Abstract

Three experiments were conducted to evalu."'Ite the enzyme activity from rumen liquor in some feedstuffs and its effect on performance of broiler chickens fed cassava based-diet. Those were: enzyme activity test and degradation level; total solubility; and feeding trial. Ninety day old chicks Ross broiler were fed three experimental' diets i.e.: ration containing gaplek as control (R1); ration containing rumen liquor treated gaplek (R2) and R1 + 1 % Starbidf9 (R3) for 4 weeks on feeding trial.Results showed that enzyme activity of rumen liquor was 243 IU/g. Enzyme from rumen liquor was capable of degrading onggok (89.90%); diet containi..'''lg gaplek (87.05%); gaplek (85.89%); coconut meal (83.97%); rice straw (7L.79%J; and rice bran (33.75%). Total solubility of these feedstuffs also increased after the enzyme treatment. The total solubility of the feedstuffs were: rice bran (33.75%); onggok (29.24%); diet containing gaplek (23.80%); gaplek (14.02%); coconut oil meal (1289%); and rice straw (11.57%) respectively. It was concluded that the enzyme from rumen Ii~uor can improve feed quality of gaplek, but the improvement can not enhance feed conversion ratio and performance index oJ broiler chickens fed gaplek based-diet.

Abstract

Microbial growth and various fertnentation processe5in th~ rumen require an adequate supply of minerals. An experiment was conducted to determine rumen fluid characteristics from 20 goats of local breed. ~ f They were randomly allocated into 4 treatments in a Randomized Block Design with 5 replication. Treatments were: A =forages (natural grasses, gIiricidia and leucaena) and concentrate (rice brand, com graL,,\ and coconut meal) ; B =ration A+Ca+P ; C =ration A+Ca+P+Mg and D = ration A+Ca+P+S. Ration between forages and concentrates is 60 : 40 with TDN 53.94% and CP 13.87%. The result showed that there were no effect of mineral!1Ca, P, Mg and S supplementation on the characteristics of the rumen fluid except for VFA even though it was still on the optimum condition for microbial growth. In conclusion, supplementation of Ca, P, and S was the best I among the treatments.

Abstract

This research was conducted to know the reproductive performances of cows which are offspring of Simmental bull and PO (peranakan OngoIe) crossing. Identification of reproductive perfonnances need to know the abnormality that may cause reproductive retardation. The research was held used survey method with simple random sampling on 113 cows at three. Artificial Insemination Post in Agam, West Sumatera i.e Baso, Biaro and Pakan Kamis. The result showed that reproductive performances of the cows was optimum except on age first service, first service after calving and calving intervaL In addition, the difference of reproductive performances between the first and the second offSpring (Gl and G2) not significant
