Abstract

Failure which usually found in the designer in processing coconut wood is because they lack an understanding of the characteristics of the wood. Some characteristics of the wood is its density doubled from wood in general, great depreciation, and easily weathered by water. Departing from these characteristics, then it conducted construction and finishing experiment to optimize the coconut wood which identical to the wet area. The method which applied is experimental research method. For table top part, shells and resin materials will be the subject of experiment to determine whether they can be table top material. The data from these experiments will be used for reference in designing a kitchen set. From the experiments that have been done, then the most appropriate finishing for coconut wood which be used for a kitchen set is polyurethane. Construction for coconut wood which the most suitable on the use of a kitchen cabinet set is dowel construction. The system which is suitable for the application of coconut wood when used as a kitchen set’s cabinet is frame system (framework or brim). Coconut wood needs to be combined with other material with a lighter character and stabilized. Materials shells and resin easily scratched so it can’t be used as table top. Therefore, the table top material used for this kitchen set design is an conventional material. Once analyzed, stainless steel and solid surface material is recommended.

Abstract

The charm of Surabaya culinary has grown well and has become as highly appealing as the other cities. Restaurants with traditional and modern concept are now in high demand, one of them is Warung Apung Rahmawati. This restaurant has grown big and successful. However  Warung Apung Rahmawati isnt based on conceptualized branding. Therefore, the application of the concept of the interior of the WAR restaurant is very necessary to establish a brand image to the public. The concept taken is Punakawan. This concept was chosen to help reflect the main characteristic of Warung Apung Rahmawati restaurant. The character of Punakawan is applied visually into the elements of interior and decoration. The application of this new branding concept is not only meant to create a restaurant branding image towards the society, but also to create an interesting and comfortable atmosphere towards the consumers.

Abstract

With the increased economies of many working parents. As a result of normal family life becomes hampered, especially the attention to children - children that they need a day care. Facilities provided are a play area , study area , sleeping area , a library , cafeteria , office manager , laundry , and so on . Interior design of day care centers that use more colors - basic color such as red , blue , green , yellow are also the colors that are used on the game lego is a project concept . As for the formation of more designs using geometric formations , as well as helping the child to recognize shapes . Lego day care center is expected to help facilitate the development of children and parents who work.

Abstract

—”Tunjungan Plaza” is the largest and most popular shopping mall in Surabaya, consists of 4 main buildings (“Tunjungan Plaza” 1-4) and connected through circulation spaces. Circulation is an element that organizes and connects different part of the shopping mall, such as shops, anchor tenant and other mall facilities. Consideration of organizing circulation can be separately identified into functional and qualitative requirements. The functional requirements are primary building planning considerations that represent the basic and well established general rules of shopping mall planning, and the qualitative requirements are recommended secondary planning that tends towards the consideration of the use of the mall from the viewpoint of the customer and are recommended considerations that can make the difference between one mall and another. The aim of this research is to find out the functional circulation application in “Tunjungan Plaza”. The result is “Tunjungan Plaza” applies functional circulation requirements according to the parameters, even there are some applications that are not matching the parameters.

Abstract

This design project is a physical fitness center (Sport Centre) for the kids to play and explore methods together. The background of this idea is that children can get a complete and perfect  education, not only intellectually increase in intelligence but also can develop in the temporal field that can help children to be more confident and can have a healthy lifestyle since the early age. The theme for designing this place is “Garden" by applying the outdoor atmosphere into the room.

Nestlé’s Cereal World is a new facility in foodservice industry, which people can explore and obtain a new experience about cereal through 4 main facilities: attraction, discover, dining, and shopping. Nestlé’s Cereal World design will use Nestlé’s interior branding, which the tangible and intangible design will represent the Nestlé’s Cereal identity.

Abstract

Know of a tribe not only understand how the tribe to survive and adapt , but can not be separated from knowing local customs / values are used . Likewise with the Dayak Kenyah in East Kalimantan that have unique customs and practice . Not only from daily uniqueness , but also of their crafts in the form of carved ornaments . Symbols and ornaments is not only the customary ritual objects but also on the equipment and the traditional long house ( Lamin ) . Just like other tribes in Indonesia , the Dayak Kenyah ornaments also has a meaning and significance in each symbol , so it is interesting to study . Used to assess these semiotic theory proposed by Pierce , which is a study of this method to obtain the meaning of a sign or symbol , function , and relevance of signs to one another . The existence of symbols and ornaments is closely related to the ancestors animism dynamism Dayak Kenyah.

Abstract

Art has now become an aspect of entertainment at this moment and has been a lifestyle for the people of Indonesia. Most of the Indonesians are enjoying art as entertainments for their everyday lives. Music, dance, fine arts, drama are a few examples of arts. With more and more communities are enjoying such arts, Indonesia has really appreciates art very much. Therefore, there is an idea of creating Performing Arts School here in Surabaya. The Performing Arts Scool will then facilitate students with a place to stay within the school. With the system of dormitory, students will be able to live nearby and ease them to study. The design of the Performing Arts School is following the modern retro style, adjusting with the target segment and that is students between the ages of 18 – 25 years old. This age range is the range where students are more interested with something that is contrast and catching attention. Interiors that are using bright colors and geometric style allows students to stimulate their creativity.

Abstract

Modern human life in metropolitan cities of Surabaya Indonesia claimed to have high job mobility. Elderly man as one of the families who already do not have the ability to work will be home more often and be more neglected. The nursing home as a place of social services intended specifically for treating human age is not able to accommodate all the displaced seniors. This has resulted in the emergence of the idea of making an Elderly Day Care Center devoted to accomodate seniors with activities with attention to standard-satndar ekletik design and concept that is mixing between the modern and pop style to the homey ambience, fresh, and comfortable in order to support the activity of seniors in it.

Abstract

Lion dance were  the China’s origin sport and art who are now become the part of Indonesia’s culture. Usually such as another sports and arts lion dance has a long historical background, roles in society life even in political and also true purpose in entertaining as well as educating us. So to represent the things mentioned above writer create the The Design Work of Lion Dance Arena on Surabaya. Hopefully, through this design can be a forum for lion dance lovers in East Java to pour their love of lion dance while preserving the cultural heritage of China and Indonesia.
