Abstract

Generation Z (Gen Z) faces unique psychospiritual challenges in the digital era, including technology addiction, spiritual disconnection, and mental health issues arising from social comparison on social media. This article examines the role of Islamic guidance and counseling in addressing these challenges through an integrative approach that combines Islamic principles with modern psychology. Using a qualitative literature review method, the study identifies three key solutions: (1) dhikr and gratitude therapy based on neuroscience (QS. Ar-Ra’d: 28), (2) the counselor-as- murabbi model, integrating tazkiyatun nafs with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, and (3) an Islamic digital detox grounded in the concept of time (QS. Al-Asr). The findings suggest that integrating spiritual values (such as tawakkul and sabr) with psychological theories enhances intervention effectiveness, reducing anxiety and digital dependency. Practical implications include digital self-regulation workshops and adaptive online halaqah programs for Gen Z. This study underscores the urgency of a holistic approach that bridges the psychosocial and spiritual needs of Muslim youth.

Abstract

This study explores the intersection between Sufism and Arabic grammar by examining Nahw al-Qulub, a lesser-known work atributed to Imam al- Qushayri. While al-Qushayri is widely recognized for his seminal contributions to Sufi thought, particularly through his Risalah al- Qushayriyyah, this work demonstrates how mystical meanings can be embedded within the framework of traditional Arabic grammatical discourse (nahwu). Through a close textual analysis, the study reveals that Nahw al-Qulub reinterprets grammatical concepts with spiritual symbolism, illustrating a unique fusion of linguistic and metaphysical insights. Al-Qushairi covered several grammar issue named Aqsam al- kalam, Asma’ wa Isytiqaqiha, Mawani’ al-Sharaf, al-I’rab wa al-Bina’ and al- Badal, at five chapters in Nahw al-Qulub by which pointed three ideas from, first, makrifah, second Takhalli, Tajalli, Tahalli, and third, adab and akhlak, which is elaborated in sense of Arabic grammar. This research not only highlights the versatility of classical Islamic scholarship but also challenges the rigid boundaries between disciplines in pre-modern Islamic intellectual history. By uncovering Sufi elements in a seemingly technical genre, this paper contributes to broader discussions on the integration of spirituality in linguistic sciences within the Islamic tradition.

Abstract

This article explores the concept of Tazkiyatun Nafs (spiritual purification) as a remedy for digital stress caused by social media validation in the modern era. Drawing from Sufi teachings, it examines how platforms like Instagram and TikTok exacerbate psychological issues such as FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), envy (ḥasad), and addiction to external validation, aligning these with traditional spiritual ailments like riya (showing off) and ghurūr (self-deception). The study proposes a three-phase Sufi framework—takhalli (purification), tahalli (adornment), and tajalli (illumination)—to detoxify the psyche, emphasizing practices like dhikr (remembrance of God), muhasabah (self-reflection), and digital uzlah (seclusion). By integrating classical Sufi wisdom with contemporary psychology and neuroscience, the article highlights the efficacy of these methods in reducing cortisol levels and fostering inner peace. The findings underscore the relevance of spiritual discipline in mitigating the addictive nature of social media, offering a holistic approach to reclaiming self-awareness and tranquility in the digital age.

Abstract

This study examines the concept and practice of zuhud in the modern era from the perspectives of traditional and modern teungku dayah in Aceh Besar. In contemporary society, zuhud is often misunderstood as withdrawal from worldly life or rejection of material possessions. This research seeks to clarify such misconceptions by exploring how teungku dayah interpret and implement zuhud within changing social, economic, and cultural contexts. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional and modern teungku dayah, participant observation in dayah environments, and analysis of relevant classical and contemporary Islamic texts. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns in the understanding and implementation of zuhud in daily life, leadership, and social relations. The findings reveal that both traditional and modern teungku dayah conceptualize zuhud as inner detachment rather than physical deprivation. Zuhud is understood as an ethical–spiritual orientation that regulates attachment to worldly possessions while encouraging social responsibility, moral discipline, and balanced engagement with modern life. Differences between the two groups appear mainly in emphasis and expression, particularly in responding to contemporary lifestyles and institutional demands, rather than in the core meaning of zuhud itself. This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic spirituality by demonstrating that zuhud remains relevant in the modern era as a flexible ethical framework. Rather than functioning as an ascetic doctrine, zuhud operates as a moral guide that enables religious actors to navigate material abundance, social change, and leadership responsibilities without compromising spiritual integrity

Abstract

In modern life, humans often experience tension between material needs and inner peace, resulting in emotional imbalance that manifests in extreme religious behavior and a loss of meaning in life. This article aims to examine the role of Sufism as a bridge between emotional balance and a moderate religious attitude. This study employs a qualitative approach based on library research, integrating Sufi and psychological thought with the concept of religious moderation within the context of Islamic studies. Core Sufi values such as tazkiyat al-nafs (self-purification), mahabbah (divine love), sabr (patience), and tasamuh (tolerance) are analyzed in relation to the formation of inner balance and compassionate religious behavior. The findings reveal that inner harmony cultivated through Sufi teachings serves as the foundation for authentic and just religious moderation. Therefore, Sufism functions as a form of spiritual therapy that connects personal tranquility with social harmony. The integration of emotional balance and moderate religiosity through Sufi spirituality constitutes an essential basis for strengthening a peaceful, inclusive, and humanistic religious life.
