Abstract

The widespread popularity of Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is recognized as an effective approach to complementing cellular networks for the high data rate and cost effective connectivity delivered to mobile users. Efficient handover and offloading schemes for integrated WLAN and cellular networks, referred to as Heterogeneous Wireless Networks, have thus attracted lots of attentions from both academia and industry. This paper proposes a novel Multiple-Threshold based Triggering (MTT) scheme for Cellular-to-WLAN handover control. Aiming at minimizing the probability of handover failures and unnecessary handovers, three thresholds are calculated based on a variety of network parameters such as system performance requirements, radius of the WLAN coverage, user mobility and handover delays. The thresholds are then compared against the predicted user residence time and estimated channel holding time inside WLAN to make vertical handover decisions (VHDs). Simulations were carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of MTT and results show that MTT minimizes handover failures and avoids unnecessary handovers in integrated cellular and WLAN networks, thus providing satisfactory Quality of Service (QoS) to users and improving system resource utilization.

Abstract

The detection of transmitted data collusion among sensing nodes needs to be resolved at data link layer. It takes a lot algorithm calculation effort and time constraint. A new method to sense the performance of cognitive radio (CR) by avoiding interference based on new master node (MN) algorithm. Interference could be reduced significantly by using only PHY (physical) information of the cognitive radio network. It saves a lot computational on above layer and detect the collusion of transmitted data as early as possible. By using a novel MN algorithm at PHY layer, it reduces the cost of computation and time to detect and avoid collusion of transmitted data.

Abstract

Journal articles are required all researchers as references to improve the quality of research so that the results are better than existing studies. The presence of many journal indexers that collect articles from many publishers and repositories are very helpful to lecturers and researchers to locate articles in their specific areas of interest. The main issues in the indexing include: (i) the selection and collection process articles data, (ii) the management of indexing based on source and relevance of science (iii) the accuracy and speed of the search process, and (iv) the relationship between the articles each other called citation. The desirable by readers from the indexer is to get relevant and good-quality articles easily and accurately. While the interest of the journal managers is to supply their article which reader preferred then hope many cited to their journals. This is where the position of an indexer to bridge publisher and reader. This paper presents the architecture of Indonesian Publications Index (IPI) as the bridge. This architecture is designed with three layers. The layers are the data collection layer, storage layer, and service layer. The functionality of the first layer is IPI collaboration with publishers, the second layer is the index management system, the third layer is a service to the readers. Service layer built on a variety of applications such as web based applications, mobile applications and e-library.

Abstract

It is the general character of most engineering systems that failure statistical correlation of elements exists in the fatigue happened process due to the twin loads.Based on randomized Basquin equation, the constitutive relations are established between element life and random variable including twin loads, initial strength, fatigue strength exponent.Product-moment correlation coefficients are derived and used to quantify the dependence of logarithm life of elements.Aim at fatigue life correlation of elements in structural systems, the computation model of the system reliability is preliminarily established by means of using copula function. The new model can express the dependence of elements fatigue life in structural systems, can be used probability prediction of structural systems under common stochastic cyclic load, which gives a new path for reliability-based design and probability assesment in equipment systems with multi-mode damage coupling.

Abstract

Biometric researches have been interesting field for many researches included facial recognition. Crucial process of facial recognition is feature extraction. One Dimensional Linear Discriminant Analysis is one of feature extraction method is development of Principal Component Analysis mostly used by researches. But, it has limitation, it can efficiently work when number of training sets greater or equal than number of dimensions of image training set. This limitation has been overcome by using Two Dimensional Linear Discriminant Analysis. However, search value of matrix identity R and L by using Two Dimensional Linear Discriminant Analysis takes high cost, which is O(n3). In this research, the seeking of “Scatter between Class” and “Scatter within Class” by using Discriminant Analysis without having to find the value of R and L advance are proposed. Time complexity of proposed method is O(n2). Proposed method has been tested by using AT&T face image database. The experimental results show that maximum recognition rate of proposed method is 100%.

Abstract

The ejection fraction rate is a frequently used parameter when treating patients who suffered from heart disease. However, the measurement of this ejection rate depends on manual segmentation of left ventricle cavity in the end-systolic and end-diastolic phases. This paper proposes a semi-automatic algorithm for the detection of left ventricular border in two dimensional long axis ultrasound echocardiographic images. First, we apply a preprocessing filter to the ultrasound for the sake of speckle reduction. Then the knowledge of the anatomical structure of human heart and local homogeneity of blood pool is being used to detect the border of left ventricle. The proposed method evaluates 80 ultrasound images from four healthy volunteers and the generated contours are compared with contours manually drawn by an expert. The measured Dice Metric and Hausdorff Distance recorded by the proposed algorithm are 85.1% ± 0.4% and 3.25 ± 0.46 mm respectively. The numerical results reported in this paper indicate that the proposed algorithm is able to correctly segment the left ventricle cavity and can be used as an alternative to manual contouring of left ventricle cavity from ultrasound images.

Abstract

This paper reviews different types of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques for solar photovoltaic (PV) application. Since the PV output power is known affected by sun radiation and temperature, it is necessary to search for an effective method for extracting maximum amount of power from PV cell/modules. In this study, a total of seven control algorithms were selected, comprising the most popular methods among the established techniques. A comparison in terms of convergence speed, complexity, as well as the basic concept of each method had been carried out for future reference. Based on the accessible simulation results, modified Perturb and Observe (P&O) method had shown its effectiveness for obtaining actual maximum power point while solving major drawbacks of the conventional P&O. This paper also discusses typical solar MPPT system, including the pros and cons of each part of the system.

Abstract

Over the last few years coverage and connectivity of wireless ad hoc networks have fascinated considerable attention. The presented paper analyses and investigates the issues of k-connectivity probability and its robustness in wireless ad hoc-network while considering fading techniques like lognormal fading, Rayleigh fading, and nakagami fading in the ad hoc communication environment, by means of shadowing and fading phenomenon. In case of k-connected wireless sensor network (WSNs), this technique permits the routing of data packets or messages via individual (one or more) of minimum k node disjoint communication paths, but the other remaining paths can also be used. The major contribution of the paper is mathematical expressions for k-connectivity probability.

Abstract

Long Term Evolution (LTE) is the next step (fourth generation) mobile radio communication technology that succeeds the HSPA.3GPP standardization body. LTE is expected to be the most competitive radio technology in the future to provide high-data-rate transmission, low latency, improved service and reduced costs. This paper focuses on one of the basic steps in the LTE network planning, by employing LTE dimensioning process, such as link budget and planning, for uplink and downlink coverage, as well as categorization of simulated received signal strengths. Also, a comparison of different propagation models, used by ATDI software (free-space, Okumura / Hata / David, Stanford University Interim (SUI), COST-231 Hata and ITU -R 525/526 Deygout). The Okumura / Hata / David’s model showed the highest received power sensitivity (-61 dBm, at 3 km separation distance), while COST-231 Hata model shows the lowest sensitivity at same distance (-96 dBm). In this paper, ATDI planning LTE radio planning software platform has been used for estimating the coverage of UTM, which is a dense urban environment.
