Abstract

This article describes the development of readability measuring  tools for Indonesian Text by using Lexile Framework, Gunning Fog Index, and Cloze Test. Lexile Framework and Gunning Fog Index are used in English Text and are implemented to Indonesian Text. Lexile Framework measures the difficulty level of the text by using the text itself and other readings’ frequencies as reference parameters, while the Gunning Fog Index uses the text itself as parameter. Lexile  Framework is implemented to Indonesian by using a corpus of Indonesian, while the Gunning Fog Index is implemented to Indonesian by changing the rule in defining difficult words. The rule depends on the syllables of the words contained in the text with the addition of stemming process. Cloze Test is needed for comparing the measurement results. The result showed that the three methods of measurement have different values. Lexile logit requires some adjustments and a very large corpus, Gunning Fog Index needs improvement in stemming and cutting syllables, Cloze Test is needed on all readings and requires more respondents. Keywords: Taraf Sukar Bacaan, Lexile Framework, Gunning Fog Index, Cloze Test

Abstract

Abstract Biopore,a water conservation technique, are holes made on the earths surface that function as the entrance for rainwater into the soil. This research aims to determine the infiltration rate of biopore holes in various waste to further analyze the waste composition that affects the rate the most. Each hole infiltration rate is tested every week for 10 weeks. The result shows connection between the waste type and composition and the age of the waste. The waste used are dry leaves, meat or fish waste, and organic kitchen waste. Wet waste tends to increase the infiltration  rate (98.365%) greater than dry waste (58.06%). Meat or fish waste needs more time (four weeks) to reach maximum increase rate compared  to the other types of waste. In addition, the dominant composition of wet waste in the mixture has increased the infiltration rate. The maximum infiltration rate of biopore holes is reached between the second week and the fourth week. The surrounding environmment such as weather and soil charateristics can affect the acquired data. Keywords: biopore, infiltration rate, organic waste

Abstract

Abstract PT. Gemala Kempa Daya is a member of Astra Otoparts specialized in producing press and automotive assembly, particularly frame chassis. However, many defects are still found in the production lines. The purpose of this research is to improve the quality of the frame chassis assembly so that defective products produced can be reduced, and finally satisfy the customers. In this research, the method of Six Sigma improvement approach, particularly Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control (DMAIC), is employed to improve the quality of the products produced by PT. Gemala Kempa Daya. This study is started at the define phase project. In this step, a bussiness statement, SIPOC diagram and CTQ are made. Making the control map and calculating the sigma value are done in the measure step. The analyze phase describes the problem using Pareto diagrams, Fishbone, and FMEA. Then, improve phase proposes improvements to produce good quality. Finally, the last phase, control phase, controls the improvement. Through the observation conducted, there was a problem during the frame chassis assembly, that improvement and monitoring were required to achieve the target. The calculated sigma value before improvement was 3.622 sigma. After improvements made in March, the sigma value increased to 3.808. One month later, the sigma value increased to 4.012, and in May, the sigma value decreased slightly to 3.903 sigma. It can be concluded that the problem was solved by making the color standard for rivet position, rivet sizes, and making rivet size identity to increase the sigma value. Keywords: quality, six sigma, frame chassis, rivet

Abstract

uThe use of IS/IT (Information Systems/Information Technology) is no longer seen merely as technical aids, but it has evolved into a strategic tools, as business enabler. UKRIDA (Universitas Kristen Krida Wacana)’s computer laboratory recently made investments to renew their computer from PC (Personal Computer) into virtual desktop. Since the resources required for the initiatives is quite significant, justification (benefits identification) is needed. Rantis Generic IS/IT Business Value was used as a model for identification of benefits. The identification process found 7 (seven) categories of benefits and 10 (ten) sub-categories of benefits. Furthermore, the relationship among the identified sub-categories became the basis for discovering two potential threats to the benefit, namely the aspect of service reliability and user’s knowledge. Keywords: identification of benefits, IS/IT, desktop virtualization, Ranti’s Generic IS/IT, case study, university

Abstract

The need of electricity and wastewater treatment are two main aspects of modern society. Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) has the potential to solve these two problems simultaneously. Wastewater treatment with MFCs Technology at the same time can produce electrical energy. This research article is written to describe the potential of MFCs to treat wastewater from various sources, such as from household or industry, and  to produce electrical energy. The MFCs open system can be applied for the above purposes. This technology resembles the wastewater treatment in the nature. Our nature has the capacity to treat wastewater, such as ponds, lakes, and wetlands. These habitats have two phases: the sediment phase (lower) and aqueous phase (upper). The SMFCs resembles this natural process. In those phases, the anode is placed in the sediment phase, and cathode is placed in aqueous phase. If both electrodes are connected, then electrical energy is produced.   Keywords: alternative energy, MFCs, Microbial Fuel Cells, wastewater treatment, electricity production, SMFCs, Sediment Microbial Fuel Cells

Abstract

One way to find out the acoustic performance of a room is by measuring the impulse response. These measurements will obtain  an overview of interaction between the sound source and the surface in the room, which can be described in a time sequence patterns of sound energy reflection at any point in the room as well as the reduction of sound energy at any time or any sound reflections information. This research aims to determine the amount of power response and impulse response of sounds produced by speakers. Variable in this research is sounds produced through a microphone and that go out through the speaker. To determine the power response, pink noise is measured, while the impulse response is measured using impulse signals. SPL meter is used to measure the power response and impulse response. The research is literature study and field observation. The result shows the impulse response measurement is not easily interrupted by frequencies from other sound sources. Meanwhile, power response is easily distracted by the frequency from other sound sources. Keywords: impulse signal, impulse response, pink noise, power response, SPL meter
