Abstract

Wire optimization has become one of the greatest challenges in today’s circuit design. This paper presents a method for wire optimization in circuit routing using an improved ant colony optimization with Steiner nodes (ACOSN) algorithm. Circuit delay and power dissipation are primarily affected by the length of the routed wire. Thus, the main goal of this proposed algorithm is to find the shortest route from one point to another using an algorithm that relies on the artificial behavior of ants. The algorithm is implemented in the JAVA programming language. The proposed ACOSN algorithm is compared with the conventional ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm in terms of efficiency and routing performance when applied to three types of circuits: emitter-coupled logic, 741 output and a cascode amplifier. The performance of the proposed method is analyzed based on circuit information such as total wire routing, total number of nets, total wire reduction, terminals per net and total terminals. From the simulation analysis, it is shown that the proposed ACOSN algorithm gives the most benefit to complex circuits, where it successfully reduces the wire length by 21.52% for a cascode amplifier circuit, 14.49% for a 741 output circuit, and 10.43% for emitter-coupled logic circuit.

Abstract

In this paper, we present multiple bit error correction coding scheme based on extended Hamming product code combined with type II HARQ using shared resources for on chip interconnect. The shared resources reduce the hardware complexity of the encoder and decoder compared to the existing three stages iterative decoding method for on chip interconnects. The proposed method of decoding achieves 20% and 28% reduction in area and power consumption respectively, with only small increase in decoder delay compared to the existing three stage iterative decoding scheme for multiple bit error correction. The proposed code also achieves excellent improvement in residual flit error rate and up to 58% of total power consumption compared to the other error control schemes. The low complexity and excellent residual flit error rate make the proposed code suitable for on chip interconnection links.

Abstract

A wireless sensor networks (WSNs) play a significant application, especially in the monitored remoting environmental, which enables by the availability of sensors which are cheaper, smaller, and intelligent. The equipment of such sensors be with wireless interfaces, which a communication with other sensors occurs for creating a network, that contains many distributed nodes. The closest nodes to the sink are exploited at an enormous traffic load while the data from the whole regions are forwarded between them to reach the sink. This result in exhausting their energy quickly and partitioning the network. This is solved by changing the sink node position in Grid based clustering technique, which considers the optimal method for this purpose. A simulation with MATLAB can be applied for grid based clustering technique to evaluate the performance of WSN. The expected results deal with outperforms in throughput, reducing energy consumption and increasing residual energy, in addition to prolong the network lifetime of the sensor network

Abstract

The paper presents the electrochemical performance of supercapacitor with glass wool separator under organic electrolyte of tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TEABF4). The performance was evaluated using symmetrical two-electrode system and compared to an identical supercapacitor with commercially available cellulose paper separator under 1 M TEABF4. The application of glass wool separator reduces the bulk resistance of supercapacitor by 19.6%, promotes more efficient ions transfer across active surface of electrode and significantly improves specific capacitance by 19.1% compared to cellulose paper. The application of higher concentration TEABF4 (1.5 M) even improves the overall performance of glass wool-based supercapacitor by 32.2% reduction of bulk resistance and 61.9% increment in specific capacitance compared to 1 M TEABF4. In addition, the energy and power densities are significantly improved by 64% and 165%, respectively for the one with 1.5 M TEABF4. In general, the low-cost material glass wool material has great potential to replace commercially available cellulose paper as separator in developing much better supercapacitor.

Abstract

This paper provided a comparative study between linear and nonlinear controllers of a solar photovoltaic (PV) water pumping system using an induction motor and a centrifugal pump. For linear controller, classical Perturb and Observe was selected to ensure the operation of the PV system at the maximum power point (MPP) and is combined with Indirect Rotor Field Oriented Control (IRFOC) based on a conventional proportional integral speed regulator chosen to control and to optimize the rotor speed. In second and third controllers, Backstepping and first order sliding mode controls were proposed for controlling the whole system. To regulate and optimize rotor speed in the nonlinear controller, all considered control techniques were combined with IRFOC in order to establish easy control laws. In addition, MPP was tracked by acting on the DC-DC converter and using its mathematical model for developing control laws. Maximum delivered power was used as reference signal for optimizing actual rotor speed. The controlled system is operated without mechanical sensors. Estimators of rotor speed and load torque were proposed based on the mathematical model of induction motor and centrifugal pump and using only available output measurements.. Simulation results were investigated and the effectiveness of the nonlinear proposed strategies.

Abstract

This study was aiming at helping visually impaired people to detect and estimate the fire distance. Blind people had difficulty knowing the existence of fire at a safe distance; hence the possibility of burning could occur. The color models and blob analysis methods were used to detect the presence of fire in the blind path. Before the fire detection stage, the cascade of the HSV and RGB color models was applied to segment the reddish fire color. The size and shape of a dynamic fire were the parameters used in this paper to distinguish fire from non-fire objects. Changes in the area of the fire object obtained at the Blob analysis stage per 10 frames were the main contributions and novelty in this paper. After the fire is detected, the calculation of the fire distance to a blind person was completed using a pinhole model. This research used 35 data videos with a resolution of 480x640 pixels. The results showed that the fire detection system and the distance estimation achieved an accuracy of 88.86% and the MSE of 0.0358, respectively.

Abstract

This study attempted to combine SSA (Singular Spectrum Analysis) with other methods to improve the performance of forecasting model for time series with a complex pattern. This work discussed two modifications of TLSAR (Two-Level Seasonal Autoregressive) modeling by considering the SSA decomposition results, namely TLSNN (Two-Level Seasonal Neural Network) and TLCSNN (Two-Level Complex Seasonal Neural Network). TLSAR consisted of a linear trend, harmonic, and autoregressive component. In contrast, the two proposed hybrid approaches consisted of flexible trend function, harmonic, and neural networks. Trend and harmonic function were considered as the deterministic part identified based on SSA decomposition. Meanwhile, NN was intended to handle the nonlinearity relationship in the stochastic part. These two SSA-based hybrid models were contemplated to be more flexible than TLSAR and more applicable to the series with an intricate pattern. The experimental studies to the monthly accidental deaths in USA and daily electricity load Jawa-Bali showed that the proposed SSA-based hybrid model reduced RMSE for the testing data from that obtained by TLSAR model up to 95%.
