasiswa.Kata kunci: kompleksitas leksikal, kompleksitas sintaksis, kualitas artikel

Abstract

Abstract: This paper aims to find out what actually the industry needs from their translators when performing Audiovisual (AV) translation, and whether the academic environment, in this case the English Department of Universitas Brawijaya Malang, has fulfilled the industrial needs. From the re-sults of academic document observation and questionnaire to owners of an Indonesian localization company, the authors make some recommendations to include the topic of AV translation in the course of translation that is currently available in the aforementioned English Department. The topic is comprised of the basic concepts of AV text and AV translation, practice of dubbing script translation, and practice of subtitling. The modification of the available course is expected to make the course more relevant to the current needs.Key Words: audiovisual translation, curriculum, instructional materials, translation course, translation pedagogyAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan industri penerjemahan dalam penerjemah-an AV serta melihat apakah lingkungan akademiknya, dalam penelitian ini adalah Jurusan Sastra Inggris Universitas Brawijaya Malang, telah memenuhi kebutuhan industri penerjemahan. Hasil observasi do-kumen akademik dan kuisioner yang diberikan kepada pemilik industri penerjemahan dan pelokalan di Indonesia, maka topik terjemahan AV dapat dimasukkan dalam mata kuliah terjemahan pada Jurusan Sastra Inggris Universitas Brawijaya Malang. Topik terjemahan AV terdiri dari konsep dasar teks AV dan terjemahan teks AV, praktik terjemahan naskah penyuaraan atau dubbing, dan praktik subtitling. Modifikasi pada mata kuliah terjemahan yang tersedia diharapkan dapat memenuhi kebutuhan industri terjemahan saat ini. Abstract

Abstract: This research purposes is prove the impact of adopting tablet PCs on enhancement of teach-ing in secondary schools of Mauritius. The research was conducted by mixed method which comprised of quantitative and qualitative approaches for the data gathering process in Mauritius schools. A sam-ple of 400 participants were asked to participate to answer the questionnaire and the data captured was analyzed using software and it is restricted to reliability analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correla-tion analysis, and custom tables’ analysis for the quantitative data. As for the qualitative data, the reac-tions collected from teachers convoked for the focus group which was analyzed and reflected upon. Results from the studies and researches have shown more positive impacts than negative ones which affect teaching in secondary schools of Mauritius. The best means, therefore, is to resort to applying Tablet PCs within education to promote teaching for efficiency and effectiveness.Key Words: tablet PCs, secondary schools, teachingAbstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membuktikan dampak adopsi tablet pada peningkatan pengajaran di sekolah menengah Mauritius. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran yang terdiri dari pendekat-an kuantitatif dan kualitatif untuk proses pengumpulan data di sekolah Mauritius. Sebanyak 400 peserta diminta untuk menjawab kuesioner dan data yang diambil dianalisis dengan menggunakan perangkat lunak dan hanya terbatas pada analisis reliabilitas, analisis statistik deskriptif, analisis korelasi, dan analisis tabel khusus untuk data kuantitatif. Adapun data kualitatif, reaksi yang dikumpulkan dari guru pada pertemuan kelompok fokus yang dianalisis dan tercermin. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dampak positif lebih banyak daripada dampak negatif yang mempengaruhi pengajaran di sekolah menengah Mauritius. Oleh karena itu, cara terbaik untuk mempromosikan pengajaran efisien dan efek-tif adalah dengan menggunakan aplikasi Tablet PC. Kata kunci: komputer tablet, sekolah menengah, pengajaran

Abstract

Abstract: PISA’s findings reported that Indonesian elementary school students (IESS) achieved their average reading comprehension ability which were below the standard set by OECD. This research proposed school literacy movement (SLM) as an apparatus to cultivate IESS reading and writing skill habit. SLM served as the basis for achieving the 2013 Curriculum requirement. This study applied quasi-experimental method with employed sample of 126 IESS of 5th and 4th graders and their teachers serving in four schools. This study showed that there was significant effect of ITL to improve IESS reading comprehension ability of 5th graders.Key Words: Indonesian Elementary School Student (IESS), Integrated thematic Learning (ITL), Reading comprehension, School literacy Movement (SLM) Abstrak:Temuan PISA terkait skor rata-rata kemampuan membaca yang diperoleh siswa sekolah dasar Indonesia masih di bawah rata-rata negara OECD. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh pembelajaran tematik terpadu untuk meningkatkan  kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas 5 sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini  mengusung GLS sebagai sarana untuk menumbuhkembangkan pembiasaan baca-tulis siswa sekolah dasar sebagai dasar untuk mencapai tagihan Kurikulum 2013. Penelitian ini menggunakan  metode eksperimen kuasi dengan sampel 126 siswa kelas 5 dan 4 guru di 4 sekolah dasar.Penelitian menunjukan adanya pengaruh yang signifikan pembelajaran tematik terpadu untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas 5 sekolah dasar.Kata kunci: Indonesian Elementary School Student (IESS), Integrated thematic Learning (ITL), Reading comprehension, School literacy Movement (SLM)
