Abstract

Background : Hospitals in Indonesia produce large amounts of waste water, this can be infectious, contain pathogenic microorganisms and chemicals that are harmful to health and the surrounding environment. Previous studies found antibiotics as one of the ingredients in hospital wastewater, and most of the microorganisms identified from wastewater were reported to be resistant to commonly used antibiotics.Purpose : This study aims to determine the contamination of antibiotics in the wastewater system at  RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado by doing isolation and bacteria and antibiotic sensitivity tests. Methods: The type of research used is descriptive quantitative research. The sample used is wastewater from the inlet and outlet points. Isolation and bacteria were adjusted according to Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology. Sensitivity test using Kirby Bauer method with antibiotics used is clindamycin. The results are interpreted based on CLSI.Results: The bacteria that were identified were Bacillus spp., Streptococcus spp., Escherichia spp. and Staphylococcus spp.. These bacteria showed an interpretation of resistance to clindamycin, except for Bacillus spp. which could not be interpreted. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study that the bacteria Streptococcus spp., Escherichia spp. and Staphylococcus spp. which were found to be resistant in the sensitivity test, indicated the presence of antibiotic contamination in the wastewater at RSUP Prof. Dr. R. D. Kandou Manado. Keywords: Hospital waste water, identification of bacteria, sensitivity test

Abstract

Introduction: The achievement index is a measure of student success in the learning process at school. A factor that could affect the success of students to help achieve a satisfactory index during the COVID-19 pandemic is sleep quality. Having changes in daily activities can lead young adult students to not be able to control themselves when it comes to time management. Because of this, they put aside their daily activities and this messes up their sleep schedules. Objective: Determine the overview of the sleep quality and the achievement index of students in class XII of SMA Negeri 1 Manado during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methode: The type of research that is conducted is descriptive research with a cross sectional design and proportional random sampling technique, the research instrument that is used is the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire and data on achievement index scores from local agencies.Result: Total of 86 respondents participated in this study. Of all class XII students of SMA Negeri 1 Manado, 44.2% had good quality and 55.8% had poor sleep quality (55.8%), and had a high achievement index of 77.9% in the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. and by 100% during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: Some of class XII students have poor sleep quality and some have good sleep quality, and have a high achievement index in the period before the COVID-19 pandemic and during the COVID-19 pandemic.Key Words: sleep quality, adolescent, achievement index, COVID-19

Abstract

Introduction: Antibiotics are drugs that are often used to treat bacterial infections. Excessive use of antibiotics can lead to pollution if the residual waste from its use is not properly degraded. The residual waste that is not properly degraded will cause pollution to the environment where the antibiotic waste is released. Sometimes several sources of antibiotic usage do not have a good waste treatment system, some of which are hospitals. Hospitals must have a wastewater treatment system that is called Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). A good WWTP function is to degrade all kinds of waste in the hospital, so that if it is released into the environment it will not cause harmful effects such as pollution. Sometimes there is some waste that does not go through a good waste treatment system, so it has the potential to cause pollution to the environment. Antibiotics that are not properly degraded can cause pollution to the area where the waste is disposed of, one of which is sediment in the coastal area. Aim: To determine the overview of antibiotic content in the sediments of the coastal area of Manado Bay. Method: This research is a quantitative-descriptive study. Result: It was found that there was antibiotic content in the sediment which was marked by bacteria in the sediment of the area that were resistant to several types of antibiotics. Conclusion: Based on the result, there is antibiotic content in the sediments of the coastal area of Manado Bay.Keywords: antibiotics, sediment, Manado Bay.

Abstract

Background: Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new type of corona virus that emerged at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, People's Republic of China (PRC) which cause a pandemic in almost all the countries. The total number of COVID-19 cases reported on August 19, 2021 was 209,201,939 cases with a death rate of 4,390,467 in 215 affected countries. Lack of knowledge will lead to the rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, due to the massive spread of COVID-19 information and not all of the information is accurate. When people obtain wrong information, it will have a negative impact on people's behavior.Purpose: Knowing the level of public knowledge regarding compliance with health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This study used a descriptive method with a cross sectional design which was carried out from September until November 2021. There were 99 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which was obtained by using a simple random sampling technique. Results and Conclusions: The results of this study showed that: 1. 54.5% people at Environment V, West Malalayang I Village, Manado City, had a lack knowledge about COVID-19. 2. The compliance level on health protocols of the community at Environment V, West Malalayang I Village, Manado City, during the COVID-19 pandemic was 100.0%. Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 vaccination program in Palu is still ongoing. However, the public hesitancy toward the COVID-19 vaccination might impact the continuity of the program. One of the roles of university students as social control and agents of change is mobilising the community so that the COVID-19 vaccination programme can be successful. It is necessary to know how students in Palu City perceive the COVID-19 vaccine.Aim: This study aimed to describe student perceptions of the COVID-19 vaccine in Palu City. Methods: The research used a descriptive method with a cross-sectional study design. The used survey is an adoption from the research on Public Perception of the COVID-19 Vaccine in South Sumatera. We carried out an online survey via Google Form. We analysed data univariately. Results: There were 125 respondents. The results showed that of 125 respondents, 96,8% respondents had positive perceptions, and the remaining 3,2% of respondents had negative perceptions of the COVID-19 vaccine. Conclusion: The vast majority of students in Palu City have a positive perception of the COVID-19 vaccine. Keywords: perception, students, COVID-19, COVID-19 vaccine

Abstract

Background: The presence of antibiotics in the bodies of water could potentially have negative impacts on health. The release of antibiotics into the environment might cause the emergence of bacteria strains that are more resistant to antibiotics. This study aimed to identify the potential presence of cefixime in the coastal water of Manado City. Methods: This study was a susceptibility testing towards seawater sample isolated bacteria. This study used Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion methods. Results: All isolates showed resistance to cefixime. We identified four isolates: Acinetobacter spp, Staphylococcus spp, Bacillus spp, and Pseudomonas spp. Conclusion: The resistant isolates indicate the presence of cefixime in the coastal waters of Manado. Keywords: Cefixime, resistance, antibiotic susceptibility testing, seawater, Manado City.
