Abstract

The control strategies of avian influenza (AI) inpedaging operations primarily depend on tight biosecuritymeanwhile management practices on farm. This experiment was designed to study the relationship between the level ofbiosecurity and the incidence of AI in one rearing period ofpedaging farms at sector-3 with an opened house system. Thisstudy was done in contractpedaging company farms of PT. Duta Technovet which has a minimum of 1.000 chickens. Thisstudy was conducted in 18 houses (n) ofpedaging farms which were distributed in 3 different villages of 3 differentsubdistricts and districts in Yogyakarta Special Region. Sixpedaging houses were selected from Sendang Sari Village ofPajangan subdistrict of the district of Bantul; 6 pedaging houses were from Getas Village of Playen subdistrict of the district of Gunungkidul; and 6pedaging houses were from Pakem village of Pakem subdistrict of the district of Sleman. The judgment based on the score of the prepared questionnaire for thepedaging farmers. Isolation of AI virus employing cloacal swab was done in the Virology Laboratory of Balai Besar Veteriner (BBVet) Wates. Data were collected and analyzed with the Fisher's exact test (FET), using the software SPSS of Windows version 15.0. The results of this study indicate that the presence of stable air ventilation sufficient to give significant results on the incidence of AI disease inpedagings, with P <0.01.

Abstract

The development of livestock potential is expected to reduce of production and market unbalances. The nature ofRiau Province, requires effective and efficient planning in supporting the market of livestock commodities inter-regions.Knowing patterns of marketing of livestock commodities inter-regions able to increase added value of commodities. Thepurposes this research are: 1) to analyze the flow of livestock commodities marketing inter-region in Riau Province, 2) todetermine the direction of livestock commodities development based commodities marketing. This research was conducted inRiau Province with eleven districts and cities. This study used a model analysis of gravity and entropy models with doubleconstrains. The result showed the distance between regions determine interaction inter-region. The flow of cattle marketing isinfluenced by farmers productivity of origin region. Cattle’s production region is directed to Indragiri Hulu, Kampar, RokanHulu and Kuantan Singingi and marketing region to Siak, Bengkalis and Rokan Hilir. The flow of buffalo commoditiesmarketing is more determined by slaughtering in destination region. Buffalo’s production is directed to Kampar and KuantanSingingi and marketing to Pekanbaru, Siak, Dumai and Rokan Hilir. The main factors that determine the flow of broilermarketing is population in origin region and consumption of broiler in destination region. Development of Broiler’sproduction region is directed to Pekanbaru, Kampar, Pelalawan, dan Siak, and marketing region to Bengkalis, Dumai,Indragiri Hilir, and Rokan Hilir. The flow of cattle and buffalo commodities market moves from south to north and Broilermoves from region who were in middle to around it.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of extract of buah merah (Pandanus conoideus) on bloodglucose levels in rats (Rattus norvegicus) diabetic. The samples used were 20 male Wistar rats, aged 2 months and weighed160-180 grams were divided into four groups randomly each of five rats. I as a normal control group were given distilledwater, 1 ml / head / day / orally, group II as control of alloxan, alloxan injected dose of 140 mg / kg bw / ip on day 2, group IIIwere injected with alloxan 140 mg / kg bw / ip on day-to-two, was given a dose of buah merah extract 4 g / kg bw / day /orally day 3 until day 21, group IV injected with alloxan dose of 140 mg / kg bw / ip on days 2 and extract buah merah dose17 g / kg bw / day / orally day 3 until day 21. Blood glucose levels checked for day-to-0, 3, 6, 10, 14, and 22. Blood glucosedata were analyzed statistically by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) of One Way Anova, followed by the Tukey-test andLSD test. The results after 24 hours were given alloxan (day 3) an increase in blood glucose levels significantly (p <0.05) ingroup II, III, and IV compared with group I (control). After treatment with buah merah extract in group III and IV decreasedglucose levels (p <0.05) on day 6 until the last day of the study (day 22).From the research, buah merah extract dose 4 g / kgbw / day / orally and 17 g / kg bw / day / orally can decrease blood glucose levels in diabetic rats (p <0.05).

Abstract

The aim of this research was to improve the nutrient of sago waste through fermentation with various microbescombination, inoculum dosage and fermentation length. The experiment used complete randomized design (CRD) with3x3x3 factorial and twice repetition. The first factor was three kind of microbe (A): (1) Neurospora sp (2) Pennicillium sp,(3) Trichoderma harzianum. The second factor was inoculume dosage (B): (1) 3%, (2) 6%, and (3) 9%. The third factorwas fermentation length (C): (1) 4 day, (2) 7day and (3) 10 day. The parameters were dry matter, crude protein and crudefiber. The results of study showed that there were no significant (P>0.05) interaction between factor A, B and C, than factorA and B, factor A and C, factor B and C, to dry matter, crude protein and crude fiber of fermented sagos waste. But everyfactor A, B and C were significantly (P<0.01) affected to dry matter, crude protein and crude fiber of fermented sagos waste. The conclusion was sagos waste which was fermented by Pennicillium sp, inoculume dosage 9% andfermentation length 10 day showed a better content. This condition can be seen in dry matter 64.21%, crudeprotein 14.08%, and crude fiber 13.67%
