Abstract

The use of renewable power sources, like wind power, has been increased recently due to climatic changes caused by fossil fuels and fast depletion of fossil fuels. This has lead to the tremendous increase in the interconnection of wind turbines to power system grid. This interconnection on a large number in to grid causes problems such as power quality, maintaining system voltage, reactive power compensation, control of grid frequency and aspects of power system grid stability. In this proposed scheme, a fuzzy logic based controller is employed for a STATCOM to improve the power quality. The proposed control scheme supplies the required reactive power to the system and thus relieves the source, leading to Unity Power Factor (UPF) at the source and also it injects currents to reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) to satisfy IEC standard. For extracting the reference currents, an instantaneous reactive power theory based control algorithm is employed. To determine the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy logic controller, a comparative analysis is also performed with a PI controller and the results have been presented.

Abstract

Solar photovoltaic generation system is a very promising type of renewable energy, particularly when it is implemented in the tropical country like Indonesia where it receives a huge amount of sunshine. Solar photovoltaic generation system can be utilised to supply power for different types of consumer, namely utility grids, industrials as well as household. This article discusses the effect solar radiation to the photovoltaic module with different slope angles namely; 300, 400 and 500 respectively. It was used a 100 Wp solar module in the research. It is not only the slope angle of module analysed in this article but also the weather condition such as: sunny or cloudy conditions. The performances of solar photovoltaic at temperature ranging from 280C to 500C are analysed significantly. The results showed that the above conditions affected the voltage generated by solar photovoltaic system. Finally, the results of this test will be compared with the simulation results of photovoltaic system modeling using Matlab/Simulink.

Abstract

This paper proposed new design of compact microstrip antenna using fractal sierpenski carpet method for Wireless Fidelity application at working frequency of 2400 MHz. The proposed antenna using FR4 Epoxy with (εr) of 4.3, substrate thickness (h) of 1.6 mm and loss tangent (tan δ) of 0.0265. Antenna is designed using AWR Microwave Office software. The sierpenski carpet method is used in order to reduce the dimensions of the microstrip antenna to become more compact. From the measurement results obtained reflection coefficient value -26.077 dB, VSWR 1.104 at working frequency of 2400 MHz frequency with a bandwidth of 127 MHz (2338 MHz – 2465 MHz). Beside that, by using fractal sierepenski carpet method, microstrip antenna dimension was reduced until 47.80% compared to conventional rectangular microstrip antenna.

Abstract

This paper explores the analytical study and simulation of fuzzy logic controller and PI controller, to control the dc output voltage of shunt active power filter for harmonic reduction and power quality improvement in case of nonlinear load. Here we have exercised an effort to design and evaluate a converter to compensate the harmonics for 1-phase AC to DC bridge rectifier which is working as the main converter in unregulated mode. The work depends on the scheme where an ancillary converter is linked in shunt with the main or primary converter whose turn on and turn off time is controlled by an appropriate controller (pi/fuzzy logic) for harmonic compensation of the primary converter which is working as nonlinear load. The Model of converter is proposed on MATLAB\SIMULINK Software and the results are analyzed satisfactorily.

Abstract

Human gait recognition is moving ahead by the need for automated person identification and verification at a distance in many applications. In this paper our system presented silhouette videos and neural networks based system for human identification. For each sequence of silhouette images, an automated Region of Interest (ROI) algorithm applied to reduce dimensionality, extract gait features has been attempted with 3level 2Dimension Discrete Wavelet Transform (3L-2D-DWT), edges detection and gait cycle were used to extract relevant feature. Back propagations neural networks used as pattern recognition. The MATLAB software graphics user interface is designed to display result and simplify the use of the system. The developed system has been evaluated using (TUM-IITKGP) which contains three different type of walking categories and the results demonstrate that the proposed system achieves 98.8%, 95.87% and 88% for normal walk, walking with backpack and walking with hand in pocket category respectively of correct recognition. We concluded that the different side of view movement increase reliability of the key extracted feature and improve the neural network performance which opens a scope for further development.
