Abstract

Literary work is a creation of creative work. One of the functions of literature is as a medium to manifest human life through language. In other words, literature is a reflection of society. Gender inequality has always been an interesting issue because patriarchal culture is still deeply rooted in the Indonesian community. The superiority and domination of men over women are also frequently mentioned and criticized through works of fiction and non-fiction found in films and novels. Especially in books both explicitly and implicitly allude to and review gender issues, as in El Alicia's Renjana novel. This research is a type of qualitative research. This research analyzes gender discrimination in the book Renjana by El Alicia. The analytical method used is discourse analysis from Sara Mills. The result shows that gender discrimination appears in El Alicia's Renjana novel. Including stereotypes, marginalization, violence, and subordination. Explicitly, the definition of stereotypes against women as voiceless creatures whose often opinions ignored in several quotes in the novel. The marginalization of women's illustration shows in the rules that bind the Gentala character as the main character. Meanwhile, the manifestation of violence against women is the domination of male characters who show superiority and power over women, as in one of the scenes of violence that Bestari experienced when he refused to serve Sang Wiyasa. Subordination with women shows in this novel, where often women's voices are ignored in discussions.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the history of the continuity of the Javanese bureaucratic model from the classical period to the Dutch colonial period. The method used is the historical method using secondary historical sources. The results show that the bureaucracy in Indonesia is the product of a long historical experience originating from Javanese culture. It was born from a bureaucracy that was initially a traditional feudal bureaucracy which was later assimilated into a rational, legal western bureaucracy that implemented this bureaucracy for almost a century under "beamtenstaat", state officials. Western bureaucracy does not necessarily eliminate the tradition of feudal-patrimonial bureaucracy but instead synergizes in the form of a feudal Colonial bureaucracy.

Abstract

Despite the widespread issue of intolerance in Indonesia, some regions can implement a harmonious life based on the values of Pancasila and Bhineka Tunggal Ika. The area is Lasem City, Rembang Regency, which consists of a multicultural community of Javanese and Chinese ethnicities. Tolerance in the multicultural Lasem community has existed since ancient times. Diverse life in Lasem develops harmoniously with empathy based on local cultural values. Local culture with messages of local wisdom based on the community is necessary for a harmonious life in a multicultural society. This study aims to analyze the local wisdom of the Lasem community for harmonizing religious life. This research is qualitative research with a case study method. Data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was performed using interactive analysis techniques: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The study results show that tolerance among Lasem people is intertwined in various aspects of life, religious life, social life, economy, politics, and culture. The local wisdom of the Lasem people is an important foundation for the community to create a harmonious life. The local wisdom that forms the basis of tolerance in Lasem includes historical stories of Lasem and teachings of Javanese-Islamic and Chinese-Confucian cultures. The values of local wisdom are proven to have a strategic role in harmonizing religious life in the Lasem community. The role of community leaders such as religious leaders and local government also holds a very high urgency in providing examples and advice related to local wisdom, always to be internalized and upheld by the community. The existence of local wisdom must always be preserved in modern society. To realize this, the role of stakeholders such as the government and community leaders is very important to work hand in hand so that local wisdom can continue to become the roots and philosophy of life for the community.

Abstract

In the context of the political history of the kingdoms of South Sulawesi up to the end of the Dutch colonial period, Maspul was interpreted as a political alliance of small kingdoms in the mountainous region of South Sulawesi. the term Maspul is interpreted as an ethnic group among several more populous ethnic groups such as the Bugis, Makassar, Luwu, Toraja (South Sulawesi), and Mandar (West Sulawesi). This paper examines the phenomenon of identity crisis experienced by the Massenrempulu ethnicity in South Sulawesi. The Massenrempulu have long internally considered themselves an ethnicity, although outsiders do not widely recognize them as an ethnic group. This article is based on research on the topic of “The Emergence of the Massenrempulu Ethnicity in South Sulawesi,” which was an ethnographic study conducted in 2015. The research also included diverse sources such as the colonial notes by government employees of the Dutch East Indies held by the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV) Jakarta. Through the application of a constructivist perspective, the socio-cultural complexity of Massenrempulu society can be explained in the historical context and understood as an ethnic group. Maspul people are an ethnicity in South Sulawesi in the same manner as the Bugis, Makassar, Luwuk, and Toraja. The Maspul ethnic group has consisted of three different subcultures, with their local histories, mythologies, and languages, which is understandable given the historical characteristics of the Maspul Federation.

Abstract

The transition of the Indonesian government from a centralized to a decentralized one, marked by the granting of autonomy to the regions to manage their regions, raises political problems. One of the political problems is the emergence of political dynasties at the sub-national level. The emergence of political dynasties in regional elections at the sub-national level in Indonesia has experienced a significant increase. For this reason, this article will research the emergence of political dynasties in regional elections at the sub-national level in Indonesia. The method used in this research is the literature study method. A literature study is related to data collection methods that involve reviewing literature, reading and taking notes, and processing research materials. The results of this study indicate that, apart from weak regulations, another aspect that causes the emergence of political dynasties is the process of political recruitment by political parties that nominate candidates based on the capacity of candidates as regional heads. Nominations for regional heads by political parties are based on the local community's political culture, which wants to maintain the status quo. Political parties carry out unfair political recruitment to nominate candidates for regional heads so that they nominate candidates from political dynasties by using the image of their predecessors, which makes the emergence of political dynasties more and more common in Indonesia, especially at the sub-national level. Therefore, the recruitment of political parties to elect regional head candidates is highly dependent on the political culture of the local community. The link between society's political culture and political recruitment has led to the emergence of political dynasties at the sub-national level in Indonesia.

Abstract

Generation Z has had enough age to join the political space. They have great potential in politics. Political parties open space for the public to participate in general election contestations as legislative candidates. Generation Z is no exception. However, the problem is when Generation Z has no interest in entering the political space. This can be motivated by the younger generation, both millennials and generation Z, who are less interested in political issues. And the absence of space and desire to channel their political desires and aspirations. This study aims to determine students' views as Generation Z and identify the processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization of the opening of political space. The method applied is a qualitative method. The theoretical perspective used is the social construction theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. The results of the study show that students as Generation Z have determined their political position in choosing candidates. However, they are not interested enough or have not had the full opportunity to join a political party).
