Abstract

Abstract. This research was conducted to find the effect of sea water cooling media on mechanical properties and physical properties of the medium carbon steel welded SMAW. Testing performed on two types of specimens were medium carbon steel welded and non-welded, quenching performed at temperatures of 850ºC, then tested the hardness, tensile strength and microstructure . The results of the study of media of sea water cooling on mechanical properties of carbon steel welded medium SMAW on tensile test is known.  the average tensile ductility in the welded specimens is lower than that is not welded. In both specimens were quenched welded and non-welded experienced an average increase in tensile ductility . However, the average value of tensile ductility  on welded specimens and quenched lower than that is not welded. In the hardness test show the increase of average of hardness against Vickers. Likewise welded specimens and quenched on average HAZ area hardness, whereas in the weld area is not quenched hardness higher than that is not welded. However, welded is lower  the hardness quenched specimens quenched and not welded. Test results on the microstructure of specimens made quenching the metal HAZ area was clear and its martensite Ferrite grain boundaries and the area looks ferrite weld metal and its martensite dominant.

Abstract

At this time along with the times a lot of problems that occur in this world like the Earth's warming temperatures globally . Human needs of the air conditioning apparatus has become a staple in our daily lives . There is also a saying that the Air Conditioner ( AC ) has become a mandatory item installed in homes without air conditioning because of the environment around the home became more sultry and hot when we were in the neighborhood . In developments at this time have many types of AC marketed like Split AC , AC Windows , Central air conditioning and so on . A capillary tube expansion device or lowering pressure so cheap that researchers sought to examine the ratio of capillary -sized 33 , 54 , and 76 cm to the temperature of an air conditioner Portable. Results comparative study of the capillary tube length obtained the lowest total heat value is 9086 , 6925 Btu / Hr and the highest is 15144.4875 Btu / Hr .

Abstract

High Speed Steel (HSS) is one of the most used material for making lathe tool, because of its ability to work under high rotation and friction condition without losing its mechanical properties significantly. on turning process, careful decision of machining parameters that matched its tool material ability for turning. In Simulation process, machining parameters which will be used in it had been researched by Pramod, Kumar, et al., (2014) with adjustments. machining parameters are feed rate at 0.24 mm/rev, spindle rotation at 1500 rpm, and main cutting angle are orthogonal cutting angle at (90). In this simulation, the writer using depth of cut variance of 1 mm, 1.5 mm, and 2 mm. purposes of using these variacuts are to find frequency and amplitude had ccured on lathe tool with different depth of cut

Abstract

Machining process to produce plastic deformation on the workpiece. Plastic deformation during the machining process are formed by friction against the cutting tools to workpieces generate furious. During the deformation process appearance residual stress on the surface which can affect the fatigue resistance, fracture strength, and corrosion. Failure in the component structure is not only due to external forces, residual stress is an important parameter in this case. The purpose of this study to analyze the residual stresses that occur on the workpiece from turning process. In the analysis performed using the Finite Element Method (FEM) with the software to obtain the desired results by entering input data including modeling of cutting tools and the workpiece. The result is a visual overview of the residual stress in the workpiece and areas of plastically deformed as a result of feeding from the cutting tools motion. 2D visual modeling using the software Ansys 12.1 with three comparison rake angle 50, 100.150 to determine the result of the residual stress on the surface of the workpiece.
