Abstract

This study examines how employee cynicism, characterized by negativity, skepticism, and distrust, can hinder productivity and organizational success. To understand this phenomenon in public organizations, we surveyed 163 public servants in East Java, Indonesia. We analyzed the data across different organizational sizes, performance levels, and strategic goals using an exploratory-based structural-equation model. Our findings reveal three key points. First, employees experience less cynicism when they perceive fairness, equality, and transparency in the workplace, highlighting the importance of organizational justice. Second, employee trust acts as a protective factor, further reducing cynicism. Finally, employee trust mediates the relationship between organizational justice and cynicism, suggesting that fostering trust strengthens the link between fair treatment and positive employee attitudes. These results emphasize the importance of staff departments and leadership promoting both organizational fairness and trust to create a healthier and more productive work environment.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the impact of leadership support and workplace friendship on employees' innovative behavior, as well as the mediating effect of cognitive dependency. This study utilizes 200 responses from employees at global ride-hailing firm, Grab. The partial-least-square structural-equation modelling (PLS-SEM) method is executed to analyze the hypotheses. The findings suggest the positive correlation between workplace friendship and innovative behavior, with cognitive dependency acts as a mediator between these two constructs. In particular, the role of cognitive reliance might be regarded as a significant determinant of employee behavior. This paper is a valuable resource for academics studying cognitive reliance, a topic that is often overlooked in past researches.

Abstract

Indonesia's public servants struggle to match the comparative performance of its top ASEAN peers, potentially due to an underdeveloped workforce. This study, drawing on insights from 214 public servants, delves deeper to identify key performance drivers. Surprisingly, this analysis, using a Structural Equation Model, reveals no significant link between organizational culture and employee commitment, motivation, or performance. Instead, the study pinpoints competency mismatch as the critical factor hindering effectiveness. Actionable insights emerge, highlighting the need for strategic skill development programs tailored to individual roles and responsibilities. Furthermore, the research underscores the current emphasis on behavioral factors, calling for a shift towards targeted interventions that modify employee behavior and drive performance improvement.

Abstract

This research comprehensively investigates the causes of NPF risk factors and proposes control strategies in Indonesian Islamic Banking. This model constructs a research model by Employing Generalized Least Squares, Path Analysis, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM). The data is pooled from 12 Indonesian Islamic banks from 2012 to 2020. These exhaustive analyses reveal an intricate building of unresolved debts. Some key findings in the financial ratios support the positive impact of good corporate governance (GCG) and Islamic corporate social responsibility (ICSR) on NPF. In contrast, asset utilization (AUR) negatively affects NPF. Furthermore, profitability and operation costs increase NPF. Some indirect paths are also realized. This research proposes a more holistic approach to forming NPFs in Islamic banking, critical for managerial decision-making in drafting their budget structures.

Abstract

The 'have it all' ideology has proven challenging; thus, many married women turn to direct selling. While offering easiness, recent studies highlight its potential exploitation, particularly among low-income individuals. This study addresses the scarcity of qualitative research on married women in Indonesia's beauty industry who engage in direct selling, examining how socioeconomic conditions impact their lives. Through snowball sampling and in-depth interviews among 16 married women direct sellers, the findings indicated that socioeconomic status enhances their ability to balance multiple roles. However, success is not assured, regardless of initial conditions. These findings are pivotal for policymakers and practitioners seeking to establish a fairer, more empowering environment for women.
